 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

  NATIONAL CENTER for METALLURGICAL RESEARCH,
In the main patent, a method has been described for controlling the movements of the load in a shaft furnace, characterized in that all or part of the electromagnetic radiation emitted by the cells is recorded in a continuous or so-called continuous manner. different areas of the surface of the load, and in that all appropriate measures are taken to reduce or eliminate any area of said surface having a temperature

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 abnormally high radiation, the presence of such an area being manifested by an increase in the radiation emitted at this place.

   There are many ways of recording such radiations, whether they are radiations directly omitted by the load, or radiations emitted by the latter by reflection of incident radiations,
In certain cases it is interesting to keep the image of such recordings in order in particular to be able to control the effect of the various measures adopted, on the state of the surface of the load,
It is evident that in such cases it is photographic recording, either by single or repeated photograph, or by cinematography, which is most apt to provide such documents of a permanent character.

   It is also possible to use accelerated or slowed down shots without any particular difficulty,
In the cases where it is not necessary to obtain images, the indications of which must be preserved, and where one can be satisfied with an instantaneous and temporary knowledge of the phenomena which occur on the surface of the top load furnace, it is advantageous to use a method of observation through a television set,

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

This last method has the significant advantage of not requiring the presence of the observer at the top of the blast furnace.

   It should be noted that all types of observation or recording of electromagnetic radiations, more especially visible or infra-red radiations, may be suitable for the application of the method according to the invention.
