<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
D'autre part, dans le cas de mouvements de dilatation ou de contraction longitudinales des tuyaux l'un par rapport à l'autre, l'anneau 7 roule dans son logement sans que l'étanchéité du joint soit altérée. Si le déplacement lon- gitudinal devient excessif, l'anneau se trouve de plus en plus écrasé par suite du rétreint de 1'emboîtement et simul- b tanément, grâce à la forme concave/ du rétreint de l'emboîte- ment, la composante transversale dirigée vers le fond de l'emboîtement de l'effort de compression augmente rapide- intemp es t ive ment, ce qui rend impossible la sortie de l'anneau hors de l'emboîtement;
Naturellement, l'invention n'est nullement limitée au mode d'exécution représente et décrit qui n'a été choisi qu'à titre d'exemple. C'est ainsi que l'emboîtement 3 peut être obturé au droit-des surfaces 4,5 par une bague-bou- chon, en caoutchouc très tendre ou matière analogue, ayant pour objet d'empêcher l'introduction de corps étrangers entre les deux tuyaux;;

APPLICATION FOR A PATENT OF INVENTION SOCIETE ANONYME DES HAUTS FOURNEAUX ET FONDERIES DE PONT-A-MOUSSCN Advanced assembly for pipes and other pipe parts.
There are known pipe assemblies or other parts made of cast iron, or for want of another material, comprising a sealing ring made of rubber or the like, housed with radial elastic flattening between a male part and a female fitting of the two pipes or parts to. to assemble. This ring is introduced between the two parts during their engagement by simultaneous rolling on these two parts.
In these currently known assemblies, due to surface irregularities and also due to the weight of the male pipe which mainly bears on one side of the ring, the introduction and the flow of this ring
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
on the parts to be assembled, its periphery is not regular; As a result, the ring after assembly has a planar or left oblique shape with respect to the axis of the assembly. This ring is found ': elongated because of its obliquity; its section is reduced accordingly. The result is that it is less resistant to the action of the pressure of the fluid circulating in the pipe and which is exerted on one of the sides of this ring. The latter therefore tends to escape from its housing.
To maintain the ring, we have already had the idea of providing either a constriction at the end of the socket, or a shoulder on the male part, but this arrangement loses part of its effectiveness if the joint takes an oblique position which allows it to escape successively in its different parts by laterally moving the male pipe in the socket.
Finally, if the joint, by virtue of its obliqueness, is not plane, the flexibility of the assembly becomes irregular: in one direction the deviations compromise the tightness of the assembly, in the opposite direction they are hampered. by the joint which is compressed by excess, which increases the fatigue of the elements to be layered.
The present invention relates to an improved assembly of the aforementioned type, remarkable, in particular, in that the elastic ring, deformed between the two parts to be assembled, has, in the position of use, a circumferential tension. much higher than in existing assemblies, this tension, which varies especially according to the diameter of the assembly, being at least 1.1 D kgs, D being the external diameter of the male pipe, expressed in centimeters, C Thus, in the case of a 5 cm male pipe, the minimum tension will be 5.5 kgs while '\ for a 15 cm pipe it will be 16.5 kgs.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The Applicant has observed that thanks to such tension, when the two elements of the assembly are fitted together, the ring previously stretched over the male element rolls uniformly without sliding on this element and in the ring. 'em limp and remains strictly in a plane perpendicular to the axis of the assembly, which eliminates, ipso facto, the aforementioned drawbacks of known assemblies of the same type.
According to another characteristic, the interlocking of one of the two pipes or other parts to be assembled has a narrowed inlet which, in radial section, has a shape that is convex towards the outside and / or concave towards the inside.
A further subject of the invention is, as a new industrial product, a pipe or other pipe element comprising a socket of the aforementioned type.
In the appended drawing, given solely by way of example: fig 1 represents, in longitudinal section, the elements of an assembly according to the invention, before assembly; fig 2 is a similar section after assembly.
According to the example of e @ ecution shown, the invention is applied to the assembly of the ends of the two pipes or other piping elements (fittings for example) 1 and 2. The end of the pipe (or element) 1 is cylinuric, of longitudinal axis XX. The other pipe (or element) 2 ends with a socket 3 of revolution around the longitudinal axis of said pipe. This socket 3 has a narrowed entry which, in radial section, has a convex shape at 4 towards the outside and concave at 5 towards the inside. The surface @ is gradually hooked up to the cylindrical bottom 6 of the socket.
