"PROCEDE POUR LA FABRICATION DE DEMI-PRODUITS METALLURGIQUES
DE TOUS GENRES (FILS,BARRES,RONDS,PLATS,FERS A BANDES,TOLES
<EMI ID=1.1>
<EMI ID=2.1>
<EMI ID=3.1>
<EMI ID=4.1>

<EMI ID=5.1>
<EMI ID=6.1>
l'unité de temps;
<EMI ID=7.1>

<EMI ID=14.1>

<EMI ID=17.1>
<EMI ID=18.1>
<EMI ID=19.1>

"PROCESS FOR THE MANUFACTURE OF METALLURGIC HALF-PRODUCTS
OF ALL KINDS (WIRES, BARS, ROUND, FLATS, BAND IRONS, TOLES
<EMI ID = 1.1>
It has already been proposed, without this becoming generalized in
practice, to flow into continuous work and immediately do
follow the casting by rolling, hammering, drawing or any other mechanical treatment. We then proceeded in such a way that, for
obtaining cylindrical products we started by pouring
<EMI ID = 2.1>
immediately worked in a continuous process; for the obtaining
of endless bands or sheets, we poured huge ingots of
flat iron and they were worked in a continuous process. So it was
<EMI ID = 3.1>
tre, to change the shell and thereby interrupt the casting. It was generally necessary to additionally change the rolls and replace the rolls to be profiled by normal rolls. These changes of shells and rolls caused a loss of working time in the continuous working installation and, moreover, the various shells and rolls to be profiled required considerable expenditure.
Continuous casting and rolling processes that really work in an uninterrupted fashion. and who as a result of
their relatively slow rate (which must be adjusted on the casting) allow large quantities to be produced at a time, now making it possible to deviate from the tedious process described above. The present invention shows how it is possible / starting from one and the same casting block, to manufacture the most diverse semi-finished products in continuous work; it essentially consists in that, immediately after the uninterrupted casting of a bar, it is subdivided without interruption. Similar or different partial moorings which are routed to similar or different finishing operations depending on the type of the finished product (wires, bars, rounds, plates, band irons, sheets, etc.).
The differentiation of the partial bars is obtained by dividing the original casting bar, preferably in the form of a bar or a flat, over the width and / or the thickness, and this by rolling the original bar. This generally saves the change of shells as well as the change of rolls in the first operations and thus the most diverse products are obtained without having to interrupt continuous work, both in casting and in finishing operations,
For the explanation of the invention, we will start, as an example, from the continuous casting process mentioned in Austrian patent 144 057, and from the rolling mill and from the continuous rolling process, such as
<EMI ID = 4.1>
continuous casting and rolling processes, provided that they are capable of producing quality cast products.
The drawing shows schematically examples of execution of the base of the invention.
<EMI ID = 5.1>
starts in principle from a single shell profile for the execution of semi-finished products of the most diverse shapes, and oe, i.e.
<EMI ID = 6.1>
ment from a round section.
The use of these forms is conditioned by:
1) The possibility of working large quantities in
the unit of time;
3) The possibility of working, in addition to dishes,
strips and sheets, also rounds, profiles and wires,
<EMI ID = 7.1>
other profiles, but we will only discuss them later * For the illustration of the main idea, we choose the section by little
near rectangular.
3) Besides the use of this basic form for all semi-finished products, the invention is also based on this fact, proved by
a large number of practical tests, that in the continuous running casting and rolling processes, as mentioned above, it is easy to increase the rolling in the first operation from 0% to within
<EMI ID = 8.1>
pect the production in quantities exactly, it is following the four conditions mentioned, it is possible to give in the first operation to the whole casting block a determined section and to keep it in operation, in continuous work, according to the requirements of the quantities in order of each of the semi-finished products and their respective dimensions
<EMI ID = 9.1>
According to the method, of the section, quadrangular for example, <EMI ID = 10.1>
endless belt, but at the same time, one or more round bars, one or more profiles, one or more son are produced. For the explanation of the process, it was assumed that we wanted to make an endless dish and at the same time round irons.
The first rolls are then adjusted so as to obtain a thickness approximately equal to the diameter of the finished bars. Suppose as an example, that we have to make circles of
50 mm and that the casting block has a thickness of 100 mm. The cylinders are then adjusted so that on the first pass
-the block is rolled from 100 mm to 55 mm. The block is thus com- <EMI ID = 11.1>
block has left the cylinders, it is separated by means of appropriate tools, to the width that the plate should have, and the rest is divided into strips 55 mm wide. In this way, bands are formed
<EMI ID = 12.1>
