Title cpds are of formula (I): (where R1 is H and alkoxy and R2 is an acylamino or an imido gp). In an example 7-Beta-(D-5-(isobornyloxy carbonyl)amino-5-carboxy valenamido)-3-formyl-3-cephem-4-carboxylic acid is prepd from the N-protected 7-desacetoxy cephalosporin C by reaction with a CrO3/H2SO4 mixt.
