EMI1.1
PROCEDE ET APPAREIL DE MOULAGE PAR INGECTIOIir
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

<Desc/Clms Page number 10>
<Desc/Clms Page number 11>
<Desc/Clms Page number 12>
<Desc/Clms Page number 13>
<Desc/Clms Page number 14>
A cet endroit,
<Desc/Clms Page number 15>
<Desc/Clms Page number 16>
<Desc/Clms Page number 17>
<Desc/Clms Page number 18>
<Desc/Clms Page number 19>
<Desc/Clms Page number 20>
<Desc/Clms Page number 21>
<Desc/Clms Page number 22>
<Desc/Clms Page number 23>
<Desc/Clms Page number 24>
<Desc/Clms Page number 25>

ENGINEERING MOLDING PROCESS AND APPARATUS
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The present invention relates to means and a method by which a product can be injection molded, without forming a weight in the molded product, a burr at the entrance to the cavity or a cold ingot. in the channel or conduit going from the flyweight sleeve to the cavity.
The means and the method according to the invention consist in interposing a valve chamber between the aforementioned duct and the inlet of the cavity and in providing in the aforesaid chamber a valve piston, which is sensitive to the pressure of the plasticized material. , so as to open the valve and allow this material to be injected directly into the cavity, until the aforementioned pressure is released, after which the valve closes and cuts the plasticized material at the inlet of the chamber. cavity.
The valve chamber itself is subjected to the same pressures applied to the mold sections
It has already been proposed to place the valve chamber in the duct block, this chamber being heated by the heat transmitted to it by said block, the latter itself being heated by standard techniques. However, it has been found that in this case the invention is limited by the limitations imposed by duct heating systems in general.
So, for example, ordinarily excessive pressure must be applied to the plastic in the flyweight socket, while excessive heating must still be applied to the plastic through said socket and the Ion? of the duct block, in order to keep this material in a sufficiently plasticized state at the entrance to the wetting cavity.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Thus, the block in question is itself necessarily maintained at an excessive temperature and, due to the need to keep the plastic in heat, a substantial amount of heat is transmitted from the block to the section. exhibiting the mold cavity. In the case of a number of plastics, it thus becomes necessary to apply a cooling agent to the section having the mold cavity.
Likewise, when the rolling operation has been interrupted and the block is allowed to cool, considerable time is wasted in reheating the block to a sufficient extent for the plastic to melt in the valve chamber, in order to be able to resume molding. In addition, because of the heating system required by conventional techniques, the assembly of elements surrounding the valve chamber can be cumbersome and seriously limit the number and proximity of cavities that can be used in a multiple cavity system. . These limitations are very important, for example, when it is desired to mold a large number of very small articles in a multiple cavity apparatus.
Furthermore, due to the bulky heating systems of the current block, very significant limitations are imposed with regard to the angle at which the material can be injected into the cavity.
The present invention relates to an injection apparatus and methods for solving the above-mentioned problems.
The invention also relates to an injection molding apparatus without a flyweight or burr, this apparatus occupying a minimum space and being substantially free of the usual limitations, as regards the angle of injection into the mold, while it allows the use of a large number of cavities in a multiple cavity apparatus
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
and this to an extent substantially independent of the size of the cavities or of the entry angle.
A further object of the invention is an injection molding apparatus without flyweight or burr, in which the molding operation can be interrupted and resumed at will, without serious delays arising from the need for maintenance. heat the block in which the distribution duct (s) is located, to a sufficient extent to melt the plastic material in the valve chamber or without it being necessary to otherwise condition said chamber, for the restarting of the device.
The invention also relates to means, as well as a method of injection molding, in which the time required for the completion of a molding cycle is reduced to a very substantial extent.
A further object of the invention is an injection molding device and method, in which the expenditure of heat is reduced to a minimum and the risk of damaging the plastic material by application of an excessive amount of heat is substantially. eliminated.
Another object of the invention is an injection molding device and method, in which the injection pressures are reduced and substantial savings are made in terms of energy, fuel and coolant. .
