Abstract

Condensable substances are recovered from a stream of gas by (1) contacting the gas with a cold adsorbent bed, (2) regenerating the bed by heating to vapourise the adsorbed substances, and (3) cooling the regenerated bed before renewed use. The cooling cycle for the adsorbed bed includes (a) passing a cooling gas through the bed, (b) withdrawing and (c) cooling the discharged gas stream, (d) recycling the cooled, discharged gas stream into the cooling cycle at (a), and (e) maintaining the cooling cycle (a-d), preferably under counter-pressure from an outer gas source, e.g. low-content feed gas or stripped gas. This method eliminates losses of condensable products which otherwise occur particularly during the first part of the cooling stage.
