<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Apparatus for refrigerating corpses.
It is already known, in connection with oadavres who, while awaiting burial, are placed on a stretcher, in a funeral chapel of a cemetery, or in a similar room to delay the decomposition, which is accompanied by 'a strong odor, by placing these in artificially cooled rooms.
It is also known to use for this purpose cooling chests arranged to receive a coffin and equipped with the equipment required for refrigeration and called to be connected, using a plug socket, by example, to the normal electricity sector.
The present invention relates to a particularly favorable form of execution of an apparatus for the refrigeration of corpses, in particular in funeral chapels in cemeteries.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
this device consisting of a chest provided with thermal insulation and used to receive a coffin, as well as a refrigerating unit, mounted in this chest.
According to the invention, the device which is the subject thereof is provided with an air circulation system where the cooled air flows, from 1 evaporator has in a chamber separated by a partition, through orifices provided in the partition, preferably near the base, towards the enclosure of the chest intended to receive the coffin, to flow back towards the aforementioned chamber through orifices provided in the upper part of this partition.
The appended drawings represent some examples of embodiment of the invention. FIG. 1 represents an apparatus according to the invention, arranged to receive a coffin, drawn in dashed lines, 1 designates the chest made of a heat-insulating material, and having a bottom inclined slightly towards the end corresponding to the feet of the corpse. . The sideboard is lined with corrosion resistant material, in particular stainless steel sheet.
A partition 6, provided with orifices 12 near its base and orifices 11 at its upper part, limit, one end of the sideboard, a chamber in which is located 7.'evaporator (refrigerator) of a refrigeration system of which the other elements, in particular the refrigerant group 3, are placed below this chamber. Below the evaporator 2 is a tank 13, intended to collect the condensation water which forms. The water arrives, through a pipe 5. in a removable drip bowl 4. The end wall 9 of the chest can be removable or foldable, in order to allow the easy introduction and removal of a coffin. Figure 1 shows an arrangement where the sideboard is open above.
It is established - as it is indicated by arrows - an air circulation, the cooled air circulating in the cabinet practically does not mix with the ambient air, just as in the case of the known refrigerated display cases, employed in food stores.

FIG. 2 represents other possible arrangements making it possible to isolate better, that is to say, in a more complete manner, the air circulating in the cabinet.
16 designates a deflector intended to completely deflect the air which rises at the foot of the coffin. In addition, partitions 14 and 15 can be provided inside the cabinet, which improve the guiding of the circulating air.
On the other hand, the sideboard can be covered with panels 7,8 in a transparent material. These panels can be held in place, in an easily removable manner, by means of adhesion magnets 10 Finally, a fan 17 can be provided to ensure the circulation of the air,
FIG. 3 shows a somewhat modified embodiment of the object of the invention, the indexed words designating bodies corresponding to those of FIGS. 1 and 2.
