la fabrication et le rechapage des bandages pneumatiques;
<EMI ID=1.1>

<EMI ID=3.1>

Improvements in the manufacture and retreading of bandages
tires.
This invention relates to the manufacture and retreading of pneumatic tires and its object is to achieve
improved construction and layout of molds
vulcanization to vulcanize the screed, shoulders and
sides of the tire, in the position occupied by the latter when
is in contact with the road.
The invention also aims:
to establish a much lighter construction mold
and less expensive than those which are generally employed for
the manufacture and retreading of pneumatic tires;
to achieve a mold which can be heated more easily and gives rise to less heat loss, which can be
cooled much faster than the normal type of mold
bandages and which is particularly advantageous when treating
synthetic rubber; and
to make a mold from which the bandage can be extracted
without exerting lateral force on the ribs or the treads
drawings of the running surface. This is particularly
important for complicated designs when using synthetic rubber.
According to this invention, use is made for the mold of
screed of a vulcanizing ring made of sheet metal or other suitable material
required, flat or curved and presenting the screed design
desired, which can be made in one piece with the mold or be there
reported and whose internal diameter is smaller than that of the
bandage to be made or. to retread, when it is in its
normal state of inflation, and preferably approximately equal
the diameter of the inflated tire when it is in contact with the road. For the sides of the tire, we use
separate cheeks, independently heated, whose
faces may come into contact with the edges of the screed or
can be applied to their outer periphery on the face
<EMI ID = 1.1>
cheeks may be made of lightweight flexible metal or other suitable material and may be heated by steam circulating coils or other suitable devices therein
are fixed. According to a variant, the cheeks can be
lightweight heated castings as previously mentioned, or hollow castings.
During vulcanization, the vulcanizer ring and cheeks are suitably assembled to form a block.
The accompanying drawings show two embodiments of the invention.
Figure 1 is an elevational view of the apparatus. Figure 2 is a sectional view on a larger scale of part of the apparatus, showing an arrangement of the cheeks and of the vulcanizer ring. Figure 3 is a view similar to Figure 2 showing another arrangement of the cheeks and the vulcanizer ring.
According to one embodiment of the invention, the vulcanizer ring a can have a width equal to that of the yoke b of the tire to be molded and it can be split circumferentially, ment and be provided with circumferential flanges which can
be bolted together or be assembled in any other suitable manner. According to a variant, the ring can be split transversely and its ends can be assembled by appropriate devices, or they can overlap one another to allow the ring to be adapted to the different dimensions of the tires.
To introduce the bandage b into the ring a, it is necessary to reduce the total diameter of the bandage by moving its heels apart from each other by means of a suitable device. This can advantageously on a device to open the bandages.
The edges of the vulcanizer ring a do not have
flanges on the internal face which is in contact with the tire, but flanges or beads al or reinforcing pieces

<EMI ID = 3.1>
internal of the vulcanizing ring of the yoke, so that the edges of the ring are applied to the faces of the cheeks as shown in figure 2. In this way one can use a pair of cheeks for any a range of ring diameters.
The surfaces in contact with the shoulders and sidewalls of the tire are set so as to conform to the desired profile of the tire in the position it assumes when in contact with the road and they may be smooth or provided with imprints or protrusions forming any desired designs.
According to a variant, metal dies of suitable shape can be introduced between the sides of the bandage and the cheeks to compensate for any differences which may appear in the shape or the curvature between the bandage and the cheeks and, simultaneously or not, to form all desired designs on the sidewalls of the bandage.
According to another arrangement shown in figure

desired for the screed of the bandage and the cheeks have a small diameter.

tightly in this one.
The vulcanizer ring and cheeks may be provided with heating tubes d in which steam, steam or other heating medium can be circulated, but other devices
heating can also be adopted.
For use, one can advantageously place one of the

this one by means of el jaws or otherwise and we fix the other

hat is provided with a central screw g which is integral with it and
can engage the screw threads of a central threaded sleeve mounted in the underside of the bench, so as to form
a suitable device for clamping the hat on the bench. A thermal insulation device such as a stuffing h can be introduced between the cheeks on the one hand and the bench and the cap
on the other hand, or else an insulating device can be provided all around the device.
After placing the vulcanizing ring a concentrically with the bandage to be vulcanized, moving the talans away from the

allowed, and insulating blankets or other heat insulating devices may be placed around the molds. When the vulcanization is complete, the mold is cooled by appropriate means, for example by passing a refrigerant fluid through
steam pipes.
The vulcanized bandage is then removed from the mold, after
loosen the flexible steam hoses, deflate the tire, loosen the center screw, lift the cap, lift the tire, clevis ring and table rim from the bench, then remove
the rim and the inner tube, after which the tire is introduced
and the ring has in the device to open the bandages. By removing
the heels of the rim you can remove the ring a without exercising
no lateral stress on the screed sculptures.