stretching, rolling, or turning, or by any other mechanical operation, in continuous work, and terminated at 50 mm by a subsequent operation. Regardless of this, the flat (the 55 mm thickness continues at the same time without stopping its progression towards the next rolling mill where it is suitably tightened.
Now assuming that the required weight in strips of
<EMI ID = 13.1>
sequence and all the goods are rolled in the first operation to about 45 mm. The strip then enters 8.45 mm in the next rolling train and the bars are again terminated accordingly.
This process can, depending on the section of the casting and the. nature of the metal or alloy worked, to be extended in such a way as to also make it possible, in the same way, to obtain in one go, very thin flats and wires. The whole breakdown obviously depends on the plant's manufacturing schedule at any given time. In any semi-finished factory, however, there are
<EMI ID = 14.1>
according to these that the first lamination should be established.
Figs. 3 and 4 show an example of how the subdivision into bands is done.
<EMI ID = 15.1>
sheets, plates or the like. The remaining partial web can be further reduced and can be provided eg for yarn manufacture.
Figs. IS and 13 show for example how to obtain the subdivision into partial bands. 3a is for example the strip in section, after its first reduction The partial strips 3o and 3d are separated from it by means of the splitting cylinders, of which 3o is used
<EMI ID = 16.1>
and under the same casting conditions.
Apart from the great simplification of the casting installations and the casting operations, this process still has the advantage that any product which leaves the installation, whether it is round, sheet metal, profiles or wires, has previously undergone a deep malleability, of a certain percentage, which, as we know, is of capital importance for all the other qualities of the semi-product. As we are free to choose the primary section as large as we want, this first malleability can be driven very far * -.
/ During the application of the process, the establishment of the production program is obviously carried out in a
that orders for large plates and plates are executed at the same time as orders for large round or square irons.
<EMI ID = 17.1>
ready for the current manufacture of rounds, wires or profiles. In this connection, however, the following should be observed:
To date, rounds, strands and profiles were generally manufactured either by pressing round blocks in hydraulic presses to obtain round bars, profiles or products for the manufacture of tarnished wires then born on appropriate machines, and the length of the final product was in this case conditioned by the capacity of the hydraulic press; or else, they first made casting logs which were passed through the rolling mill; in this case, longer products could be obtained, but they were limited by the weight of the casting block which also, in view of subsequent operations and transport and for technical reasons in casting, only gave limited possibilities.
But since it is now possible, by means of the continuous working rolling process, to fabricate without any difficulty any casting section in any
<EMI ID = 18.1>
simply made to produce a matching endless belt, which will produce endless end products in a seamless operation
end. This possibility being recognized, the idea which immediately comes to mind is to make quite simply in a shell a casting body similar to the desired finished shape and to laminate it continuously to bring it to the size of the finished product. .
In accordance with this idea, one could for example cast a
<EMI ID = 19.1>
if only one casting strip is produced to be worked on, the production is then very reduced in the case of round, profiled
or wires below 60 mm, and a train of machines is needed whose start-up costs are disproportionate to production.
If several similar strips are rolled and rolled, too much production will result if the process is to be remunerative. This process is therefore only recommended when it is desired to produce large quantities of profiles, rounds or wires.
But in practice, it appears more generally that we must manufacture at the same time sheets, plates, bars,
profiles and wires, and the main idea of the invention is
<EMI ID = 20.1>
res, profiles and wires, only with regard to modifications to the shapes and dimensions of the bands of flow.
Finally, it should be noted that the process further simplifies the foundry in that it allows, during major alloy changes, to combine all the orders in the same alloy for all semi-finished products. and that the melting furnaces work continuously, on a single alloy and
<EMI ID = 21.1>
To be able to apply the process without a hitch in all
In this case, it is necessary to provide the facilities for the division of each part, between the corresponding rolling mill trains. Therefore, everywhere or basic bifurcations are needed for the various working methods and for the various types of -products are necessary, provide the separation machines and the corresponding change of direction facilities. An example for the separation of even stronger sections is
