Abstract
The operating parameters of the appts of the Parent Patent are defined and optimised. A jet of liquid is injected countercurrent to a stream of gas flowing fast enough to reverse the direction of liquid flow, so that it is thrown back to a decantation tank, the induced turbulence serving to promote gas/liquid contact, to remove solid, liquid, or gaseous, contaminants. Gas velocity must exceed 305 m/min, and pref. 457 m/min; injection power of e.g. water must exceed 10.9 h.p., and pref. 16.3 h.p., /m2 of gas duct cross section. The appts is esp. for removing Ilmenite dust and H2SO4 mist from sulphate process TiO2 production fumes.
