METHODE DE PRODUCTION D'UNE ATMOSPHERE DE FOUR PROTECTRICE OU CARBURANTE
P'OUR METAUX.

METHOD OF PRODUCTION OF A PROTECTIVE OR FUEL OVEN ATMOSPHERE
FOR METALS.
The invention relates to a method of producing a protective or fueling furnace atmosphere for metals. It has previously been proposed to introduce into a furnace, dropwise, a solution containing lithium so as to produce a furnace atmosphere for carburizing or protecting metals, and the present invention aims to increase the efficiency of such a method.
The invention consists of a method of producing a protective or fueling furnace atmosphere for metals, which is characterized by injecting under pressure, into the furnace chamber, a solution containing lithium, a point separate from the fuel injection point, for the defined purpose.
In accordance with a preferred method of carrying out the present invention, a lithium-containing solution is prepared as described in Applicant's patent application of the same date for "Improved Method for the Production of Lithium. a lithium-containing solution, to be introduced into a furnace to generate a protective furnace atmosphere or metal fuel "comprising dissolving a lithium salt in hot naphthenic acid and adding it to the lithium naphthenate formed of a hydrocarbon liquid, and this solution is injected under pressure through one or more fine nozzles, into the furnace chamber, at a point separate from the fuel injection point.
The injection of the lithium-containing solution can be carried out continuously with the aid of a pump, or intermittently by a pump similar to that used to inject commercial diesel oil into diesel engines. It will be observed that the liquid thus injected is finely pulverized, which results in its faster gasification. And, therefore, the faster penetration and greater penetrating power of the vapor which will penetrate rapidly, for example. a load of small items, placed anywhere or randomly in the oven chamber.

Absolute control of the injection volume and time can be achieved by providing valves or valves to control the injection nozzles.