The object of the invention is also an injection molding apparatus without flyweight or burr, in which the valve is easily cleaned, without the need to detach the mold.
A further object of the invention is a hot injection molding system in which the need to heat belts and associated clamp rings is eliminated.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
The invention further relates to a valve chamber in an injection molding system free of weight and burr, this chamber being usable with a current mold and being able to be easily and simply placed in the molding device. or withdrawn from it.
A further object of the invention is a hot duct system which does not cease using a bulky duct block.
The subject of the invention is also a hot duct system of simple construction, consisting of standard parts which can be transported or stored, used or replaced at will and which can constitute a self-contained assembly independent of the die block.
A further object of the invention is an injection molding device and method enabling the production speed to be substantially increased.
A further object of the invention is a device by which the valve can be heated, while being virtually surrounded by air, which minimizes heat transfer to the section containing the mold cavity (s).
The invention also aims to ensure the presence of plastic material in an optimum ffuid state at the end of the valve forming the entrance to the molding cavity.
Another subject of the invention is a pipe and valve assembly which can be easily and quickly purged and in which plastics having different viscosities and of different types can be used.
Another object of the invention is an injection molding device and method, in which heat is effectively applied to the plastic material in a minimum space.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
The invention also aims to minimize the time required to fill the conduits, even in the most complex conduit systems, for example in those used in apparatuses with multiple molding cavities.
A further object of the invention is a device and a method by which the effects of contraction and other undesirable effects of the molded product are reduced to a minimum.
A further object of the invention is a method and a device for injection molding, in which the curing or setting time is reduced, due to the fact that a less amount of heat is transmitted to the section containing the or the molding cavities, during the molding operation.
Finally, the intention is to provide a device and method by which the hot duct can be separated from the mold so that the practice of subjecting the elements in the hot duct area to molding pressures which frequently reach 100 tons or more is eliminated, allowing this pressure to be substituted by the simple pressure of a distributor nozzle, which is generally about 200 pounds.
To further illustrate the invention, the accompanying drawings have shown embodiments now considered to be preferred, because it has been found that these embodiments give satisfactory and safe results, but it is evident that the invention is not at all limited to these embodiments, various modifications being able to be made to them within the limits of the invention.

The invention is applicable to substantially any common type of injection molding machine which can be performed in any direction. The invention is hereinafter described, by way of illustration only, in its application to downward injection into horizontal conduits which open, downward, into mold cavities. Thus, for example, a nozzle 10 can be carried by the heating susyeme (not shown which can be fed using an automatic feeding mechanism (not shown), this nozzle being arranged to eject a planned material 11 , thanks to the action of an injection niston (not shown) subjected to substantial pressures.
A flyweight socket 12 may be mounted on a die block 13 which may, in turn, be carried by the frame or frame (not shown) of the injection molding machine. A mold 14 may be carried by the die block 13 and be substantially spaced therefrom, by suitable spacers 15, so as to provide air insulation between the die block 14 and the grinding wheel 14. A movable mold 16 is mounted on the machine in any suitable manner. fear cooperate with the mold 14 and for the establishment of a mold cavity 17 between these molds. Thus is formed is a mold structure which can have any desired shape. For illustrative purposes only, the mold 14 can be considered as a cavity section and the mold 16 as a core section.
As shown, the core section 16 includes a core appendage 16 'which removably extends into the mold cavity 17 of the cavity section 14.
A seat 18 for the nozzle 10 may be formed on the socket 12, which has a weight cavity 19 extending from the seat 18 to a conduit cavity 20, which may be formed in the die block 13.
<Desc / Clms Page number 10>
A chamber 21 is arranged between the cavity 20 and the molding cavity 17. The chamber 21 may be provided in any suitable casing or housing, such as, for example, the bush 22, which extends through the oloc-die 13 and into the mold 14, part 23 of the mold 14 serving. itself as an element defining the chamber 21. This part 23 preferably comprises a passage 24 surrounded substantially by a valve seat 25 which may take the shape of a hollow cone.
