Qualification proposes: BREVET D'INVENTION
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

: Heated tube rotary kiln.
Qualifications proposed: PATENT OF INVENTION
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The present invention relates to a rotary furnace with heating tubes for the heat treatment of substances, in particular for calcining, drying and roasting these substances. The rotary tube furnaces according to the present invention are particularly suitable for calcining sodium bicarbonate for the production of soda.
The heating tube rotary kiln according to the present invention comprises a rotating drum inclined towards its discharge end, an annular distribution chamber mounted at the drum discharge end and divided by at least one partition. at least one compartment for the supply and one compartment for the extraction of the heating medium, the compartments of this chamber being connected by means of substantially radial pipes to a hollow shaft divided in the longitudinal direction, from ma - niere to form two channels for the supply and evacuation of the heating medium, as well as a series of heating tubes providing passage to the heating medium,
these heating tubes being connected to the feed compartments of the distribution chamber and extending practically over the entire length of the rotating drum in the longitudinal direction thereof.
The heating medium can be constituted by water vapor at a pressure of up to 42 atmospheres corresponding to a condensate temperature of about 250 ° C.
The steam condenses in the heating pipes and the condensate is returned through the pipes to the supply compartments and from there to the discharge compartments of the distribution chamber.
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the drum is heated by a liquid heating medium and the heating tubes start from a feed compartment and return to it.

to an eveeuation compartment. The heating medium can be constituted, for example, by a mixture of diphenyl and d3phnyi oxide with diphenyls: aehloros and polyphenyls or tetra-aryl silicates.
Unlike what happens with condensing water vapor, no automatic separation takes place between the heating medium entering and the exiting heating medium with these liquids. The guiding of the liquid heating medium requires a distribution ring or distribution ensuring a uniform supply and evacuation of the heating medium through all the heating tubes.

vapor from the tube, all discharge lines being connected at all ends to a collecting chamber which may be in communication with the atmosphere.
The exhaust pipe is pre-vented to remove air from the heating tubes, this air being able to re-enter the tubes in small quantities together with the water vapor and being able to accumulate there.
In known alkination drums, the evacuation of the tubes takes place at the end opposite to the inlet of water vapor. At this end, the heating blades pass through the plate forming the front outer cover of the drum, passing through jams allowing thermal expansions and various axial placements of the heating tubes. A small discharge tube is welded to the front of each steam tube, near its highest point e and all the discharge tubes are connected to a collector bag which can be communicating. tion with the atmosphere The known structure has several drawbacks.
The different thermal dilatans cause the appearance of stress cracks in the discharge tubes, even if these have compensation loops. The encrustations that form on. The heating tubes in the drum, during operation of the apparatus, cause jams in the jams, so that the cover plate is warped, during reheating or cooling of the drum. Movers are very expensive, and require constant maintenance. These incor .. @ients are eliminated thanks to the aforementioned discharge lines. as.
The exhaust duct may be movable or may pull supported or resiliently suspended in the heating tube, in order to allow different thermal expansions of the heating tube and the exhaust duct. The discharge line can also be supported outside the heating tube.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
The discharge line may be formed by dividing the water vapor tube longitudinally, the discharge line thus formed being inside or outside a circular cross section of the tube. The discharge line and the water drain tube preferably form a one-piece assembly.
According to a suitable embodiment of the invention, the annular distribution chamber is divided into an annular supply compartment and an annular discharge compartment by a cylindrically shaped partition. Two annular chambers are thus formed in the chamber. distribution chamber, these annular chambers being arranged concentrically and one behind the other in the radial direction.
One of the annular chambers serves as a feed chamber, from which the heating medium flows into the heating tubes. The other annular chamber is arranged to collect the heating medium coming from the tubes and to return it to the corresponding channel of the hollow shaft. The temperature of the heating medium in the supply compartment is at least 10 to 30 C higher than the temperature of the heating medium in the discharge compartment.
All the heating tubes distributed in the drum are at the same temperature; when using heating liquids, the tubes which return the liquid to the discharge compartment are alone at a temperature lower than that of the tubes containing the liquid which flows from the distribution chamber into the drum *
This temperature difference however decreases at the loading end of the drum.
The distribution chamber can also be divided into heating liquid supply and discharge compartments
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
respectively, using radial partitions. The number of compartments should be chosen so that turbulence occurs in the heating tubes. A large number of partitions is provided, to avoid large temperature differences along the periphery of the drum,
The mauffante tubes from a supply compartment preferably terminate in an adjacent discharge compartment.
In the preferred embodiment of the invention, an annular guide chamber returning the current to the singing tubes is provided at the loading end of the rota drum; In this case, it is not necessary to provide a U-shaped tube between the ends of two heating tubes. The circulation of the heating liquid takes place in the annular guide chamber to which the heating tubes terminating and to the supply / discharge compartments are connected. A division of the annular guide chamber is generally not necessary with an annularly divided distribution chamber.
The heating liquid enters the guide chamber from the inside or the outside and flows into this guide chamber from the outside or the inside respectively, after which it is returned by the tubes. return or recycling tubes in the outlet compartment of the distribution chamber. Radial partitions can also be provided in the guide chamber, to better guide the flow of heating liquid.
If the distribution chamber is provided with radial partitions, the annular guide chamber is also divided into return or recycling compartments by substantially radial partitions and the heating tubes leaving from a supply compartment of the chamber. distribution, as well by the heating tubes leading to a compartment of @@@@ acuation
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
adjacent to said feed compartment are connected by their opposite ends to the same return compartment of the annular guide chamber.
Furthermore, the heating tubes are provided with compensation devices designed to compensate for the thermal expansion of the tubes, The tubes in which the heating liquid flows in opposite directions are at different temperatures from each other, in particularly during the reheating period, while their temperature also differs from that of the wall of the drum, so that undesirable stresses would occur in the material of all the tubes, if one did not use any compensation devices.
Although communication with the atmosphere is not as important, when liquid heating media are used than when steam is used, means of evacuation or communication with the at - mosphere, such as a valve, may be provided on the heating tubes in the vicinity of the loading end of the pile or in the return compartments of the guiding chamber.
The invention is further described in the remainder of this specification, in which reference is made to the accompanying drawings, in which; - Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of the rotating drum with heating tubes according to the invention, provided with an annular distribution chamber, but without an annular guide chamber;

