PERFECTIONNEMENTS ,APPORTES AUX ORGANES DE .COMMANDE . DE L'INJECTION DANS LES MACHINES TRQVAILLANT AU MOINS TEMPORAIREMENT COMME MACHINES A PISTONS
SEMI-LIBRES OPPOSES. ,
L'invention est relative aux organes de commande de l'injection dans les machines travaillant au moins temporairement, o'est-à-dire pour certains régimes pouvant être même purement accidentels, comme machines à pistons semi-libres opposés;
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

IMPROVEMENTS, PROVIDED TO THE CONTROL BODIES. INJECTION IN MACHINES WORKING AT LEAST TEMPORARILY AS PISTON MACHINES
OPPOSED SEMI-FREE. ,
The invention relates to injection control members in machines working at least temporarily, that is to say for certain speeds which may even be purely accidental, such as machines with opposed semi-free pistons;
these machines, which most often constitute motor-compressors or auto-generators, generally include a "two-stroke combustion engine" part, an "air compressor" part and energy storage means capable of ensure the return movement of the pistons, the outward movement of which is obtained by the combustion of fuel in said "Engine" part.
Its main aim is to make these organs such that they respond better than in the past to various desiderata in practice.
It consists, mainly, on a machine of the type in question, comprising two pistons with opposing movement, the synchronization of which is ensured by a device comprising an oscillating member, this device preferably being of the type of those with connecting rods and crank, which constitutes the aforesaid oscillating member capable of performing, at least temporarily, between two stop positions, oscillations of an angular amplitude greater than 1800 such that the external dead centers of the pistons are fixed , while the internal dead centers determine the stop positions of the crank - and at the same time to provide for the control of the fuel injection pump of this machine, using a pusher or the like ,
moved by a cam or the like linked to said oscillating member - to cause this cam to include two ramps capable of causing injection, one of these ramps acting near one of the stop positions of said crank, and the other ramp, near the other stop position of this crank.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
It comprises, apart from this main provision, certain provisions which are preferably used at the same time and which will be discussed more explicitly below.
It relates more particularly to certain modes of application, as well as certain embodiments, of the aforesaid provisions; and it relates more particularly still, and this as new industrial products, the organs of the kind in question comprising application of the aforesaid provisions, the special elements specific to their establishment, as well as the apparatus, machines, and assemblies, comprising similar organs.
And it can, in any event, be clearly understood with the aid of the additional description which follows, as well as the appended drawing, which supplement and drawing are given, of course, above all by way of indication.
Fig. 1, of 'this, drawing ,, is the positioning diagram of the crank and of the inner ends of the connecting rods of the device for synchronizing the two pistons with opposite movement of a semi-free piston machine, for one of the stop positions of said crank.
Fig. 2 is the analogous diagram, of positioning for the other of the stop positions of the crank.
According to the invention, and more particularly according to that of its modes of application, as well as according to two of the embodiments of its various parts, to which it appears that it is appropriate to grant the preferred preference. to establish injection control means in. an opposing piston machine working at least temporarily as a semi-free piston machine, the procedure is as follows or analogously.
It is known that in machines with opposed free pistons, understood in the most general sense, the two pistons are frequently synchronized with each other by a connecting rod-crank system, comprising a hand crank. velle 1 being able to pivot about an axis 2 and two connecting rods 3 and 4 respectively connected to the two opposed pistons not shown.
We also know that, in the field of free piston machines, understood in the general sense, we distinguish the two main categories of free piston machines proper, and that of machines which operate, at least for certain speeds, as semi-free piston machines.
In free-piston machines proper, the outside and inside dead centers of the pistons are not mechanically determined, so that the synchronization crank 1 oscillates between two stop positions, between which it does not. moves only at an angle less than 1800 ,, and without going through. a position parallel to the axis of the pistons relating thereto. ''
In semi-free piston machines, on the contrary, one of the `` two dead points of the pistons, and in general their external dead center, is well determined and corresponds to the kinematic dead center of the piston rod-crank system.
