<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

"Tubular heat exchanger with internal collectors, heated by steam, in particular feed water heater.
The present invention relates to a steam heated tabular heat exchanger, and in particular to a feed water heater, in which one or more collectors for the feed water circulation tubes are arranged inside. of the heat exchanger steam tank.
The invention relates to means which ensure a

immediate accessibility to the collectors and the junction points of the tubes to them, with a view to maintenance checks and repairs, in particular to allow any leakage at the junction of one of the tubes to be observed very quickly.
For this and according to the invention, one end of the water collector protrudes outside the steam tank of the exchanger which makes it perfectly accessible, and at this end ?. collector comprises a removable closing device, this end of the collector being housed in an extension of the reservoir where it is supported, with the interposition of a sealing device, so as to be able to move axially
As a result of this arrangement and construction of the collector, in the cases referred to above, it suffices to remove the closure device to gain access to the interior of the collector.
Moreover, the occurrence of a fault, in particular the leak of the seal of the manifold cover, can be immediately recognized since the leak appears in the part of the manifold which is external to the tank. The assembly of the manifold which allows its longitudinal sliding with sealing in an extension of the tank allows free expansion of the manifold even for high operating temperatures and ensures the tightness of the tank even for very high operating pressures. steam.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the collector, in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the tank, has one end rigidly fixed to the wall of the latter and is supported in the opening through which its other end. - mite protrudes out of the reservoir as well as into a pipe which extends the latter, not rigidly but so as to be able to slide axially, and with radial play, the sealing device consisting of an annular corrugated wall , in a cable gland or in a baffle device located between the two

collector supports and interposed between the collector and the tubing extending the tank,
The invention will be described more fully in what follows in the form of two exemplary embodiments shown respectively in Figures 1 and 2 of the accompanying drawings which are axial sections of the end of the manifold.
In figure 1 we can see a portion of a shell 1 forming part of the cylindrical wall 2 of the steam tank of a tubular heat exchanger, feed water heater, at high pressure, and a manifold. cylindrical feed water, transverse to the shell of the tank and perpendicular to the longitudinal axis thereof. The manifold 2, the tube junctions of which have not been shown, protrudes at one end 3 from the casing of the tank 1 while its other end, not shown, is made integral in any way with the casing of the tank 1. tank. The end 3 of the manifold 2 has as a detachable closing device a cover 4 which is fixed by studs 5.
In the opening 6 of the wall of the tank 1 through which this end of the manifold passes, a tubing 7, forming a lady and sealed, surrounds the end of the manifold to which it is coaxial, leaving an annular gap 8 At the end of the pipe 7 which connects to the wall of the tank, a ring 9 is welded inside this pipe and surrounds the manifold 2 with a reduced clearance which allows the latter to expand radially and axial displacement. The ring 9 is cut at its periphery dl a number of distributed grooves, through which the steam from the tank 1 can enter the annular gap 8.
The outer end of the tubing 7, which is constricted, carries a ring 11 which encompasses the extreme end of the manifold 3 with a small gap 12, in a manner similar to the ring 9 * As a sealing member, it is provided in the annular chamber
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
8 a corrugated annular wall 13, axially flexible. This annular wall is welded in an etahe manner on one side to the ring 11 of the pipe 7 and on the other side to a ring 14 which is itself welded to the outer surface of the manifold 3. The gap 12 puts in constant communication. the space delimited by the wall of the collector 3 and by the corrugated annular wall 13 with the external atmosphere.
A drain pipe 15 makes it possible to draw off the water which condenses in the chamber 8. The projecting end of the ring 11 is surrounded by the rim 16 of a ring fixed on the cover 4.
If a leakage occurs in the baffle 17 formed by the cover against the end face of the manifold, the water which has leaked passes through the gap between the end of the ring 11 and the rim 16, and appears outside the tank by immediately reporting the incident. To determine the damaged point, it is sufficient to remove the cover 4 after removing the nuts from the studs 5.
With the heater in operation, if the water to be heated which passes through the collector 2 has a temperature considerably lower, for example by several hundred degrees, than the temperature of the high-pressure steam which passes through the tank 1, it may result from the difference in these temperatures large differences in expansion of the collector 2 with respect to the reservoir 1 and its tubing 7.
The relative axial displacement of the two parts can occur without hindrance due to the freedom of the end of the manifold 2 in the pipe 7 constituting the extension of the tank, and this while the interior of the tank 1 and its extension 7 remains perfectly isolated from the external atmosphere due to the existence of the flexible sealing wall 13, which makes it possible to provide the end 3 of the manifold 2 projecting out of the casing of the tank 1, with this advantage of immediate accessibility of the collector after

removing the cover 4.
The embodiment according to FIG. 2 shows the possibility of providing, as a sealing member between the reservoir or its extension 18 and the manifold 3, a stuffing box. In this case, the pipe 18 forming the extension of the reservoir has a short length and receives its end by welding a ring 19 with an internal flange 20 surrounding the manifold 3 with play.
An outer flange 21 attached to the ring 19 carries studs 22 which pass through an outer flange of a bezel 23 engaged in the ring 19 and also surrounding the manifold 3 with play. The stuffing material of the stuffing box 24 is compressed between the flange 20 and bezel 23, which rests on the outer surface of the manifold and seals the space inside the pipe 18 with respect to the external atmosphere The packing 24 of the stuffing box allows, without suffering damage, an axial expansion of the tubing determining a relative sliding with respect to the collector 3.
