Abstract

In process the rate of introduced of O2 is reduced by 1/3 to 2/3 when the level of O2 in the effluent gases reaches a predetermined max. safe level. Oxidation continues at the reduced rate until the level of O2 in the effluent gases again reaches the max. safe level. Then either the process is stopped or a second cut-back of 1/3 to 2/3 is made. The preferred max. safe level is 8%. Using this process a more complete oxidation of the aluminium cpd. is obtained and the percentage non-normal alcohols in the product is reduced.
