Abstract
Thermoplastic moulding compsn. are formed from a polyphenylene ether and (a) polystyrene resin and a rubber, (b) a polystyrene resin modified with a rubber, or (c) a mixture of (a) and (b), and have the elastomer phase as dispersed particles of maximum mean diameter of 2 mu. preferably between 0.5 mu and 2 mu. The polystyrene resin constitutes 20 to 80% by wt. preferably 40 to 60%, of the combined wt. of polyphenylene ether and polystyrene, excluding rubber. The elastomer phase constitutes 0.1 to 30%, preferably 1 to 15%, by wt. of the compn. The compns. are used for injection moulding, and the mouldings have good shock resistance, brilliance of colours and resistance to solvents.
