DISPOSITIF POUR L'EQUILIBRAGE ELASTIQUE D'UNE
CHARGE
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

DEVICE FOR ELASTIC BALANCING OF A
CHARGE
The present invention relates to a device making it possible to exert on a rod sliding along its axis, a theoretically constant force tending to balance a load acting axially on this rod. This force can be adjusted to the desired value.
The device according to the invention is for example applicable as a support element for a pipe conveying a fluid at high temperature (pipes used in power stations, oil refineries and other installations). Figure 1
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
illustrates such an example of application. The pipe 1 connecting the devices 2 ot 3 occupied cold (20 C for example) position 1 shown in solid lines.
When hot (5000 0 for example) it expands and takes position 1 ', This pipe is suspended from a rigid support 4 fixing it to the building 5 * When, when hot, the pipe .. terie has moved upwards support 4 no longer supports it and it is then subjected to dangerous bending stresses *
The device that is the subject of the present invention, inserted at 6 on the tie rod 4, has the effect of making the connection between the pipe 1 and the building 5 elastic while exerting a constant load bearing force supporting the pipe in all positions.
An elastic support usually used in this case would include a spring interposed in the tie rod 4. If this spring is tensioned properly to support the weight of the piping in cold pool tien 1, this spring will not find hot relaxed in position. 1 ', and it will only partially support the piping,
The device which is the subject of the present invention is also applicable as a shearer for a cable connecting two fixed points and subjected to voltage variations resulting, for example, from variations in ambient temperature:
suspension of catenaries, device control cables etc ... Such an example of application is illustrated in figure 2. The cable stretched between two posts S has, at the time of assembly, j position 7 Under the effect of temperature variations it expands or contracts to take the 7 "or 7" position. His arrow is thus modified; its tension and the forces which it exerts on the posts 8 vary and can reach dangerous values in position 7 ".
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The device of the invention, interposed at 9 on the cable, has the effect of compensating for the expansion or contraction of the cable by keeping the tension and the deflection constant. Counterbalance devices are usually used in this case, but their installation sometimes presents serious difficulties.
The device according to the invention makes it possible to achieve the objectives indicated above by the fact that it generally comprises an axially movable rod subjected on the one hand to the action of the load to be balanced and to the action directed in the opposite direction of a spring or main spring system, and on the other hand to the action of a spring or secondary spring system which compensates for the variations in tension of the main spring due to the displacement of load.
The invention will be better understood by following the detailed description given below with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: - Figures 3 and 4 are schematic views illustrating the principle covered by the device according to invention.
- Figure 5 is a graph showing the different reactions i acting on the rod of the device according to its various positions, - Figures 6, 7 and 8 are sectional elevation views, in left profile (partial section) and from above in section of an exemplary embodiment of this device, - Figures 9, 10, 11 are similar views in sectional elevation, in left profile and from above in section of another exemplary embodiment of the device of the invention.
The device illustrated in the block diagrams of Figures 3 and 4 comprises a rod T connected to the load C hooked to point P.
This rod is subjected to the action of a main compression spring R1 making the connection between the bearing point PA and the
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
load C. The tension of this spring is adjusted so that its reaction Rp must equal the load C.
The rod T can follow the movements of the load C in its various high H, medium M or low D positions,
Assuming that the equilibrium between the tension Rp of the spring RI and the load C takes place in the position M of the load and that the displacement of the point P, due to a variation of the load C, occurs in the direction M to B (figure 3) the spring R: will undergo an additional compression due to the displacement "1" and corresponding to a complementary reaction Rm.
The total reaction Ra of the spring will be Rs- Rp + Rm, Rs being greater than C, If on the contrary it is assumed that the rod moves in the direction of M towards H by the same distance "1" (figure 4) following a movement of the load C hooked in P the spring R; will relax and its total reaction Ra will be Rs- Rp - Rm, The tension of the spring RI and therefore its reaction Rs on the rod is variable.
According to the invention, the rod T is further subjected to the compensating action of a secondary spring R2 chosen as a function of the characteristics of the main spring R1. This secondary spring acts along the axis xx 'along which its A1-A2 attachment points can slide.
These attachment points are also connected by a compass-shaped system whose connecting rods B are articulated at their ends on the one hand to the attachment points A1, A2 and on the other hand in D on the rod T,
When the load C is in the middle position M the three points A1, D and A2 and the connecting rods B are aligned along the axis so that the secondary spring R2 has no resulting effect on the rod T.
In the displacement of the rod from M to B assumed above the point of articulation D of the connecting rods B on the rod T is lowered so that the reactions Fo, due to the tension of the spring R2 (variable during the movement) give rise to RC1 reactions on the connecting rods
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
EMI5.1
and k of reaction ro2e resulting in Roo directed along the rod T and down. It can therefore be seen that the resultant Ro of the tension of the secondary spring R2 is directed in the opposite direction to the reaction of the main reinforcement R1 on the rod T.
On the contrary when the
EMI5.2
rod T tends to move upwards o that is to say towards H from
EMI5.3
my position M (figure 4) t the point of articulation D of the connecting rods. on the rod failure above the axis xx 'and the tension of the secondary spring R2 then results in a resultant directs along the rod T and towards
EMI5.4
the top.
In this case the resultant on the rod T of the spring R2 is diri ... eo therefore the same direction as the reaction of the spring R1, For the achievement of the objections of the invention the characteristics and the original tension of the secondary spring R2 August chosen such that the complementary reaction Rm and the resultant Ro
EMI5.5
are always theoretically equal and of the opposite in any position of H to De The resulting reaction Ra m Rp * Rm + Ro, will therefore always be di ,, ale the reaction Kp that is to say the value of C in medium poo1-. The graph of FIG. 5 thus illustrates the various reactions acting on the rod of the device according to its various positions.
EMI5.6
The device illustrated schematically in Figures 3 and 4 can be implemented in practically various ways.