The passage 24 preferably opens directly into the molding cavity 17. The duct 20 and the chamber 21 can thus be considered as a passage connecting the weight cavity 19 to the molding cavity 17.
A suitable pressure application or pressure storage device is provided in conjunction with the chamber 21. Thus, a piston 26 can slide within the sleeve 22 and preferably extend out of it. , as shown at 27. A seat 28 for a spring, which may take the form of a collar surrounding the outer protrusion 27 diston 26 may be an integral part thereof.
A retainer 29 may be provided for the spring, this device being mounted on the die block 13 or otherwise carried by the machine and may consist of a recess 30 arranged to retain one end of a spring, such as the compression spring 31, the other end of which can extend around the projecting part 27 of the piston, bearing against the seat 28.
At the lower end of the piston 26 is provided a part 32 forming a seat. Below this part 32 extends a valve element 33, which can be otherwise controlled by the piston 26 or which can be integrally therewith, this valve element 33 having, at bottom
<Desc / Clms Page number 11>
lower end, a portion 34 arranged to be applied in its extreme lower position, against the seat 25 and to close the passage 24, so that the duct is closed in the vicinity of its confluence with the cavity 17, the outer end of the part 34 of the valve element being substantially level with the wall of the cavity on the side thereof facing the mold 14.
The cavity 20 opens into the chamber 21 via an inlet oassage 37 disposed substantially between the seat 32 and the seat 25, when the piston 26 is in its extreme lower position. In the conventional die block are provided channels 35 intended to contain suitable heating means (not shown) in the immediate vicinity of the cavity 20 and of the chamber 21. Channels 36 may be formed in the molds 14 and 16 to deliver. switching to inappropriate cooling means or fluids (not shown) to cool and aid in hardening of the plastic in the mold cavity 17.
In use, chamber 21 is normally closed with respect to mold cavity 17, with spring 31 urging piston 26 downward, so that valve member 33 extending downward from said piston either in contact with the seat 25, so as to close the passage 24. The plastic material is brought into the heating system (not shown) and is ejected therefrom through the nozzle 10, by the injection piston (not shown) ). The material thus plasticized 11 can thus pass into the weight cavity 19, into the distribution cavity / 20 and into the chamber 21.
During the flow of the plasticized material 11 the pressure to which it is subjected is substantially at a minimum, but when the chamber 21 is filled the pressure is exerted in all directions and builds up.
<Desc / Clms Page number 12>
against the seat 32, as the injection piston (not shown) continues its downward thrust. Finally, the pressure acting on the seat 32 has increased to such an extent that it is able to overcome the inertia of the spring 31 and thus allow the piston 26 to rise, against the action of this spring. In doing so, the oiston 26 carries with it the valve element 33 and the part 34 thereof, so that this part 34 moves away from the seat 25 and opens the passage 24.
Thus, the pressure acting on the seat 32 does not undergo any appreciable reduction, due to the fact that the pressure supplied as the injection piston continues to appear. Further, in a preferred embodiment, the cross section of breakage 24 is very substantially smaller than the cross section of seat 32. The valve member 33 is therefore retained in the retracted position and the plasticized material 11. is thus allowed to be discharged into the molding cavity 17.
This evacuation takes place very suddenly, as a result of the increase in pressure to a noticeable extent in the chamber 21, this pressure being formed by the accumulation of the flow pressure, of the pressure necessary to overcome the pressure. inertia of the spring 31 and of the pressure exerted by the downward thrust, which continues, of the injection piston (not shown). Thus, the plasticized material 11 quickly flows directly from the chamber 21 into the molding cavity 17, where it can cool.
Depending on the operating cycle of the injection / piston (not shown), this piston is withdrawn very shortly after the end of filling of the mold cavity 17.
When this withdrawal takes place, the pressure directed downward is removed from the cavity 19, so that the pressure
<Desc / Clms Page number 13>
acting in the cavity 20 and in the chamber 21 is released This allows the spring 31 to force the piston 26 downwards, until the part 34 of this piston bears against the seat 25, which has the effect of close the passage 24. Thus, the part 34 of the piston cuts the plastic material which may be between the material 38 occupying the molding cavity 17 and the plasticized material 11 located in the chamber 21. Since this cutting is carried out directly at the entrance to the actual molding cavity, there is no weight, while no weight is allowed to form on the molded part.
