<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

Nozzle for ladles to regulate the flow of liquid metal.
The present invention relates to a nozzle for regulating the flow of the liquid metal, in particular steel, leaving the flow pockets.
An ordinary flow nozzle consists of a brick passing through the bottom of the pouring ladle and having a cylindrical discharge channel with a circular cross section. This channel is rounded upwards or widens into a rounded conical shape. On this widening .. is placed, from above, a rounded plug at its lower end to close the discharge channel.
Casting nozzle bodies of this type are also known.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
type, in which the discharge channel has an oval cross-section, this channel widening continuously towards the discharge end in the case of a circular or oval cross-section,
American Patent No. 1,747,530 proposes another form of realization of the evacuation channel,
according to which the channel having an initially circular cross-section suddenly widens into a square cross-section of larger area
All of these known embodiments of the discharge channel from the ladle nozzles cannot be applied for optimum flow control in the unit of time for the different sizes of the ingots to be burned. , as is proposed according to the invention. They are simply intended to influence the shape and structure of the casting stream.
In the direct casting of falling ingots, that is, when casting without an intermediate funnel or casting box, the amount of liquid metal (steel) flowing per unit time is directly proportional. @@@ onnel at the level of the contents of the ladle and at the surface of the minimum section of the discharge channel ,, For each dimension of ingot, it is necessary to maintain an optimum casting time, which means an average flow rate determined during this period. When pouring ingots of different sizes (combination of ingots), by using a nozzle having the same discharge section for the whole casting, it is possible to maintain determine, for the first ingot, the optimum casting time,
that is to say the predetermined average flow rate in the unit of time, but no longer for the other ingots. In this way, casting faults are inevitable.
In order to regulate the material flow according to the load height of the liquid metal in the bag @
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
casting and depending on its temperature, to ensure the increase in the discharge section, necessary in the case of a low load height, a nozzle has already been proposed comprising an discharge channel narrowing towards the. outlet end and, by virtue of this nozzle, during casting predetermined parts are separated from the outlet end by notches made in the latter.
For this interrupted separation, the pouring nozzle must protrude a considerable distance beyond the base of the pouring ladle.
On its projecting part, this casting nozzle is not only exposed to mechanical deterioration, but it also requires, during casting,. manual or mechanical manipulations to be carried out at a specific point in the casting process.
In addition, this nozzle cannot be used for blind casting, that is to say casting in the absence of air or under a proteotor gas, since the nozzle is located inside the closed compartment.
On the other hand, in order to regulate the flow rate of the liquid metal, in particular of the steel, in a unit of time the nozzle for pockets according to the invention comprises a discharge channel of a uniform cross section and widening in the direction of flow of the metal, this channel being subdivided into sections, while the wear resistance of the refractory material of the walls vis-à-vis the flowing metal increases by u n section to the other in the direction of flow. In this case, the enlargement of the canal can be continuous. However, it is advantageously carried out in sections and in steps, the cross section of the channel remaining the same at the level of the different sections.
In addition, for the application the refractory material of the walls, whose behavior is different
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
in each section, some or all of the latter are produced in the form of annular inserts in the brick of the pouring nozzle.
The accompanying drawing illustrates an exemplary embodiment of the casting nozzle according to the invention, the passage channel widening in sections and in steps, while the various sections are produced in the form of annular inserts.
The discharge channel of the pouring nozzle, 1, having a uniform cross section over all height, is subdivided into sections 2, 3 and 4, the discharge channel widening in steps of a section to the other.
@ The nozzle brick 1 forms the lower section 4 of the channel. The channel walls and the entire nozzle brick are made of a high wear resistant refractory material, for example magnesite. The sections 3 and 2 connected to the section 4 in the direction of the entrance to the channel are produced in the form of annular inserts which are housed in the recess 5 of the nozzle brick 1, the insert or the section 3 being made of a refractory material less resistant to wear than that of section 4, for example a material with a high alumina content,
while the insert or section 2 is in turn made of a refractory material less resistant to wear than that of the insert or section 3, for example chamotte.
Instead of comprising a channel with a circular section, the pouring nozzle according to the invention may also include a channel having another cross section e, for example an oval or triangular section, provided that in addition to the desired adjustment of the metal flow rate, shape and structure of the casting stream are also influenced. However, for the desired flow rate setting, it is important that the cross section chosen for the channel
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
remains the same over the entire height of the canal or rather in the different sections.
In order to cast a combination of ingots according to the contents of the casting ladle, the various inserts 3 and 2 are assembled according to their discharge section and their resistance to wear.
In this case, the order of casting is determined carefully, in order to obtain the optimum flow rate in the unit of time for each dimension of ingot. When casting the first ingot, the upper insert, that is, the one with the smallest discharge section and the lowest wear resistance, determines the flow rate in the unit of time. After the casting of the first ingot, the wear of this insert should have reached such a point that the discharge section of the next insert is active for the casting of the next ingot of another dimension.
An important advantage of the present invention lies in the fact that the last ingot is cast at the discharge section of the last section made of a material very resistant to wear, so that the casting or the casting. flow is controlled until the end of the casting.
Another important advantage of the present invention lies in the fact that, during the whole casting process, the stopper 6 remains continuously on the nozzle brick 1, made of a material very resistant to wear, thus ensuring a closure. safe from the pouring nozzle.
The casting nozzle is assembled according to the combination of ingots to be cast, taking into account the successive discharge sections, their height and the choice of the refractory material. The momentary wear of the added parts or rather of their refractory material as well as their height must be in a good report
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
determined. The passage from one active section to another is automatically erased by the wear of the attached parts.
The pouring nozzle makes it possible to pour, in a casting process, several ingots of the same size in the same optimum duration.
