ELECTRICAL CONNECTION AND PROCESS FOR ITS MANUFACTURING.
The present invention relates to electrical connections consisting of a conductor and a pair of contact shoes for attachment to a pair of metal parts to be electrically connected to each other such as two pieces of rail, or a line pole and a ground plate. It is common, in the case of connections of this kind, that the contact shoes are placed on the ends of the conductor, for example according to the patent No 499,139 of November 3, 1950. In most cases9 the parts to be connected are electrically are not rigidly fixed to each other but describe small relative movements, so that the connecting conductor must be very flexible to follow these movements.
This conductor is therefore made up of several thin wires and it may consist, for example, of a 'copper' cable. The total cross-sectional area of the conductor is therefore larger and the connection is bulky.
The object of the present invention is to provide an electrical connection (as well as a method for its manufacture) which, when completed and well protected, is compact and the conductor of which is capable of relative movement. is also intended to provide a connection of great durability which can be constructed and installed in a simple and inexpensive manner
According to the invention, the conductor of the connection consists of an annular part composed of several bands or bare metal wires and provided, at two points spaced apart from each other, with a pair of contact shoes,
each contact shoe being placed astride the corresponding part of the annular piece, a hole being drilled, in a conventional manner, in each contact shoe and the corresponding part of the annular piece to accommodate therein a solder pad or brazing.

The method of manufacturing an electrical connection is characterized in that several turns of tape or metal wire are tightly wound in the form of an annular piece, and placed thereon, in two points preferably diametrically. opposites, a pair of contact shoes, and a hole is drilled in each of the contact shoes and the corresponding part of said annular piece.
The invention is shown, by way of example, in an embodiment described with reference to the accompanying drawing. FIG. 1 is a view of an electrical connection according to the invention. Figs. 2 and 3 represent a contact shoe in plan and in section. Fig. 4 represents the connection established between two ends of railo
A bare metal tape, for example a copper tape 5 mm wide and 0.4 mm thick, is wound tightly in the shape of a circular or oblong ring. A contact shoe 2 consisting essentially of a circular washer provided with a notch 3, the width and depth of which correspond to the width and thickness of the turns of tape joined together, is provided at each end with the notch 3 a pair of legs 4.
Two contact shoes of this kind are tight around * the ring at two diametrically opposed points and the tabs 4 are folded outwards over the ring 1. A hole 5 is then drilled through the contact shoe. 2 and the corresponding part of the ring The connection is thus ready for assembly Each contact shoe is then placed, in a conventional manner, on the metal part to be connected, a welding stud 5 is introduced into the hole 5 and is united, by fusion, in the hole and in the piece, the two halves of the ring serving to pass the current from one contact shoe to the other
As in Fig. 4 shows, the connection according to the invention is attached to the webs 6 of two ends of rail 7.
The coiled ring 1 is flexible enough to withstand, without damage, the repeated movements of the ends of the rail, and the height of the contact shoes and of the ring itself is low enough that the entire sheltered connection can be fit under the fishplates connecting the ends of the rails by means of bolts passed through the holes 8.
The ring 1 can also consist of coiled wire and the ring can be made by securing the contact shoes and winding the wire around the shoes.