The plastic 38 in the mold cavity 17 can then be allowed to harden and is then removed from the gap between the molds 14 and 16, without the need to move the molds a distance apart. substantial, to remove a flyweight from the plastic molding 38.
Due to the fact that the passage 24 is closed, the plasticized material in the heated chamber 21 cannot undergo any hardening, no plug or any burr being able to form, so as to plug or clog the passage 24. In fact , this passage 24 is kept clean, due to the fact that the valve element, which is not made of plastic material, is arranged in this passage, when the latter is closed, and is removed mechanically therefrom, when the latter is closed. plasticized material must flow through said passage. Thus, no plugging can take place.
When the molds 14 and 16 are closed again, the operating cycle can resume, essentially in the manner described above.
Figures 8 to 10 illustrate another development of the arrangement described above, which makes it possible to obtain
<Desc / Clms Page number 14>
a number of remarkable results. There is provided a channel and a valve device designated generally by the reference numeral 40. The assembly 40 comprises a flyweight sleeve 41 and a valve 42 connected to this sleeve 41 by a duct device 43 which, in a preferred embodiment, may be of very short length. As shown in Figure 8, the device 43 may be constituted by a block 44 in which is formed a conduit 45 extending between the valve 42 and the bushing or sleeve 41.
Appropriate spacers, such as spacer pins 46, may be mounted so as to protrude from block 44 so as to separate the latter from the cavity section 14 of the mold.
The sleeve 41 may be constituted by a column 47 having a base part 48 agen-cée to fit into the block 44, in a suitable orifice 49 formed in this block 44 and extending from the conduit 45 to an outer face 50 of the block 44. The column 47 can have a collar 51 by which it bears against the outer face 50 of the block 44. If desired, another collar 5- can be provided at the upper part of the column 47. A seat 53 for a nozzle is provided at the upper part of the column 47 and a weight cavity 54 extends from the seat 53 to the lower part of the column 47. At this point,
the cavity 54 / meets the cavity 45 made in the block 44.
The valve device 42 may include a valve socket 55 having a base portion 56 and a gripping portion 57. The base portion 56 may be arranged to fit into a suitable port 58 in the block 44 and between. the outer face 50 and the opposite face 59 thereof. A passage 60 extends
<Desc / Clms Page number 15>
longitudinally in the base part 56 and in the gripping part 57.
This part 57 is intended to extend beyond] the lower face 59 of the block 44 and to be centered with respect to the inlet orifice of the mold cavity. Thus the gripping portion 57 of the sleeve 55 can be inserted into a suitable recess 61 formed in the molding section 14. The recess 61 may have a cylindrical or conical side wall 62 (not shown), this wall extending extending from the top face 63 of the molding section 14 to a bottom wall 64 formed in the molding section 14, preferably a short distance from a wall 65 of the cavity 66.
When wall 62 is conical in shape (not shown), the base of the cone should extend along the top face 63 of section 14, while the top of the cone should lie substantially beyond the wall. lower 64 of the recess 61. An inlet opening 67, which preferably has a conical shape, extends between the lower wall 64 of the recess 61 and the wall 65 of the cavity 66, this orifice having the same longitudinal axis as the passage 60 of the valve device 42.
Part 57 of sleeve 55 may have a flange 69 intended to bear against the lower face 59 of block 44, as well as a seat 70 which is preferably disposed at the lower end of part 57 and entirely surrounds passage 60 at this end.
If desired, a flange 71 may be provided all around the part 57 of the sleeve 55 above said seat 70, this flange 71 having spacer fins 72 which extend radially to the edges. guide 73 extending along an arc 74 corresponding substantially
<Desc / Clms Page number 16>
} an arc of the conical or cylindrical wall 62, preferably in the part thereof which is close to the bottom wall 44 of the recess 61, which ensures precise centering of the part 57 of the sleeve 55 around inlet port 67.
