Cpds. (I): (where R1 is H or acyl and R2 is a glycoside or R1 is a glycoside residue and R2 is H or acyl), are prepd. by reacting ajmaline or its 17- or 21-acyl deriv. with an O-acylglycosyl halide. Thus 21-acetyl ajmaline-17-yl heptaacetylbromolactone in the presence of Ag2O.
