Abstract

These are used in the base of steel convertors and are made from two concentric tubes. An oxygen stream is blown through the central tube and a secondary gas, e.g. an endothermically dissociating hydrocarbon, is blown in an annular stream around the oxygen. The inner tube is made from a non-metallic refractory substance and this is preferably a refractory oxide or mixture of refractory oxides. Suitable oxides are those of zirconium, aluminium, magnesium, etc.

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

  "Improvements made to blowing nozzles - ¯
The present invention relates to steelworks nozzles, and in particular to industrially pure oxygen blast nozzles housed in the bottom of steelworks converters.

   Different types of blowing nozzles are known and in particular nozzles made up of two concentric metal tubes, between which an annular passage is formed for the blowing of a gas, for example an endothermic dissociating fluid such as a hydrocarbon, in the form of a veil which surrounds the jet of industrially pure oylene.

   It is known to manufacture the inner tube of such a nozzle, that is to say the tube through which the oxygen is infused, in an oxidation-resistant metal such as copper or steel. stainless.

   It results from other proposals of the applicant, not yet belonging to the state of the art, that a metal or a refractory metal alloy such as nickel can be used for said inner tube of the nozzle. cobalt or alloys of nickel or cobalt.

   In some cases, it may be desirable for the thermal conductivity of the inner tubes to be as low as possible.

   To meet this requirement, the applicant has imagined using inner tubes of nozzles made entirely of refractory material.

   The blowing nozzle being the subject of this? The invention, consisting of two concentric tubes, is essentially characterized in that the inner tube is made of a refractory material.

   In particular, it has been found to be advantageous. making said inner tube in a refractory oxide, such as alumina. or a mixture of refractory oxides.

   A particularly advantageous embodiment of the nozzle according to the invention consists in providing one end of said refractory tube with a thread, so that it can be screwed into a socket mounted at the end of the oxygen pipe. -This arrangement allows easy installation of the tube.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

   Another advantage of tubes of refractory material is that they exhibit complete resistance to oxidation.

   The refractory material constituting the inner tube of the nozzle should have a porosity as low as possible, and preferably zero, in order to avoid any mixing of the two blown gases before they leave the nozzle.