FIG. 6 is a cross section of a third embodiment of the rotary drum with heated tubes according to the invention, arranged to be heated and fitted with an evacuation or communication system. with the atmosphere, and, Figure 7 is a perspective view of the rotating drum with heating tubes according to the invention.
As shown in Figure 1, an annular distribution chamber 2 is mounted at the discharge end of rotary drum 1. Dea sets 3 of U-ton tubes extend from distribution chamber 2. over the entire length of the rotating drum 1. The distribution chamber 2 is divided into an annular compartment 5 and an internal annular compartment
6 by means of a cylindrical partition 4 oncentric to the wall of the drum 1. The liquid heating medium is supplied to the distribution chamber 2 by a hollow shaft 7 fixed to the rotating drum and rotating with the latter.
The central channel serving for the supply or the supply of the heating medium is in connection with the compar- three supply food 6 by / tubes 10 radially aligned and forming an angle of 120 with each other (figure 2). The number of tubes 10 is not critical; in principle, one tube is sufficient.
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
The annular chamber 8 of the hollow shaft 7 serving to evacuate the heating medium from the set of tubes is connected to the outer annular compartment 5 of the distribution chamber 2 by means of radial tubes 11 The end of the shaft hollow rotates in a stationary feed head 22 provided with connectors 23,24, through which the heating medium is respectively brought to the hollow marble and discharged therefrom. The wall of the hollow orifice 7 has openings 25 distributed over its periphery, in the region of the connector 24. The heating medium coming from the heating tubes returns through the openings 25 and their connector 24 to the heating device. (not shown).
The annular chamber 8 is closed or beyond the openings 25. The hollow shaft 7 has openings
26 in the peripheral region, rotating above the fitting
23. Through these openings 26, the heating medium coming from the heating device flows into the central channel 9 of the hollow shaft.
The heating medium flowing in the central channel
9 of the shaft 7 is brought into the inner annular compartment 6 by the radial tubes 10 and flows uniformly from this compartment, passing through the heating tubes 3, into the outer annular discharge compartment 5. The medium heater flows from the compartment 5, passing through the tubes 11 and the annular channel 8 of the hollow shaft, into the device which has it heating, which brings it to the desired temperature.
Figures,, 5 show an embodiment of the rotating drum with an annular guide chamber 12 at its loading end. The heating tubes 3 from the annular distribution chamber 2 extend in a straight line through the drum to the annular guide chamber 12.
