<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
polyester).

EXEMPLE 2

BELGIAN PATENT Agglomerate of mineral matter and its preparation.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The invention relates to agglomerates of mineral materials.
It is known to manufacture coatings and plastic objects loaded with various products in order to increase their aesthetic value or resistance. These products contain a high proportion of plastic relative to the filler.
The present invention has for. The object is an agglomerate of mineral material consisting essentially of an inert powdered mineral material with the addition of a small quantity of plastic material serving as a binder for this inert mineral material, unlike the material which constitutes the aforementioned articles.
To make such a material according to the present invention, a major proportion of inert powder filler is mixed with an organic binder optionally supplemented with the ingredients necessary for its curing, the paste is given the desired shape and the binder is cured. The hardening which involves a polymerization or a polycondensation of the binder takes place within the mineral powder. In particular, sand and an organic binder are mixed in proportions such as the ratio between the amount of sand and the amount of organic binder in the final product exceeds 20 and is, for example, between 20 and 50.
In the present specification, the term "organic binder" denotes any monomer (for example methyl acrylate), any mixture of monomers (for example a methyl acrylate-styrene mixture), any mixture of molecules capable of reacting between they to form "polycondensates" (for example a mixture of phenol and formalin), any mixture of weakly condensed polycondensate with a monomer (for example a mixture of maleic "resin" and styrene to form a resin of
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
polyester). In the category of the materials mentioned above enter in particular siliccnes.
It is quite clear that the hardening of the binder can be carried out by polymerization or polycondensation techniques known per se. Thus, depending on the case, it will be appropriate to incorporate an accelerator, for example a cobalt salt, or else a producer of free radicals, into the reaction mixture, or to apply a supply of heat to the mixture. or to irradiate the latter with ultraviolet rays, this enumeration obviously not being limiting.
The shaping of the paste consisting of sand and organic binder can be carried out either by casting in a mold where it undergoes the hardening of the binder, or by lmai nage followed by hardening.
The ratio between sand and organic binder depends on the intended application. Thus, when said ratio approaches 50, the chipboard is better suited for interior applications, in particular as wall covering, because the material is then very porous. On the other hand, when the sand / binder ratio is. closer to 20, the material is suitable for outdoor use.
For ornamental purposes, it is possible to add either to the organic binder or to the paste of sand and organic binder dyes, pigments, other fillers such as pieces of stone, glass, metal, wood, etc.
Hereinafter, two examples of application of the invention are given purely by way of illustration and without limitation.
EXAMPLE 1200 g of methyl acrylate monomer and 50 g of styrene are mixed thoroughly at room temperature, then separated into two parts! To one of these parts is added 5 g of cobalt octoate as accelerator and to the other 1 g of parc- - xyde, of methyl ethyl ketone. These two parts are united, homo-

generated and dispersed in 10 kg of dry sand, colored blue beforehand. The mixture is triturated until a soft and homogeneous pay is obtained which is then poured into molds in the form of briquettes.
The polymerization of the mixture of monomers is also accelerated by bringing it to a temperature of 70 ° C.
EXAMPLE 2
We take 35 grams of phthalic anhydride which is mixed with 15 grams of glycerin and 1,000 grams of sand.
The mixture is heated to 240 C, after having introduced it into a mold or cculé on a plate. A "brick" is obtained which is practically infusible and insoluble in organic solvents.
It is of course true that the present invention is not limited to the details described above which may undergo various modifications remaining within the scope of the invention.