The crank. then oscillates again between two stop positions, but moving at an angle greater than 1800 between these two positions, passing through a position parallel to the axis of the pistons at the connection of which it serves, position corresponding to the external kinematic dead center of these pistons.
It follows that, in a free machine proper, the return of the pistons to internal dead center normally corresponds to a
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
rotation always oriented in the same direction, of the oscillating members such as the crank 1. On the contrary, in a machine operating, in 'semi-free, the direction of rotation of the crank is reversed with each beat, so that, when the pistons first reach their free dead center (which will be assumed hereinafter to be its internal dead center), the crank 1 is in the vicinity of one of its stop positions, thus as shown in fig.
1, and after moving in the direction of arrow 5, while, when the pistons again reach their free dead center on the next beat, the crank is in the vicinity of. the other of its stop positions as shown in fig. 2, and after moving in the direction of arrow 6. '
In free-piston machines proper, it is known to take advantage of the movement of the crank 1 to control the injection of fuel into the engine cylinder of the machine working in the two-stroke cycle.
To this end, said crank is made to include a cam, eccentric or the like, the axis of rotation of which may coincide with the axis 2 of the crank, this cam acts on a pusher or the like, to cause the operation of the injection pump, towards the moment when the pistons reach, in the engine cylinder, their internal dead centers, and therefore for a determined direction of rotation of the crank 1.
Consequently, if one proposes to use an identical device to control the injection in the case of semi-free machines, one is led to provide two cams, each acting on it pusher and, through it, on an injection pump, each of these assemblies functioning for 'Him determined direction of rotation of the corresponding crank.
In accordance with the invention, on the contrary, provision is made for the control of the injection of a machine with semi-free pistons, by a cam 7 comprising two ramps 8 and 9 capable of causing the injection. injection, one of these ramps 8 acting near the stopping point of the crank after its rotation in direction 5, and the other ramp 9 acting near the other stopping point of the crank, after its rotation in direction * 6.
In the figures, it is assumed that the cam 7 acts on the pusher 10 by means of a roller 11, but this arrangement is in no way limiting.
As a result, 'and whatever the embodiment adopted, means are obtained for controlling the injection in a working machine, at least for certain speeds, in particular for their maximum flow speeds, such as a machine. machine with semi-free pistons, means whose mode of action emerges sufficiently from what precedes, so that it is unnecessary to enter on this subject without any additional detail. In any case, these means have real advantages, and in particular: that of leading to a simplification of the injection control members.
It should also be noted that the invention can also be applied to machines with free pistons proper, for which a temporary operation as a machine with semi-free pistons is only an accident which can occur more. or less rarely.
@ It has already been proposed to stop such a free piston machine proper, when the connecting rod and crank synchronization device passes through the position in which the synchronization device is extended (the crank then being parallel to the axis pistons).
On the other hand, when recourse is had to the present invention, there is no longer any need to stop the free piston machine itself when said accident occurs. product, and this avoids having to repeat the operation of starting the machine.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
Advantageously, a warning device is also provided which indicates that the free pistons have reached their external kinematic dead center determined by the lengthening of the synchronization device so that the supervisor of the machine can modify its setting in such a way that said accident does not. happen more.
Another advantage obtained by the application of this. invention to machines with free pistons proper, in which the pistons only accidentally reach their external kinematic dead center, consists in that the manufacturer is no longer obliged, as is the case in machines with known free pistons, to take care to - arrange the machine in such a way that the external dead center always remains quite far from the kinematic dead center. The resulting drawback is thus avoided, namely the presence of considerable dead spaces which would reduce the volumetric efficiency of the compressor cylinders.
As goes without saying and as it follows moreover already from the foregoing, the invention is in no way limited to that of its modes of application, nor to those of the embodiments of its various parts. , having been more especially indicated; on the contrary, it embraces all the variants.
