Abstract

(I) is stabilised against decompsn. to form corrosive acids, during storage and use, by adding a mixture of (a) a nitroalkane, (b) t-butanol, (c) an acetylenic alcohol and (d) a diepoxide. (I) is used e.g. for degreasing metals, cleaning textiles, and in aerosols. The rapid decompsn. of (I) in contact with active metals such as Al or Mg is prevented. (a) pref. has 1-4C, (d) is pref. 1,2,3,4-diepoxybutane and (c) is opt. substd. and pref. has 1-7C, most pref. being 2-methyl-3-butyne-2-ol. Pref. 1-10 wt. % stabilisers (total) are used based on (I).
