Abstract

L-lysine is produced by cultivating a mutant strain of Pseudomonas or Achromobacter, in a culture medium contg. a hydrocarbon as principal C source, until a substantial quantity of L-lysine accumulates in the medium, followed by recovery of the L-lysine, the mutant strain being resistant to >=1 amino-acid or its analogue, selected from 1-valine, alpha-aminobutyric acid, norvaline, alpha-amino-beta-hydroxynorvaline, alpha-amino-beta-chlorobutyric acid and 1-threonine. The prefd. microorganisms are mutants of Pseudomonas brevis ATCC 21940 and Achromobacter coagulans ATCC 21934.
