EMI3.5

<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
Le mode opératoire mis au point pour obtenir ce résultat nécessite des additions, en proportions diverses, selon le type de scories ou de grains dont on dispose. C'est ainsi que s'est avérée intéressante l'addition de sulfate de sodium, de sulfate ;

The fine part of the "slag" is ground to the fineness of the cements and, according to the invention, is used as a binder to which the substances listed below are added.
The binder is mixed with the artificial grains and with water and thus a mixture is obtained which is given the desired shape by compression, casting or stretching.
The article of manufacture thus prepared is subjected to forced aging, under steam pressure and at a temperature of 160 to 200 ° C., for 6 to 12 hours, and a product is obtained having the basic characteristic of appearing compact, with Uniform appearance of a sintered glass material: due to the constancy of its composition and the chemical reaction.

homogeneous and isotropic and, consequently, presents in all its points the same mechanical strength, the same abrasion resistance, the same coefficient of linear expansion, the same resistance to attack by chemicals and, when polishes it, the same mirror-like surface.
This results from the fact that the binder and the grains have the same chemical composition and the same physical structure, with almost imperceptible variations which are undetectable with the usual analysis devices. All that has been said above contributes to giving the products according to the invention characteristics comparable and / or superior to those of marbles, granites and natural ornamental stones in general, with the advantage of eliminating drawbacks such as low resistance. to attack by chemicals and to atmospheric agents in general presented by these materials.
In addition, it has been found that, owing to their exceptional characteristics, the artificial active grains and the binder obtained according to the invention can be used separately, the former with the conventional binders used for articles made from by hand or for any other use, instead of natural grains, and the second to bind any type of grains or aggregates, inert substances or small natural pieces to obtain all types of manufactured articles suitable for the uses most more varied and among which, in particular, due to the particular hardness of the binder, for road surfaces.
It has also been found that one could obtain according to iavention, and with excellent results, materials

abrasives always constituted by artificial active grains belonging to the different particle size fractions, bound by binders of the aforementioned type.
Thus, certain abrasives are obtained which can be used for polishing and lustering marble and granite and other uses. In addition, the substances thus obtained according to the invention can comprise a reinforcing frame.
In practice, the implementation of the method according to the invention! is as follows: using unselected slag as raw materials, for cost reasons, their chemical composition is established and, from the results, the appropriate corrections are made to the pontion used as a binder, as shown in In the following examples, it is believed that when aging under vapor pressure, which in this case is absolutely necessary, takes place reactions which differ from those which take place when aging is normal.
A means has been verified and found to be a perfect way of obtaining the formation of higher yielding calcium hydrosilicates from the reaction between oxides, thus giving the binder of this new product a sintered glassy appearance, by over exceptional resistance.
The procedure developed to obtain this result requires additions, in various proportions, depending on the type of slag or grain available. This is how the addition of sodium sulphate, sulphate;
magnesium, sodium fluosilicate, boric acid, aci-, silicant, alkalis (sodium and potassium carbonates)! and alkali silicates of sodium or potassium or their mixtures, or the addition of silica gel dui, by virtue of its
