LAVEUR ROTATIF, DESTINEA EPURER DE L'AIR OU DES GAZ,-CHARGES DE
POUSSIERE.

<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

ROTARY WASHER, INTENDED TO CLEAN AIR OR GAS, -CHARGED
DUST.
The present invention relates to a rotary scrubber, such as is advantageously used for purifying dust-laden gases, a suitable liquid serving as a washing agent. We tend to obtain an effect of intensive washing, as we know; by means of apparatus such as the washing liquid used, sprayed as finely as possible, is mixed to the greatest extent with the gases laden with dust, so that as many dust particles as possible are wetted and captured by the finely divided liquid and thus removed from the gas. For this purpose, that is to say with a view to an intimate mixture of the liquid and the gas, more or less suitable devices have been provided on the path of the gas, such as the known stirring systems, paddle or bar, or the like.
However, practice has shown that the operation of these brewing systems and the like requires a very large expenditure of energy. This drawback is due to the fact that, in recent times, rotary scrubbers, despite their relatively low purchase price, have been, to an ever increasing extent, supplanted in various branches of industry by expensive equipment.
According to the invention, 'in the rotary gas axial passage scrubber, the entire section of the scrubber is provided with several concentric rotary spray passages or cylinders arranged at a distance from each other.
The distance between the individual spray cylinders is preferably chosen so small that the washing liquid sprayed in the radial direction is not significantly deflected or entrained by the gases passing in the axial direction. To simplify construction, the washer and blower were combined to make a single device. The container or vase, receiving the water, can advantageously be of frustoconical shape; so that the contaminated washing water flows out of the washer in an axial direction.

An advantageous embodiment of the object of the invention is shown, by way of example, in the drawing.
Figure 1 shows the washer in vertical longitudinal section, along line C-D of Figure 2.
Figure 2 shows the washer in vertical cross section, taken along line A-B in Figure 1.
In the embodiment shown, the gases are fed into a washing vessel 1, in which a specially constructed drum rotates. The drum is composed of several perforated sheet cylinders 2, arranged concentrically one inside the other, that is to say spray passages. Between the shaft 3 and the outermost internal spray passage, the washing water, or another suitable liquid, is supplied by a pipe 4.
The water passes through the slits of the rotating cylinder and is finely atomized thanks to the centrifugal drilling; it is projected onto the internal face of the second spray cylinder, where it captures the dust, to then pass through the slots of the second spray cylinder and to be projected again at high speed onto the internal face of the third cylinder. This play is repeated until the washing liquid has passed through the last spray cylinder of the drum. Here the washing liquid is collected by a stopper shroud 5 and is forced out of the washer. For this purpose, the stop casing 5 has a frustoconical shape and the soiled washing water is entrained, under the effect of centrifugal force and according to the principle of the inclined plane, towards the side where the casing of stop widens.
The washing liquid forms a dense, extraordinarily active rain over the entire cross section of the washer, which is directed transversely to the gas stream. The distance between the two cylinders of each pair of cylinders is simply chosen such that the finest water particles still strike the last spray cylinder at high speed, before being picked up by the sprayer. gas stream and to be substantially separated from their radial direction. It is thus achieved that, over the entire cross section of the scrubber, the water particles are projected from the spray cylinders onto the dust particles in such a way that the paddle stirrer, which would use too much water. energy, or superfluous.
In addition, the new device has the advantage that the water particles come into contact with the dust particles immediately after their formation, ie before they can group together with other particles. But the smaller the fog particles, the lower, as is known, the surface tension and the easier the humidification of the dust particles.
To this is added that, as has been mentioned, the dust and water particles meet at such a high speed that, on the one hand, the dust particles have no possibility of escape. escape and that they are, in a way, driven out of the gas and that, on the other hand, the surface tension of the water particles is more easily dominated by the living force of the encounter, which favors a wetting and a faster collection of dust particles. On his way; the washing liquid is charged with dust by the gas stream and it leaves the washer in the form of water charged with impurities, through the annular channel 6, provided with the discharge pipe 7.
The gases thus purified have a high degree of purity because, owing to the particular advantages of the scrubber forming the subject of the invention over known scrubbers, even the finest dust is captured to a large extent.
By doing away with paddle-wheel stirring systems or the like, the energy use of new washers is significantly lower than that of known systems. Added to this are the more favorable separation conditions in which the new washer works, so that it marks a significant technical progress both from the point of view of energy use and from the point of view of purification effect.
The washer can also be combined with a blower 9, 10, 11, to form a single device, the washer proper being advantageously provided in the suction pipe of the container 10. The outlet

exhaust gas flow through the exhaust manifold 11. The scrubber can, depending on the need, be constructed vertically or horizontally. This combined arrangement has the advantage that only one drive motor is required.