A suitable electric heater, such as, for example, resistor 75, can be arranged around part 57 of socket 55 and can be isolated therefrom by suitable means, for example by a ceramic part 76, the heating device. heater 75 preferably extending substantially from the vicinity of the rim 69 to the vicinity of the rim 71. Suitable electrical conductors 77 extend from the heater 75, in the portion thereof adjacent to the rim 69, and along the underside 59 of block 44, to a suitable source (not shown) of electric current.
In passage 60 extends longitudinally a valve stem 78, comprising a piston portion 79 which extends between a seat 80 disposed above the conduit 45 and an outer projection 81 extending above the upper face 50 of the valve. block 44. The valve stem 78 also includes a portion of cross section smaller than that of the seat 80. Thus, it may include a portion 82 of reduced diameter which extends beyond the seat 80, the stem 78 terminating in a portion 83 which is designed to extend beyond the seat portion 70, when said rod 78 is in its extreme lower position.
Between the portion 83 and the portion 82 of reduced diameter the valve stem 78 may have a suitable spacer portion 84. In a preferred embodiment, this portion 84 comprises guide edges 85 provided at a distance from the side. 'longitudinal axis of the rod 78
<Desc / Clms Page number 17>
this distance substantially corresponding to the radius of passage 60, which ensures correct positioning of part 83 with respect to the longitudinal axis of passage 60.
Substantially planar walls 86 may extend between adjacent guide edges 85. These walls 86, as well as guide edges 85, preferably extend from a plaster located immediately above part 83, substantially all of it. along portion 57 of socket 55 when valve stem 78 is in its extreme lower position. Thus, the passage 60 has a Dartie 87 serving as a support or support for the part 79 forming a piston, just as a chamber 88 is formed, this chamber comprising an upper part 89 receiving the plastic material and a lower passage 90 formed segments 91 defined by the walls 86 of the rod and by the sylindrical arcs 92 of the wall of the passage 60 subtended by said walls 86.
In a preferred embodiment, a cap 93 is mounted on the outer protrusion 81 of the valve stem 78, this cap having a flange 94 arranged to receive and bear against a suitable compression spring 31, which may be. mounted on the die block 68, so as to urge the cap 93 and the valve stem 78 carried by this cap, downwards, in the direction of the conical orifice 67.
The part 83 preferably has the same conical section as that of the conical orifice 67 and it should be truncated at its lower end, so as to form a flat surface 95, which is level with the taroi 65 of the cavity. into which the orifice 67 exits.
In one embodiment of the invention, a selected portion of the flyweight conduit and of the device
<Desc / Clms Page number 18>
valve, such as for example the socket 41, can also be heated in the same way as the device 57. Thus, the socket 41 can be surrounded, on its part 47, by a suitable electric heating device, such as the resistor 96 suitably isolated from the metal part of the sleeve 41 ', by suitable means, for example using the ceramic part 97.
Figures 12 to 15 inclusive illustrate a method of forming an electric heater around a portion of the flyweight conduit and valve device in accordance with the present invention. Obviously, although for clarity of illustration the illustrated niece is socket 41, the same principles apply to part 57 as it appears in Figures 7 and 8 or to any another selected part of the assembly formed by the flyweight conduit and the valve device.
Thus, the part of the sleeve 41, which must be located immediately near the electrical resistance 96, can first be covered with a layer 98 of ceramic material 97. In a referred embodiment, this coating is carried out by painting or covering the part 47 and the adjacent surfaces of the flanges 51 and 52 with a suitable porcelain cement or similar composition, which can then be fired, until the ceramic or other material composition has dried and hardened. A suitable anchoring device, such as the hook 99, may be attached to the column portion 47, so as to extend outwardly therefrom.
The part directed towards the outside of the anchoring device 99 is preferably in electrically non-conductive connection with the metal part of the sleeve 41.
