L'ampli-
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc / Clms Page number 1>
The invention relates to a device for obtaining electrical oscillations of determined frequency, the oscillator being provided with a transistor as an amplifier. If it is desired to obtain from such an oscillator that the output frequency and amplitude are stable with respect to variations in supply voltages, load and ambient temperature, both for a given transistor and during replacement from one transistor to another, it is inappropriate to let the transistor itself determine the amplitude of the oscillator, as is the case with special measurements.
The amplifier
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
This study therefore depends on the supply voltage and is very strongly influenced by the dc characteristics of the transistor, characteristics varying from one unit to another and depending greatly on the temperature. The resulting instability of amplitude thus results in unequal load on the frequency determining element and therefore, in general, also in uninhability of the frequency.
According to the invention, the operation of an oscillator equipped with a transistor can be greatly improved by transmitting the reaction voltage via an amplitude limiter. With the arrangement according to the invention, the reaction voltage is therefore kept constant by limiting the amplitude independently of the state of the user and of the dc resistance of the transistor, so that the load of the determining element - the frequency and the output voltage are also necessarily kept constant.
Compared to the possibility of realizing the transistor amplifier as an amplifier with amplification control, controlled by a control variable obtained from the output amplitude, this arrangement has the advantage to be much simpler and to have no time constant in the setting.
According to another embodiment of the invention, it is particularly advantageous to connect the reaction circuit itself in series with the user. This is interesting with an oscillator equipped with a transistor because the internal resistance of the output circuit of the transistor, with respect to the user, is so high that the user and feedback circuits can only influence relatively little. the current. output by their resistance.
In order to easily recover the. problems, the feedback circuit from the output to the input and transistor is
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
advantageously constituted by the series connection of the user, of the amplitude limiter and of the element determining the frequency.
Other characteristics and advantages of the invention will emerge from the exemplary embodiments given below, without limitation, with reference to the appended drawing.
FIG. 1 of the drawing gives the principle of an arrangement according to the invention in so-called “block form” representation. The output voltage from amplifier 31 which, as shown in another figure, consists mainly of a transistor, is transmitted for the most part to user 32 and for the remainder via the amplitude limiter 33, to the element 34 determining the frequency.
The latter thus receives, independently of the variations of the user or the degree of amplification of the amplifier, a practically constant AC power. In this way, the load on the frequency determining element is not changed, which conversely results in good frequency stability of the entire oscillator. It is above all necessary for this purpose that the element determining the frequency is itself connected between the amplitude limiter and the input of the amplifier and is therefore decoupled from the user and from the output of the amplifier. 'amplifier.
It should be noted that with such an assembly, the power r supplied to the user is almost free of harmonics. The harmonics generated by the amplitude limitation are eliminated by the frequency determining element. The effect of the non-linear characteristic of the input of the amplitude limiter ta can be rendered harmless by appropriate adaptation to the internal resistance of the amplifier. There then remains only, for the user himself, the low production of harmonics of the amplifier proper.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
The conditions are obviously somewhat different when, as it is perfectly possible in practice, the user and the amplitude limiter are provided with frequency determining elements connected in parallel. Such a parallel arrangement has in particular the advantage of also eliminating small variations in the output amplitude due to variations in amplification. transistor, weak variations in any case with an appropriate assembly, but it presents however the disadvantage that the harmonics created by the amplitude limitation are transmitted to the user.
The figure of the drawing represents an exemplary embodiment of an oscillator according to the invention and more precisely an alternating current circuit only. The two diodes 1, 2 cooperate with resistor 3 as an amplitude limiter.
The T-circuit formed by the resistors 6 and the oscillating circuit 4,5 determines the frequency. Inductance 5 is simultaneously produced as a step-down transformer in order to obtain an adaptation to the low impedance input of transistor 7.
The transistor 7, in a ground-based mount, has very linear characteristics, and is therefore free from distortions.
Among the resistors connected in series with the transistor, the decoupling resistor 6 is high compared to that of input and that of user b is low compared to the input resistance, for the alternating current. , of the transistor. Therefore, the current flowing through user 8 is determined almost solely by the voltage across coil 5 and the amplification of the transistor short circuit.
The voltage across winding 5 is itself set by the diode limitation and the short-circuit current amplification is practically independent of the transistor supply voltage and ambient temperature.
This results in the circulation, in the user 8, of a current determined practically only by the diode limitation,
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
the latter being almost free of hamonics as a result of filtering by the oscillating circuit.
