<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

Improvements made to the processes for the manufacture of rubber objects * by vulcanization.
It is known in the rubber industry to manufacture rubber objects * or articles using ultra-accelerators and by self-vulcanization at room temperature or using ordinary accelerators, which can be used in various combinations, and by hot vulcanization at temperatures of 110 and above, using customary softeners.
In practice, it is inserted between the autovulcanization temperatures, which go up to 50, and those of hot vulcanization, which are greater than 1100, a large temperature zone which has not yet been achieved. exploited. Extensive tests have shown that it is possible, according to the invention, to occupy this temperature zone when specific combinations of accelerators and softeners are used.
The method, which is the subject of the invention, and which is used for the manufacture of rubber articles by vulcanization, consists in incorporating into rubber
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
raw and / or artificial, containing the usual charges, a combination of accelerators, suitable for slowing down vulcanization and which become active from 70, and a combination of softeners suitable for flattening the vulcanization curve and allowing prolonged storage at temperatures below 70, this mixture being vulcanized at temperatures above 70,
preferably between 70 and 100
The effect thus obtained by the combination of the accelerators is an absolute ultra-acceleration effect analogous to that which could hitherto be achieved by a combination of semi-ultra-accelerators at the usual temperatures above 100. but it was not possible, with these known combinations, to obtain a prolonged preservation of the raw rubber mixture. The process, which is the object of the invention, is used above all for the manufacture of articles which require a prolonged storage capacity of the raw mixture before vulcanization, for example for the escape of tires. Automotive or for the re-assembly of any rubber articles, for example rubber soles, cables, dental appliances, etc.
The invention is not, however, to be limited in this sense because the new process also makes it possible to fuoricate, for example, new rubber tires and cables, rubberized fabrics and any other rubber articles by a machine.

vulcanization at temperatures above 70
In each case, in addition to saving energy, faster manufacture of tires, cables, etc. is obtained, independently of the machines and devices used.
The accelerators, which slow down vulcanization, consist above all of a combination of thioureas, thiazols and guanides. One uses, for example, a combination of an acid derivative) or di-thiocarbamic a mercapto-banzothisaoxzl / a disulfide of the latter and / or diphenyl-guaideins, This combination of accelerators, the proportion of which corresponds to from 0.5 to 2% of the total amount of rubber, allows the use of a relatively reduced amount of sulfur, of about 2% calculated equal- Binds relative to the total amount of rubber, this combination only becoming active at temperatures of 70 and above. The higher the vulcanization temperature, the shorter the duration of the vulcanization.
By the chosen constitution of the mixture with the indicated combinations of accelerators and softeners, the vulcanization can be carried out below and above 1000 so that the mixture can be used for an extremely wide range of applications in the field. rubber technique.
Advantageously, however, temperatures above 100 are not adopted. Preferably, for the indicated combination of accelerators, one works at a temperature close to 90 ° which makes it possible to obtain, with respect to vulcatison
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
the usual hot, in very significant energy savings by the intervention of reduced temperatures and by the shortening of the duration of the vulcanizatio
In addition to the combination of accelerators, in order to obtain a regular vulcanization process, recourse must be had to a combination of softeners and which are constituted, for example, by bitumen, steric acid or the like, barite, a vegetable gel and oils contained in the regenerate to add.
The proportion of softeners, calculated from the total amount of rubber, should be between 10 to 20%. Below 10%. the rubber mixture may adhere to processing machines or vulcanizing molds. This combination of softeners, together with the combination of accelerators, provides extended shelf life of the raw mix and provides a very flattened vulcanization curve appearance with a large heating plate. This combination therefore allows multiple overshoot without the mechanical properties of the products obtained being significantly reduced.
The chosen combination of softeners further provides an extended softening period before the start of vulcanization so that with reduced pressure a safe run of the vulcanization process is obtained and the rubber has a very long time. long to penetrate into fabric layers, for example in tire stabilizers or rubberized fabrics. This combination also prevents the formation of bubbles or
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
air pockets entered the fabric and rubber upholstery. This makes it possible to eliminate the usual mattress which is interposed between the tread and the tire lining.
For the manufacture of automobile tires and for retreading, the procedure is carried out, in accordance with the invention, by spraying the aforementioned mixture with a spray gun, containing the indicated combinations of accelerators and softeners to form a tread or tread which is vulcanized in a suitable mold on the carcass or on the backing at temperatures above 70 and preferably between 70 and 100.
It is thus possible to keep for months a tread, for example coiled in the raw state on itself, before use and without the occurrence of self-valcanization. It is important that one uis to intervene, for the vulcanization, of the relatively reduced temperatures which greatly spare the interlocks or the carcass so that such a tire can be escaped as many times as one. wants it without any danger and its mechanical properties decrease. In addition, for the production we are no longer obliged to proceed to the immediate use of the raw treads and the operator can draw on a reserve, when he has to make a retraction, without having to prepare the treads himself. mixtures needed.
Above all, it can work at temperatures below 100 for which there are no risks of dangers such as those which result,
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
so far from the use of superheated steam. The vulcanizing molds can, on the contrary, be heated with water or oil at a suitable temperature or with electricity, which also simplifies the vulcanizing apparatus. In this way, above all, consumption is avoided. high heat of sorta that the treatment can be done in a much more economical way than those applied heretofore.
For the manufacture of woven and rubberized articles, for example raincoats, rubber carpets or covers, etc., a thin layer of the mixture, made according to the invention, is applied to the fabric, to the fabric. waterproof, etc., after which the object is suspended in a hot chamber or the like heated for example from 70 to 1000 and in which the object is, in a short time, permanently vulcanized.