These eliasièroe are horizontal, that is to say perpendicular to the direction of the rod 5. Between the two axea 10 are stretched two traction rennortn R2 placed one in front of the other behind the rod 5.

The bottom 13 located between the two washers comes out for the purpose of limiting the run towards 1c, bottom of the rod 5 and the tension of the spring RI by coming up against the top of the tube 416 This last position of the apparatus this shown in mixed lines in Figure 6.
The device is completed by a protective casing 14 and it comprises

the same organs as those described above and illustrated in figures 6,7, 8. However, this dornior model of higher power (3000 to 6000 kg with stroke of the rod 5 of 120 mm) differs from the previous one by a certain number of constructive character. First of all, the auxiliary tension springs R2 are replaced here by a compression spring R'2 housed in a side housing 20 and resting on two washers 21, 22 integral with one of the rod 23 l '. another of the sleeve 24 disposed along the axis xx 'perpendicular to the direction of the rod 5.
The rod 23 and the sleeve 24 carry at their free end rollers 25, 26 which tend to move symmetrically with respect to the vertical axis of the rod 5, by acting on a clrcular cam 27 fixed on the rod 5 and playing the same role as the connecting rods 9 of the previous apparatus for transmitting to said rod 5 the reactions of the auxiliary spring R'2. The apparatus is shown in FIG. 9 in the high position, the cam 27 being above the gaiety 25, 26, In the middle position the centers., Of the cam 27 and the rollers 25, 26 are aligned on the horizontal axis xx 'of rod 23.
In the low position, the cam 27 passes below the rollers 25,26 as shown in mixed treatment in figure 9 so that the action of the rea- eort R12 on the rod has changed from sana and s 'now exerts in the same way that the load acting on the rod 5.
It will also be noted that this latter apparatus comprises two main springs R1-R'1 arranged concentrically around the rod 5. Finally, the stop in the lower position is obtained by a tube 41 fixed to the bolt 13 of the rod 15. FIG. 10 shows in particular the travel and pussance scales provided at the level of the support washer 6.
Of course, the apparatuses described are only given by way of non-limiting example of the invention and it is easily possible to conceive of variant embodiments from these examples.
