Abstract

Container, with laminated walls, with >=1 (load-bearing) layer of polystyrene or a styrene/acrylonitrile (SAN) copolymer and another, liquid barrier layer, has burst strength >=8 kg/cm2; falling impact strength >=0.6 m; volume change 10% when subjected to a temp. of 37.8 degrees C and a pressure of 6.25 kg/cm2 for 168 h; and CO2, O2 and H2O permeability 15, 1 and 1 vol.% respectively after 45 days. These containers are esp. suitable as bottles for carbonated soft drinks, beer etc. where gas pressure must be retained. No adhesive is needed between the layers and the physical props. meet the requirement for packaging drinks.