<Desc / Clms Page number 19>
A suitable electrical wire, such as the resistance wire
96 sold commercially under the trademark "Nichrome", can be folded over on itself, so as to form a curvature
100, by which it is hooked to the anchoring element
99, which not only serves to secure the part 100 of the wire to the column part 47, but also serves to separate the strands 101 and 102 of the lined wire. The doubled wire 96 can be wound in a spiral around the column 47, ensuring that the strands 101
102 are spaced apart from one another, the adjacent turns being equally spaced from one another. The helix 105 is thus obtained.
The free ends of the strands 101 and 102 can then be fixed, by any suitable means, for example by solder 103 to suitable electrical conduits 104 terminating in a source (not shown) of electrical energy. An additional quantity of ceramic material, in the form of a porcelain cement or similar composition, can then be applied so as to fill the interstices or gaps between the strands and the turns of the helix 105, as well as between the ends of this helix 105 and the adjacent flanges
51 and 52, as well as to cover the outside of the propeller, until the latter is completely embedded in the ceramic material 97, as shown in figure 15. The assembly can then be be subjected to cooking.
FIG. 16 illustrates a block 106 comprising several valve devices 42 fed by pipes (not shown) coming from a cavity 54, in accordance with the invention. The seat portions of the valve devices 42 illustrated in this figure form a variant of the invention and take the form of a throne cone 70 'arranged to fit into a mold inlet recess.
<Desc / Clms Page number 20>
similar to the recess 61 but of conical section or to be applied against a ring (not shown) provided in an inlet recess of the mold.
FIG. 17 further illustrates a device according to the invention, in which the flyweight socket is replaced by a head 107 comprising a seat 53 for a nozzle, a flyweight cavity 54 and a collecting duct 108. A suitable pipe. 109 capable of withstanding high temperature and high pressure, this state pipe, for example, made of hardened steel or other suitable material, is fixed at one end to the head 107 by suitable means, for example by screwing , so that each pipe 109 matches a collecting duct 108.
The opposite end of each pipe 109 is connected to a valve device 42 ', in which the socket 55 is replaced by a base portion 110 having an orifice 111 arranged to receive the outer end 112 of the pipe 109, of so as to maintain the pipe 109 in a fixed position, while ensuring free communication between the interior of the pipe 109 and the passage 60. For the rest, the valve 42 ′ operates in the same manner as the valve 42.
Figures 18 and 19 show multiple valve devices for use with multiple mold cavities, for example with molds 66a, 66b, 66c and 66d. In the device illustrated in Figure 18, a head 107 is connected to a series of valve devices 42 'by pipes 109. In the device illustrated in Figure 19, a head 107 is connected to valve devices. valves 42 'by pipes 109 attached directly to head 107 and by side pipes 112 extending from pipe 109 to valve devices 42'.
According to the invention, the metal wire 75 forming a resistance, which is wound around the part 57
<Desc / Clms Page number 21>
of socket 55 is heated to a controlled temperature by suitable means, such as a rheostat, thermostatically controlled device, or the like (not shown). the part 57 of the sleeve 55 is thus heated to an optimum temperature, for the plastic material entering the cavity 66. This plastic material is itself preheated until it is fluid, when it is introduced into the cavity 54. .
As it then flows through conduit 55 and valve 42, instead of being cooled more and more as the distance from seat 53 of the nozzle increases, this material heats up due to the pressure. heat imparted to valve 42 by electrical resistor 75. Furthermore, the heat common to part 57 of sleeve 55 and to the plastic material contained therein by resistor 75 is transmitted by conduction through the material. plastic and the valve device 42, the conduit 45 and the cavity 54 surrounding it, to return to the seat 53 of the inlet nozzle.
Thus, the plastic material being in the assembly formed by the distribution duct and the valve
40 is maintained in a fluid state, without degradation or alteration of this plastics material, as long as the nozzle 10 is pressed against the seat 53 and the heater (not shown) of the machine is in use. At times when the heater of the machine is not in use, or when the nozzle does not bear against the seat 53, the wire 75 can supply the plastic material in the device 40 with a sufficient quantity. of heat to keep this plastic fluid.