Silicon diodes are particularly suitable, since they have a characteristic which is substantially independent of temperature. It is even above all possible, by using silicon diodes, to constitute the amplitude limiter with a single diode, thanks to its characteristic with two bends.
From the point of view of the assembly technique, it is, however, simpler to use two diodes connected head-to-tail.
With other forms of diodes, for example rectifiers. selenium sors, which have a characteristic function of the temperature, it is advantageous, in order to compensate for the errors appearing as a result of this interdependence, to introduce additional elements into the circuit. For example, as shown in FIG. 2, it is possible to connect in parallel with the resistor 3, a conductor with a negative temperature coefficient or a semiconductor as such a variable element.
However, it is also possible to envisage connecting, between the terminals 10 and 11 of diodes 1 and 2, a stabilizing cell which, shortly after the constant voltage at its terminals, gives the rectifiers a constant polarization and therefore fixes the level of the amplitude limitation.
FIG. 3 represents, by way of example, the complete diagram of a transmitter En (with frequency modulation) for telegraphy. The transmitter is made up, broadly, by three sections, namely on the left of the drawing the modulator used to modulate the frequency of the oscillator, in the center the amplifier comprising a transistor and on the right we still have shown / for the sake of clarity, the transmit filter which is generally connected after such an oscillator. The transistor 7 is connected in the same way as that already described for figure 2, the circuits of the direct current also being
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
represented in this montage. The supply voltage for the transistor itself is supplied by the terminals K11 and K12.
The telegraph signals controlling the modulator and therefore the oscillator are applied to terminals K13 and K14. The oscillator is subjected to a reaction by the intermediary of a user, constituted by the winding 12 of a transformer and the resistance
13, and the battery pack. The amplitude limitation of the reaction voltage is effected by the two diodes 1 and 2. The capacitors 16, 17 serve to stop the direct current and the resistors 3 and ô arranged in the circuit of the emitter of the transistor, or feedback circuit, perform a feedback for direct current. The voltage divider formed by resistors 14 and 15 supplies, from the total supply voltage, the bias voltage of base B of transistor 7.
The operating mode of the system is as follows:
Inductance 18 constitutes, together with capacitor 19, the oscillating circuit (4,5 in FIG. 2) determining the frequency. With negative control voltage, that is, when terminal 3 is negative with respect to terminal 4, the rectifiers
20 and 21 are crossed by a current and on the contrary the rectifiers 22, 23, 24 and 25 are blocked by the voltage at the terminals of the resistor 26. The winding 27 of the additional coil is therefore connected in parallel, for the alternating current, with the oscillating circuit 18, 19 and the frequency of the oscillator increases.
Since the winding halves 28, 29 are separated from each other by the rectifiers 22 and 23 and are isolated by the rectifiers 24, 25, the capacitor 30 in this case has no effect.
When the voltage at terminal K13 is positive with respect to terminal K14, rectifiers 20, 21 are blocked and the other rectifiers are conductive. As a result, the winding 27 of the additional coil is disconnected and the conden-
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
sator 30, with the two windings 28 and 29, is connected in parallel with the oscillating circuit. The apparent resistance of the windings 28 and 29 is large compared to that of the condenser 30; said parallel connection is therefore capacitive and the frequency of the oscillator decreases accordingly. The oscillator therefore varies, according to the type of telegraph signal, between a higher frequency and a lower one, or vice versa.
The invention could also be applied, in addition to FM telegraphy (frequency modulation), in the most diverse ways. It is for example easy to envisage using an oscillator according to the invention in remote control devices, for example for remote measurements and similar problems. The oscillator described can obviously also be provided, without complications, for introduction into transmission devices which operate in amplitude modulation.
According to the exemplary embodiments described, the transis: tor works in a base (emitter) assembly to ground. It is obviously also possible to connect the oscillator for another operating mode, for example in emitter or collector assembly to ground.
The arrangement of the oscillating circuit itself can also be achieved in the most diverse ways. Thus, it is by no means necessary to provide, as described by way of example, a parallel LC (self-induction and capacitor) circuit, but on the contrary a series circuit can be connected without difficulty, which completely eliminates the advantage that the winding of the oscillating circuit can be used as a step-down transformer.
The arrangement described also lends itself particularly well to the use of an oscillating quarz as a frequency determining element. The quarz will be usefully made to work in this case in a so-called "#" assembly, the quarz itself then being placed in the series branch and two resistors in the parallel branches.
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
Until now, it was hardly possible to obtain a sufficient frequency constant with a quarz oscillator equipped with a single transistor. Thanks to the arrangement of the amplitude limiter according to the invention, this frequency stability is obtained for all the requirements existing in practice.
