<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
On pourrait notamment utiliser toute matière adéquate et tel mode de liaison ou d'assemblage des pièces entre elles qui semblerait convenable;

ELASTIC TRANSMISSION MECHANISM.
The present invention relates to an elastic transmission mechanism intended to serve as an intermediary in systems where sudden or too rapid mechanical actions occur.
In such systems, it is often useful to have a damper or retarder device in order to moderate the effects of the forces applied suddenly or to attenuate their reactions.
To this end, according to the invention, external forces are transmitted with a certain damping and / or a certain delay by means of a mechanism in which a volume of air is compressed by a piston under the action of the applied force,
then is allowed to relax from the end of the compression until the air pressure becomes insufficient to retain and brake the piston, the latter continues its stroke and transmits either directly or by a relay system a force equal to 1-external force or different from it, at the place or on the object intended to receive it.
In an advantageous embodiment of the invention, the force to be transmitted is resiliently transferred to the piston serving to compress the air so that when the compressed air is allowed to relax, a sudden pulse is imparted to the air. piston through which the initial force or a different force is transmitted either directly. or by a relay system at 1-place or on the object intended to receive it ,.
Other features of the invention will emerge from the description of the elastic transmission mechanism given below by way of nonlimiting example and with reference to the accompanying drawings,

A device according to the invention consists essentially of a casing 1 having the general shape of a cylinder, the cross section of which may be arbitrary but is preferably circular. The casing 1, which may consist of several removable parts or not, has two bases 1 ′ and 1 ″, of which at least one, or both, are removable by screwing, fitting or any other suitable means.
A hole, preferably circular, is made in one of the bases, for example in the base le. Through this hole, protrudes, outside the casing 1, a cylindrical head 2 ′ made integral with another cylinder 2 disposed inside the casing 1 along which the cylinder 2 can slide.
Preferably, the outside diameter of cylinder 2 is approximately equal to the inside diameter of casing 1 while the outside diameter of cylinder 2 'is approximately equal to the diameter of the air hole in base 1'. The assembly formed by the cylinders 2 and 2 'is pressed against the internal face of the base 1' by an elastic intermediate, for example by a spring 3 which bears either directly on the base 1 "or on any other part. internally secured to the casing 1 or to its base 1 ".
In its movements, the cylinder 2 slides between two walls: an outer wall formed by the casing 1 and an inner wall formed by a cylinder 4 preferably coaxial with the cylindrical casing 1. The cylinder 4 rests at the base 4 'on the base 1 "of the cylinder 1 or else is integral with the latter by any other appropriate means.
The bottom 4 ′ of cylinder 4 is crossed by a rod 5 of piston 6.
The rod 5 slides as airtight as possible in a ring 7 integral with the bottom 4 'of the cylinder 4. The head 6 of the piston is provided with a seal 6' in such a way that the air trapped in chamber 8 can be compressed practically without leakage. In the rod 5 of the piston 6-6 'is hollowed out a longitudinal channel 9 which opens into 2 transverse channels 9' and 9 ".
The role of these channels is as follows:
The apparatus being supposed to be placed in a vertical position, a descent of the piston 6-6 'compresses the air in the space formed by the chamber 8 and the channels 9, 9', 9 ". If the length of the ring 7 is shorter than the distance between the channels 9 'and 9 "there will come a time when the channel 9" will emerge outside the ring 7 thus putting the chambers 8 and 10 in communication with each other and possibly with the air outside.
The movements of the piston are controlled by the cylindrical head 2 'and by an elastic intermediate such as a spring 11 for example. One end of the spring 11 is attached to the head of the piston 6 while the other end of the spring 11 is attached to the nut 12 by a screw 13 made integral with the head 2 'by means of a covering part 14. Rotation of the nut 12 is for example prevented by studs such as 12 '. The tightening of the cover piece on the head 2 'and the head of the screw 13 is adjustable by means of the screws 15 which optionally makes it possible to release the screw 13 sufficiently to be able to give it a rotation in one. either way.
A rotation of the screw 13 has the effect of modifying the distance between the nut and the head 2 'and this results in a variation in the tension of the spring 11.
The operation of the device is as follows
A force F applied to the head 2 'is transmitted to the head of the piston 6 with a certain delay and a certain damping thanks to the springs 3 and 11. The air contained in the chamber 8 is compressed until the moment when the channel 9 "of the rod 5 of the piston 6 opens into the chamber 10. The compressed air then expands and the piston and its rod continue their travel under the effect of the spring 11. Thanks to this movement of the piston and its rod in the direction of the initial force F, the latter can be transferred either directly to the desired location, or to any mechanical or electrical relay whatever. The force F is transferred with l the desired damping and delay thanks to the different adjustment possibilities of the elements that make up the device.
According to the invention, the rod 5 of the piston 6 can act on the
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
following device in the chamber 10 a leaf spring 16 for example, is held in a groove 17 so as to present its convexity towards the rod 5 of the piston 60 During its downward movement, the rod 5 comes into contact with the spring 16 and exerts on it a thrust which deforms it until the moment when the spring 16 protrudes its point of equilibrium and suddenly relaxes to present its convexity downwards. The action of the rod 5 of the piston 6 on the spring 16 can be reinforced by means of a spring 18. To the spring 16 can be fixed a rod 19 guided in a ring 20 integral with the base 1 "of the cylindrical casing. 1.
The live force thus communicated to this rod 19 is finally used in any manner generally arbitrary.
It should be understood that the invention is in no way limited to the embodiments described above and that many modifications can be made to it without departing from the scope of the present patent application.
One could in particular use any suitable material and such method of connection or assembly of the parts together which would seem suitable;
