Moteur à réaction composite pour sérodynes à grand écart de vitesses (Inventeur : K.A.W. Eichholtz)

Habituellement, pour assurer de cette façon l'équi- libre de 1'aérodyne autour de l'axe de tangage passant par une position donnée de son centre de gravité dans les limi- tes de la plage de déplacement de celui-ci, les moments de piqué provenant de la cellule et de son équipement, dont les masses sont principalement concentrées vers l'avant, doivent être contrebalancéspar des moments de cabrage dus à un déport dee moteurs vers l'arrière. Il en est ainsi en particulier pour les avions de chasse où des masses impor- tantes sont nécessairement placéesen position avancée dans la cellule : radar et autres équipements de bord, armement, cabine de pilotage, etc... ;

Composite jet engine for wide-speed serodynes (Inventor: K.A.W. Eichholtz)
The main patent describes a composite jet engine comprising at least two channels ending in separate nozzles and one of which contains a gas generator, the useful power of which is absorbed by a turbocharger producing compressed air. and the other - called the power channel - a low pressure compressor driven entirely or partially by the included air emanating from this compressed air generator and provided with a device allowing to vary, continuously, the flow rate and the ratio pressure sets all the flight conditions,
taking into account the admissible axial speed at the compressor inlet.
In one embodiment of such a composite engine, the low pressure compressor is part of a. turbo-blower housed in the power channel and whose

the combustion chamber is supplied with the compressed air coming from the channel containing the compressed air generator The air, delivered by the blower and possibly heated, mixes with the exhaust gases of the driving turbine. said blower, in a chamber formed in the power channel and comprising a reheating or post-combustion device making it possible to obtain additional thrust.
The contribution of the blower to the engine thrust is strong at takeoff and at low speeds and weak at supersonic speeds where the compression of the air takes place almost entirely in the inlet vein and the thrust is due in a wide ramjet effect measurement.
To ensure operation in subsonic and supersonic flight, the two channels are provided with two adjustable converging-diverging air inlets or an adjustable converging-diverging common air inlet and each channel terminates in a converging nozzle. individual adjustable diverging.
The object of the present invention is an aerodyne with a large speed difference, designed for vertical or short takeoffs and landings and provided with one or more composite engines in accordance with the main patent and arranged so as to provide the propulsion themselves. of the aerodyne as well as its lift, the lift being effected by means of at least one special nozzle oriented downwards and supplied by all or part of the flow of the power channel by taking or deflecting this flow at an intermediate point of said channel.
This special lift nozzle may for example be a closable nozzle or the end of a tilting section of this channel and containing the fan.
The special lift nozzle (s) are placed so that the lift thrust directed upwards (or the resultant of the lift thrusts),

Of course, for planes of a different type where the weight is distributed more towards the rear, the compressed air generator can be mounted in a position rather than forward,

In fact, the existence of separate channels containing the latter two devices and the absence of kinutic link between them practically eliminate any subjection as to their relative position. Besides, the power transfer

displacement of its center of gravity close to the range of displacement of its aerodynamic center in subsonic ot supersonic flight.
Usually, in order to ensure in this way the balance of the aerodyne about the pitch axis passing through a given position of its center of gravity within the limits of the range of displacement thereof, the moments nose-down from the airframe and its equipment, the masses of which are mainly concentrated forward, must be counterbalanced by pitch-up moments due to an offset of the engines rearward. This is particularly the case for fighter planes where large masses are necessarily placed in the forward position in the airframe: radar and other on-board equipment, armament, cockpit, etc ...;
in these cases, the center of gravity of the engines must be located behind the center of gravity of the aerodyne and this may result in a noticeable overhang of the engines with respect to the trailing edge of the wings. FIG. 1 of the accompanying drawings is a half-plan view of a known twin-engine supersonic aerodyne, showing very schematically a usual arrangement. We see in 1 the fuselage, - in 2 the delta wing, in 3 the air inlet duct of a reactor and in 4 the outlet of the gases expanded by a convergent-divergent nozzle 5 '. In the channel 6 thus delimited is housed the gas generator 7 of a standard single or double flow motor, provided for example with a heating device indicated schematically at 8.
The center of gravity of the airplane is shown in CA and the center of gravity of one of the engines in CM.
CM must have arrived at this for the reasons explained above, which imposes a retracted position of the engine and results in dehoridization of its nozzle 6

this subdivision into two separate channels of the composite actor * makes it possible to solve simply and rationally the problem of the judicious distribution of the centers CA, CM and S.
First of all; the absence of a gas generator in the power channel 18 offers full latitude to choose the location of the auxiliary lift nozzle 17 so that the axis S of the thrust that it generates passes in the immediate vicinity of the

On the other hand, in order for the center of gravity of the CM engine to be behind the center of gravity of the CA aerodyne, it suffices to mount the compressed air generator 14 in a sufficiently rearward position which presents no difficulty.
It should be noted that, because of acoustic phenomena, it may be useful to arrange the outlets of the nozzle 12 of the power channel and of the nozzle 16 of the generator.
