Abstract

A glass contains by wt. 71-80% SiO2, 15-30% CaO, 1-4.5 % Al2O3. 0.5-5.0% Na2O, and 2.0-8.0% MgO, and opt. 0.2-1.0% Fe2O3 and S =. To obtain a coloured glass there may be be employed 0.03-3.0% of at most 3 of CaO, MnO2, Cr2O3, NiO, and FeC. The glass can disintegrate metastable in the domain of firing and shaping yielding a non-transparent frosted white glass, which may be transformed by further thermal treatment into a vitreous crystalline material, for use in buildings.
