<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

The present invention relates to flexible couplings with mechanical springs - intended to act as a damper of torsional vibrations - which acquire non-linear characteristics by different effects produced by particular springs.
A very dangerous phenomenon for the resistance of crankshafts, connecting rods, connecting rod bolts and sometimes even the crankcase itself is the presence of what are known as critical torsional turns.
They are found in every engine with several cylinders, above all in high-speed engines with more or less large torsional deviation.
In the event that this torsional deviation exceeds a certain limit, at the same time exceeds the force of the material of the shaft or other part of the motor, the endurance limit and the shaft or another part of the motor. engine break under fatigue. To prevent such an unfavorable phenomenon, different arrangements of the crankshaft system are made. Different elastic elements (flexible couplings etc.) are used for the purpose of changes in the natural frequency of the torsional vibrations and in this way the displacement of the critical torsional turns in the range of turns beyond the rpm, or we attaches shock absorbers to the shafts to damp these dangerous vibrations.
However, these shock absorbers require a special construction of the crankshaft, causing the increase in engine weight and their development as well as their adjustment is extremely difficult.
The flexible couplings which lower the natural frequency of the material system of the crankshaft (above all during nodal oscillations) exist in different types and executions o The said lowering of frequencies can only occur within certain limits o Thus it can happen that a few critical turns of torsion can persist in the rev range even at lowered frequency, which can jeopardize the crankshaft mechanism. In this case it is absolutely necessary to realize the characteristic of the flexible coupling so that a change frequency of the crankshaft mechanism can occur at the same time as.
the increase in the amplitudes of the torsional vibrations which can shift the critical revolutions into ranges which are out of the rpm which causes the damping of the torsional amplitude.
To achieve this goal it is necessary to create what is commonly called non-linear characteristics of the flexible coupling, during which the transmitted torque is not linearly related to the deformation of the elastic element
These elastic elements are of different types: a) flexible couplings, where the elastic element is represented by rubber, b) flexible couplings, where the elastic element, is represented by a liquid (oil for exo) oc ) flexible couplings with mechanical springs.
Elastic rubber elements are relatively simple but not very durable and their cushioning characteristics change over time. Liquid elements require a complicated construction, which leads to excessively high construction costs. They are also extremely sensitive to wear of the sealing surfaces as well as to general adjustment.
For these reasons, the most widely used elastic elements are springs of different constructions.
The most popular coupling is the wave coil spring which has suitable damping characteristics. In that case,
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
the non-linear characteristic is acquired by changing the length of the springs. This method of coupling is relatively too complicated not very advantageous from the point of view of its weight and the manufacture of a wavy coil spring requires special industrial installations. The other known couplings have their non-linear characteristic which appears to be relatively poor and they serve for the constant lowering of the natural frequency of the crankshaft system without taking into account the damping of the torsional vibrations.
The embodiment of the present invention relates to a flexible mechanical spring coupling which acts as a damper against torsion vibrations and which is very simple in construction and manufacture, and weighs less than similar spring couplings. mechanics of another construction.
This coupling consists of two crowns, namely the drive crown and the driven crown, one of which is provided with notches on the outer circumference and the other on the inner circumference.
These notches are formed so that the remaining parts of these two rings together form supports for guiding the springs, so that the two rings are arranged to mesh with each other.
The length of the notches of a crown or of the two crowns differ according to the requested non-linear characteristic. The force of the springs used may be different.
An exemplary embodiment of the present invention is shown in the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 shows a general arrangement in front view and in section,
Figure 2 shows on a larger scale, in two details, the way of housing a spring, and Figures 3 and 4 show separate sketches of these two rings showing the different lengths of the notches.
The embodiment of the present invention consists of two crowns, namely, a drive crown 1 (Figure 4) and a driven crown 2 (Figure 3). The drive ring is provided on the outer circumference and the driven ring on its inner circumference with cutouts of such a shape that the remaining parts of the rings form supports 3 for guiding 4 the springs 3, and parts are arranged in such a way as to allow their mutual engagement.
In all the openings formed for the mutual engagement of the two crowns 1 and 2, springs 5 provided with a guide 4 are provided. The width of the supports 3 of one of the crowns or of the two crowns 1 and 2 is different. - rent which also changes the length of the notches a and b. Likewise, the thickness of the springs may be different.
Due to the irregular lengths of the notches a of the drive crown 1 as well as those of the notches b of the entrained crown 2, the springs 5 are also brought into action in an irregular manner, which is required. by the required characteristic of the non-linear coupling. In addition, the characteristic of the coupling can be influenced by different thicknesses given to the springs.
The flexible couplings according to the present invention can be used either to form a coupling between the motor and the actuated device, or for the suspension of reducers in aircraft engines, for example.
