L'invention sera décrite en manière d'exemple en se référant au dessin accompagnant le présent mémoire,dessin dans lequel : fig. 1 est une vue en élévation latérale d'une forme de réalisation de l'invention;
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

"Improvements to electronic heating"
The present invention relates to the heating by radio-electric frequency currents of a material, for example a dielectric material, during the transfer of such a material from one position to another.
The need for such a heating device may arise, for example, in the manufacture of cables for the preheating of a continuous supply of plastic material to be applied to the core of the cable in order to constitute the insulating envelope of the latter. .
The invention is however applicable to the heating of other materials capable of being heated by heat.

rants at radio frequencies.
Heating by radiofrequency currents of a moving material presents certain difficulties. If a conveyor belt is used, and if the belt is of an insulating material, such as asbestos or the like, heat is developed there as well as in the material, transported by the belt, which is wants to heat. This results in a loss of yield and the possibility of damaging the strip. If, on the other hand, a metal strip is used and if this strip forms one of the plates of a capacitor used for heating by radio-frequency currents, one experiences difficulties in making a satisfactory electrical connection with the moving band and it is difficult to confine the radio frequency current, in the band alone.
The object of the present invention is to provide an apparatus in which these difficulties are avoided.
According to the invention, the apparatus for heating by radiofrequency currents comprises an oscillating corridor for producing the advance of the material to be heated, the oscillating corridor comprising a corridor plate made of electrically conductive material and a device. for vibrating the plate so that the material advances along the corridor, a conductive plate supported above and isolated from the plate, and a device for applying a radio frequency potential difference between the plate and the said plate.
The invention will be described by way of example with reference to the drawing accompanying this specification, the drawing in which: FIG. 1 is a side elevational view of one embodiment of the invention;
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Fig. 2 and 3 are a plan view and an end elevational view, respectively, of a portion of the embodiment of FIG. l, and
Fig. 4 is a diagram of one mode of actuation of the apparatus of FIGS. 1, to 3.
Referring to Figs. 1 to 3, a base 10 supports, by means of inclined consoles 11, in the known manner, a vibrating plate 12 in the form of a channel having raised side walls 13. The material to be transported and heated is brought to the tank. tray 12 by a hopper portion of the tray indicated at 14, and is taken up at the other end 15 in any desired manner, for example by a conveyor belt, which, however, is not shown.
The plate 12 is set into vibration by means of an electromagnet 16 having an excitation winding 17, mounted on a pedestal 18 on the base 10, and the frame 19 of which is fixed to the plate 12. The winding 17 has a plug socket 20, 21, to be connected to a suitable source of alternating current. As the alternating excitation current passes through winding 17, armature 19 is intermittently attracted to magnet 16 and platen 12 is vibrated. Due to the nature of the vibration determined by the inclined consoles 11, the material supplied to the hopper 14 will move to the left in Figs. 1 and 2, the speed of movement being determined by the magnitude of the excitation current. The oscillating corridor as described is of a known type.
A metal plate 22 is supported by insulators 23 and 24 by means of bridge pieces 25 and 26, which are fixed to the side walls 13. The space between the plate 22 and the surface of the facing plate 12 is
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
made large enough to allow the free passage of the material to be treated - A potential difference at radio frequency is applied, from a suitable source between a terminal 27 in the insulator 26 and the earth, the base 10 and therefore the plate 12 also being grounded.
As the vibration of the platen 12 causes the material supplied to it by the hopper 14 to move to the left in Figs. 1 and 2, this material passes through the alternating electrostatic field generated between the plate 22 and the plate 12, and is heated. The temperature rise depends on the magnitude of the excitation current supplied to the winding 17, which determines the amplitude of the vibrations of the plate and consequently the speed of the movement of the material, and on the magnitude of the field. electrostatic.
Referring to FIG. 4, an alternating current source is connected to terminals 28 and is conducted passing through a switch device 29 to a self-transformer 30 with variable tap 31. Terminals 20 and 21 correspond to plugs 20 and 21 of the Fig. 1 and are connected to the winding 17. The current in the winding 17 can be regulated by adjusting the position of the plug 31.
In shunt on the auto-transformer 30, conductors 32 supply current to a generator 33 of energy at radio frequency, the amplitude of the oscillations generated being controllable by a button 34. The button 34 and the outlet 31 can be moving. linked as indicated, so that an increase in the amplitude of the vibrations of the plate 12 (produced by an upward displacement of the plug 31, is accompanied by an increase in the amplitude of the oscillations of the plate 12). source 33. The linking of movements can be achieved so that the temperature at which the
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
Material on platen 12 being heated remains substantially constant despite variations in the speed of material movement.
The provision of a switch 29 common to the source 33 of radio frequency currents and to the power supply to terminals 20 and 21 ensures that radio frequency oscillations cannot be applied between plate 22 and the plate 12 of Figs. 1 to 3 without any current supplied to the electromagnet system 16, 17, 19 to set the plate in vibration. Other devices of interdependence between the source of radio frequency current and the vibration of the plate 12, serving the same purpose, may of course be employed.
