<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
REVENDICATIONS

their, hardly being feasible.
When we put the heating corrugator in grooves formed in a ceramic body to then cover these grooves by means of a malleable ceramic paste and embed the whole in cast metal, the heat transmission is significantly less. effective because between the individual turns of the heating conductor there is only thermal insulating material.
By means of the present invention it is possible to eliminate the difficulties which have hitherto been encountered in the manufacture of a heating conductor in spirals, zig-sag or similar shape, surrounded by an insulating tube resistant to heat. heat, ceramic, and embedded in cast metal.
The present invention consists in coating the heating conductor by means of one or more tubular pieces of insulating material and having the desired shape, for example spiral, zig-zag or the like; then sealing the space which separates the insulating elements by applying a liquid or paste insulating substance and finally, drowning the whole in metal.
By this process, the insulated heating conductor can easily be given any shape. even complicated **
Another characteristic of the invention is that the connection members, which can be connected, for example, by two male plugs intended to cooperate with a female socket with a cord, can be made integral with the corresponding elements. of the heating conductor by connecting for example the ends of the conductor with each of the corresponding plugs. and the insulating envelope with the insulating base of these plugs, before pouring the metal, and it is only after only that one drowns the whole in
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
metal, to the base of the plugs.
Instead of a plug socket outlet, a screw cap of the type normally used for lighting lamps may be incorporated into the device by the same method.
A particularly preferred embodiment of the invention finally consists in covering the heating conductor with insulating beads and in mounting it on a core template, made of ceramic or metal; then to close the interstices which separate the pearls with the aid of a liquid or paste insulating material and finally to embed the whole in cast metal. The use of these insulating beads also makes it possible to manufacture, without any difficulty, heating conductors in shapes having numerous and tight helical turns.
The following is a description of two embodiments of the invention given by way of non-limiting example with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which!
Fig.l shows in perspective and in partial section a kettle or pan heated from the bottom; figure 2 shows the electric heating element incorporated in the previous device and shown in plan with part section and figure 3 shows in perspective and in part section of the metal parts, a kettle which is heated in the side walls .
In the embodiment according to FIGS. 1 and 2, the heating conductor with a helical structure 1 is housed in an insulating ceramic tube 2 formed 4 'in an assembly of three parts. At the elbows 3 a tight connection has been revised and offering a certain mechanical resistance by applying a hardened insulating substance * sand, paste or liquid, for

example of alumina earth or magnesium mixed with water glass (potassium alicate). The connections.
4 of the conductors with the current request * plugs 5 are also covered by the mass of liquid ceramic. The protective cover 6 of the plugs is fixed to the insulating tube by means of ties 7 of suitable wire. The electric heating element thus prepared is placed as it is in the tooth mold which the kettle will be cast according to FIG. 1. In the finished article, the heating element is embedded in the thick metallic bottom of the container.
It is clear that in such a method of manufacture the heating element is absolutely protected against any mechanical or thermal damage and that, on the other hand, a much higher thermal transmission is achieved between the heating element and the heat sink. material to heat
The heat transmission from the heating conductor to the metal can be further improved by filling the spiral conductor 1 with ceramic paste or by firmly securing this conductor to the ceramic tube by concreting a ceramic mass at the same time. 'granular state, so as to eliminate all air pockets.
Finally, in this mode of manufacture, all mechanical connection operations are eliminated, except the connections 4, which significantly reduces the cost price, while increasing the duration and the operating safety of the device.
It is obvious that the heating conductor shown in FIG. 2 is only the simplest case.
By forming the tubes. with multiple zig-zags you can achieve any desired length of conductor. heated.
As a replacement for or in addition to bottom heating, it is also possible to obtain heating via the wall of these containers, by
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
molten metal, as described below with reference to Figure 3.
In this embodiment, use is made of an Ile core template or assembly formed by a metal wire in the form of two rings joined by rods. A conductor formed of a heating wire 12 with helical turns is wrapped in ceramic beads 13 and mounted in several turns around the structure 11 of metal wire; then, the ends of the conductor are connected to the male plugs 14 of the socket. Then, we soak several hay together thus produced, .au :! the current outlet in an insulating ceramic mass., or it is applied, by spraying or by brush coating or the like so that the insulating conductor is embedded in an insulating tube 15 after hardening of the mass.
Finally, the assembly thus prepared is placed in the mold where it will be surrounded by molten metal so as to obtain an electric kettle according to FIG. 3.
According to another embodiment, the current requesting device can also be surrounded with
16 of the cast metal to the edge / so that the plugs 17 are in a cavity formed in the casting.
Instead of using a wire mount, one can also use a ceramic mount.
In a completely analogous way one can construct a tubular heating element for the pre-heating of the cooling water of automobile radiators by using a mounting of smaller diameter and greater peripheral length, so that it surrounds the heated conductor on a greater number of @pires.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
Of course the outer shape of the article. readings according to the invention can be modified in different ways and the method according to the invention makes it possible to construct in an economical manner electric heating devices of all kinds for household, professional and industrial use.
