Abstract

The faulty zone of an ingot located near the central base area and comprising negative segregation and inclusions removed by placing the ingot base at a hot working temp. into contact with a resistant plate having an orifice passing through its centre which has a slight cone form and a cone shaped fron face which contacts the ingot. Upon applying compression to the plate, the faulty zone is extruded via the orifice and can be removed. Excess loose of material is prevented.
