MOLDED SAFETY SHEATH FOR EXPLOSIVES.
The present invention relates to so-called security sheaths composed of inert material, in general of fusible salts constituting at the time of the explosion a protective screen for the explosive which they contain.
One of the aims pursued is to increase safety by also sheathing the bottom (s) and for this purpose the sheath is in the form of a hollow cylinder closed at one end.
This sheath will preferably have been treated so as to be made rigid by any suitable means.
For example, as described and placed under protection in patent application N 393281 of 11.6.1951 in the name of the applicant, it will be possible to provide the addition to the inert material of a hardening compound and of filaments such as glass silk. , asbestos fiber, hairs; etc.
Such a sheath will contain, for example, baking soda as an extinguishing material.
The accompanying drawing represents by way of example a sheath produced according to the invention.
In this drawing 1 designates the sheath and 2 the bottom by which the sheath is closed at one end.
Under these conditions, the explosive shown in 3 can be introduced directly into the sheath without the interposition of paper. Closure at the other end can be done with a simple washer 4.
A further characteristic of the invention is that the explosive core can take the form of a shaped charge on the side of the bottom of the sheath and for this purpose it is possible to provide, in the base, a cone 5 of a suitable material.
This shaped charge has the effect of increasing the speed of transmission of the detonation from one cartridge to another and of avoiding so-called "flushing" mines.