Or, in cases where a heating element, such as wire 96, is used around socket 41, this heating element
<Desc / Clms Page number 22>
heater 96 effectively maintains the plastic material at the desired heat in said socket, this element cooperating with the heating element 75 to keep the plastic material hot in the device 40. In this way, each element requires a lesser amount of electrical power and can be at a lower temperature.
Likewise, at times when the operation of the machine has been interrupted and when it is desired to operate this machine again, by supplying the heating elements surrounding both the distribution sleeve and part 57 of the sleeve 55, it is necessary to possible to reduce to less than a minute, the time required to plasticize the plastic material was in the distribution pipe and the valve, so that the machine can resume operation. after a much shorter period of time than that required with conventional devices.
Because of the optimum flow state of the plastic in the device 40, it is no longer necessary to apply excessive pressures to the plastic material, in order to drive out a plastic material which cools down in the conduits and in the chamber. mold cavity. Reducing the temperature and pressure in the inlet nozzle not only saves money, but also improves the condition of the plastic.
In addition, since, thanks to the present invention, it is no longer necessary to use heating ducts or ducts in the vicinity of the distribution duct, the latter can be kept relatively short, so that the loss of heat due to the distance to seat 53 ie the distribution nozzle can be reduced to a minimum.
However, even when a long distribution duct is used, for example when this duct is used as a manifold from which supply pipes
<Desc / Clms Page number 23>
branch 112 lead to individual valve devices 42 ', no detrimental cooling occurs, as each valve device 42' heats the plastic which enters it, as well as the branch pipe to which this device is attached, this heat being returned by conduction to the distribution pipe 109.
Thus, even in a system with multiple molding cavities, the plasticized material! maintained at an optimum temperature and under optimum flow conditions, regardless of its position in the distributor pipe and the valve device, while, because the plastic material is kept in a fluid state and the pressure in a confined fluid is the same throughout the system, there is no loss of pressure even in the most distant valve device 42 '.
Furthermore, by virtue of the present invention, it is possible to eliminate the distribution duct block, as well as all the drawbacks inherent therein in terms of weight, material, work 1 machining and handling, etc., and replace this block by a head, a tube and a valve device which are easily assembled and are made of common materials easy to transport or keep in stock, these devices being assembled or disassembled as needed of the switchgear. Thus, the formation of the distribution duct device can be carried out using common parts and relatively unskilled labor, while the resulting device is far superior to the conventional device.
Furthermore, because of the fact that it is no longer necessary to provide separate heating devices for the distribution duct and because of the reduction in the mass of the distribution device,
<Desc / Clms Page number 24>
as well as because of the decrease in the conductive contact between the distribution duct, the valve device and the mold cavity, a substantial decrease in the cooling medium required for the mold is ensured.
Thus, it has been observed in practice that the ratio of the quantity of the cooling agent necessary for a mold of standard type relative to that necessary for a mold according to the invention is approximately 10: 1.
Furthermore, by virtue of the present invention, the amount of electricity required to heat the hot distribution duct system is reduced from about 2000 watts in a conventional system to about 100 to 200 watts in the system according to the invention.
Because of the substantial reduction in heat difference, the plastic and the machine have been found to be easier to control.
Furthermore, after the initial heating of the plastic material, it has been found in practice that the invention allows the automatic production cycle to be started after only about 30 seconds, whereas it takes 6 to 8 hours with a current machine. .
In addition, because of the arrangement of the outlet of the valve in a heated device and because of the fact that the distribution duct and the valve device are not subjected to the pressure of 100 tons of the mold, it is possible to ensuring that the heated device in question is in various angular positions with respect to the mold, thereby ensuring entry into the mold at the most desirable positions.
It is obvious that the invention is not limited to the use of a weight cavity such as that illustrated, while the invention is not limited either to the use of a socket or of a socket. an injection nozzle,
<Desc / Clms Page number 25>
equally satisfactory results being obtained in injection molding apparatus, in which the plasticized material is injected directly, into a distribution duct. The term "mesh cavity" herein refers to any source for introducing plasticized material into the delivery conduit.
It is obvious that the invention is not limited to the details described above, many modifications being able to be made to these details without departing from the scope of the invention as defined in the following claims.
