<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

METHOD AND DEVICE FOR MOUNTING MINE COVERS.
In mechanized piers, the roof is supported near the coal front by hoods, the end of which is above the conveyor and the mining machine, which is unsupported, while the other end is clamped to the roof by a mining prop, or to a previous hood is attached. As soon as space has become available as the extraction progresses, a mine prop is placed under or near the unsupported end of this hood.
The fitting of such caps entails difficulties in that the stutter has to bend above the conveyor and can therefore exert less force or, after the transistor has stopped, has to move into the unsupported building. . The hoods are therefore often mounted by two workers, one of whom lifts the hood and the other makes the connection with the fixed hood or the support. Obviously this method of working is very uneconomic.
The invention provides a method and apparatus for mounting mining hoods to an already installed hood, requiring only one worker, who does not need to enter the unsupported building and yet the hood is fully within its power range during mounting. has.
This is obtained according to the invention in that a bracket provided with a bracket is attached to the already placed hood in such a way that the bracket is located in front of the end of this hood, after which the hood to be mounted is placed with one end on the bracket and so far is pushed through so that the other end can be attached to the already placed cap. To this end, the bracket is provided with means for attaching the bracket to the hood already placed and with one for it
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
supporting the bracket serving to be mounted, which is arranged at or near the end of the bracket which, after attaching the bracket to the hood already placed, protrudes in front of this hood. The bracket can be attached to the already installed hood using bolts.
A very suitable fastening device, which does not require separate fastening means, consists of two spaced apart upright walls, the top edges of which are bent inward so that they can grip the bottom flange of the already installed cap. By holding the bracket at an angle, one of the edges can then be hooked around the flange of the hood already placed, after which the other edge can be hooked to the flange by turning the bracket back to its normal position.
One of the ends of the hood to be mounted is now placed on the console, after which the hood is moved so far along the roof that the other end can be attached to the end of the hood already installed. If the connection between the two hoods is not designed in such a way that the mounted hood can be pressed against the roof to be supported with some pretension, the mounting bracket is provided with an adjusting device, whereby the position of the bracket relative to the fixed hood can be adjusted and the mounted hood can also be pressed against the roof with some pre-tension. This adjusting device can consist of a screw spindle, which can be turned by a handwheel or similar member arranged under the bracket.
Instead of a threaded spindle, a wedge can also be used, which wedge is driven between the cap and the bracket.
The invention will be explained in more detail with reference to the exemplary embodiment shown in the drawing.
Herein Figure 1 represents a top view of the mounting bracket and Figure 2 a side view. In Figure 3 a cross-section of the mounting bracket is drawn during attachment to the fixed hood and in Figure 4 in the position in which the bracket is suspended from the hood. Figure 5 is a sectional view of the console.
The mounting bracket consists of a tube 1, which is provided at one of the ends with a bracket 2 for supporting the hood to be mounted. Upstanding walls 3 are welded to the tube, the top edges 4 of which are bent inwards. By tilting the bracket slightly, one of these edges can be slid over the bottom flange of the fixed cap 5 (see figure 3), after which the other edge is hooked to the flange by turning the bracket back to its normal position ( see figure 4). The end of the hood 6 to be mounted is now placed on the console 2, after which this hood is pushed through so far that the other end can be attached to the hood 5. In the exemplary embodiment, the caps are arranged in line with each other. For this purpose a bend has been made in the tube at 7, so that the console 2 is in line with the hood 5.
This also means that no difficulties are encountered if a strut 8 has to be placed in the center of the hood 6 as the extraction progresses.
After the hood 6 has been mounted, the threaded spindle 9 is turned by means of the clamp 10 and screwed against the hood 5. This will push the rear end of the bracket down. The bent edges 4, with which the bracket hangs from the fixed hood, are rounded (see figure 2), so that they act as the pivot point of the bracket during adjustment. The end of the bracket to which the console 2 is attached moves upwards when the screw spindle is screwed in and presses the hood 6 against the roof to be supported.
In order to ensure that the console is exactly in line with the fixed hood, two strips 11 are welded to the bracket, which strip the lower flange of the hood. Lateral sliding of the mounted hood on the console is prevented by a raised edge 12 arranged at the end of the console.
At the place where the bracket hangs from the fixed hood, the hood is provided with ribs 13. These prevent the bracket from rotating about its longitudinal axis after being fitted. The mounting of the bracket takes place at a location of the hood where the ridges are not present, after which
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
the bracket is pushed along the hood until the walls 3 lie under the ridges 13.