The assembly is completed by a ring 7 of rubber or other similar elastic material. This ring has, at rest, a circular radial section and an inside diameter d less than the outside diameter D of such a sor- @
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
te that this ring is elongated circumferentially (its radial section decreasing) when it is threaded as shown in phantom lines at 7a on the pipe 1. The ratio d varies with the diameter D; it is such that the tendency
Total circumferential dimension of this ring 7 is markedly greater than that of current seals of the same type. This tension varies with the section and the nature of the ring and especially with the diameter D. It is at least equal to 1.1 D kgs, D being expressed in centimeters.
By way of example, for rubber rings of the current quality, having for example a Shore hardness of 40 to 55 and a radial section diameter at rest of 18 mm, the desired result is obtained practically by circumferentially lengthening the ring. ring, by its installation on the male element 1, of a minimum quantity varying by approximately 10% for pipes with an external diameter D of 50 mm; at about 30% for pipes with a diameter D of 150 mm.
The assembly is carried out in the known manner. The ring 7 is first threaded and consequently put under tension at 7a on the male end of the pipe 1. This pipe is then pre-
EMI4.1
felt co 2xially opposite 1 "socket 3 of pipe 2, and pushed into this socket. The ring 7 comes to meet the convex outer face 4 of this socket, and, as a result of its tension which applies it to the pipe 1 In order to prevent its slipping, it rolls without slipping both on this pipe and on the surface 4.
Thanks to the convex shape of this surface, the ring gradually deforms; it collapses elastically which allows it to pass through the reduced annular gap 8, formed between the pipe 1 and the neck of the stub 3. Practically, the radial width of this gap, for rubber rings of the aforementioned quality is approximately 5 mm for rings whose diameter
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
of the radial section after installation on the pipe is for example of the order of 12 mm.
The concave shape 4 according to the invention is advantageous because the longitudinal component of the compressive force of the ring is proportionally smaller as, the ring pmgressing towards the neck 8, this compressive force becomes greater. large, so that this component remains in absolute value constantly lower than the force which would be necessary to cause the sliding of the ring 7 on the pipe 1. This ring therefore remains permanently and strictly in a plane perpendicular to axis XX.
Once the neck 8 has been passed, the ring 7 relaxes slightly while nevertheless retaining a deformation of its section sufficient to ensure a suitable pressure in the socket 5 and on the pipe 1 and consequently the desired tightness (fig. . 2).
Thanks to the fact that the ring has remained plane, its circumferential length is minimum and therefore its maximum cross section for given initial dimensions and deformation, which facilitates its holding. In addition, if, as a result of a non-rectilinear route of the pipe or movements of the ground after laying, the assembly is subjected to a deflection force, the pipe 1 moves freely whatever the angular direction. of the movement inside the ring 7 which rolls in the socket and on the pipe 1 while remaining flat and without its section being reduced: all the advantages of the joint are therefore retained.
This is obviously not the case with known assemblies of the same type, in which, the ring being able to take an oblique position, the deviations between the two pipes introduce variations in the compression of the seal in the directions of these deviations.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
On the other hand, in the case of movements of longitudinal expansion or contraction of the pipes relative to each other, the ring 7 rolls in its housing without the sealing of the joint being altered. If the longitudinal displacement becomes excessive, the ring becomes more and more crushed as a result of the constriction of the socket and at the same time, due to the concave shape / constriction of the socket, the component transverse directed towards the bottom of the socket, the compressive force increases rapidly, inadvertently, which makes it impossible for the ring to exit from the socket;
(Note that the constriction can even end on the concave side with a flat portion 10 perpendicular to the X-X axis which constitutes a particularly effective stop). The fact that the ring is flat is of interest at this time as well. The ring is present, in fact simultaneously, over its entire development, on the surface 5; it is therefore not possible at the various points of its periphery to escape successively, as in the known joints, thanks to a lateral relative displacement of the two pipes.
Naturally, the invention is in no way limited to the embodiment shown and described which was chosen only by way of example. Thus, the socket 3 can be closed to the right of the surfaces 4,5 by a stopper ring, of very soft rubber or similar material, the object of which is to prevent the introduction of foreign bodies between the two pipes ;;
