IMPROVEMENTS TO: PENS A. ' BALLS.
The present invention relates to ballpoint pens of the type comprising a hollow casing in which an ink reservoir and the ball point associated with it are able to retract and out of which they are able to be pushed against the action. of an elastic element.
According to the invention, the ink reservoir and the ball point associated with it are able to be moved due to the interaction of two oblique cam surfaces, one of which is carried by the upper end of the

to turn on the upper end of the envelope.
The oblique cam surface carried by the upper end of the still can be mounted on a comparatively thin, movable, non-rotatable plate in two grooves provided in the casing.
To lock the ink reservoir and associated ball point in its retracted and protruding positions, a groove extending

attached drawing.
Fig. 1 shows a longitudinal section of the pen, the ball point being in the retracted position, FIG. 2 represents the same object, the ball point being in
prominent position.
Fig. 3 shows a cross section along the line
III-III of fig. 2.
Fig. 4 shows a cross section along the line
IV-IV of fig 2.
The number 1 designates the envelope inside which the
reservoir 2 and the ball point 3 which is associated with it are movable in
the longitudinal direction. A sleeve 4 is introduced or formed in the upper end of the casing 1, this sleeve being provided with two grooves 5 and 6, diametrically opposed. The plate 7, fixed to the upper end of the ink tank 2 and provided at the top with a cam surface
oblique 8, can move, but not rotate, in grooves 5 and 6.
A cylindrical member 10 is fixed inside the cap 9 and is shaped so as to form an oblique cam surface 11 this surface
having a groove 12 with diametral extension (see fig. 4 . A spring at.
coil 13 is arranged between the lower end of the casing 1 and the lower end of the ink reservoir 2.
When the various parts take the positions shown in fig. 1, the ball point 3 is retracted, the oblique surfaces 8 and 10 then resting entirely on one another due to the pressure of the
coil spring 13. In this position, the two cam surfaces are
locked due to the fact that the oblique edge of the plate 7 penetrates
entirely in the diametral groove 12, provided in the member 10.
When the ball point 3 is to be pushed out,
the cap 9 is turned half a turn, the plate 7 and therefore the reservoir
ink 2 and the ball point 3 then being moved down against
the action of the spring 13, towards the position shown in fig. 2. They are then
locked in this position due to the fact that the upper corner of
the plate 7 enters the diametrical groove 12 of the member 10.
The invention can be modified in various aspects with respect to
to the embodiment described while remaining within the scope of the appended claims.
