<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
Première vitesse : pignon 2, pignon 3, accouplement 7, 11, pignon 9, accouplement 13, 19, pignon 15, pignon 14, arbre 20.
Seconde vitesse : pignon 2, pignon 3, accouplement 7, 11, pignon 9, pignon 8, accouplement 12, 18, pignon 14, arbre 20.
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
Troisième vitesse : pignon 2, accouplement 6,10, pignon 8, pignon 9, accouplement 13, 19, pignons 15, pignon 14, arbre 20.
Quatrième vitesse (prise directe) : pignon 2, accouplement 6, 10, pignon 8, accouplement 12,18, pignon 14, arbre 20.
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>

Gear shift mechanism with gears for motor vehicles.
The present invention relates to a gear change mechanism with pinions for motor vehicles.
It provides a main mechanism comprising shafts subdivided into several sections and maneuvering couplings, as well as an additional planetary mechanism mounted in series with the main mechanism and which allows the intercalation of other speeds or transmission stages.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
forming speeds intermediate to those provided by the main mechanism alone. This planetary mechanism is rationally provided with a gear transmission, so that thanks to it, a lower speed can be obtained even at the lowest speed of the main mechanism and which can be used in particular for starting. The planetary mechanism is advantageously placed in front of the main mechanism.
The arrangement of additional mechanisms in motor vehicle gear boots is known particularly in boots which do not have a sufficient number of speeds for normal requirements, or for motor vehicles in which different operating conditions require different numbers of speeds. different revolutions of the engine, for example in the case of idling and fully loaded trucks, for driving in the mountains and driving in level with the same maximum power, etc. There are also gear change mechanisms. speed comprising shafts subdivided into sections. One of the main advantages of these shafts is that they only require the minimum number of gears in operation for a given number of speeds.
The invention creates precisely, by the provision of a main mechanism provided with shafts subdivided into sections and rationally comprising, for example four speeds as usual, and a planetary mechanism, a gearbox forming a low assembly. bulk and allowing a large number of excellently stepped speeds.
Thanks to the construction studied so that the planet gears turn only in a part
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
only speeds, we obtain, contrary to what results from the arrangement of another pair of gears in a usual gearbox, and apart from the smaller size and the greater smoothness of running, this advantage @ that the the main mechanism can be used with the usual graduation, therefore with the usual relatively large skips or jumps from one speed to another, for a mechanism comprising a smaller number of speeds.
The main mechanism itself may have quite the same construction as when only the number of gears of the main mechanism is used. It suffices to provide a flange for the. installation of the planetary mechanism. As a result, important advantages are obtained for manufacturing by ra.pport to what is the case with a main mechanism comprising another pair of pinions which requires a special type of casing or gearbox.
In general, the arrangement is such that the planetary mechanism cannot interpose intermediate speeds relative to those given by the main mechanism except in the lower range of speeds, for example only at the speed. below the first or, where appropriate, between the first and second speeds of the normal mechanism. In higher speeds, new graduations are usually not necessary.
The pinion gear changing mechanism according to the invention is applicable in particular to rail cars actuated by internal combustion engines.
An exemplary embodiment of the object of the invention is shown schematically, mostly in section, in the accompanying drawing.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
The main mechanism is arranged in the common casing, the wall of which is designated by 1, and the planetary mechanism is mounted in series with respect to this main mechanism.
The main mechanism is made up of three pairs of pinions. Each pinion is independently mounted on a particular shaft section or is integral with this shaft section. The two lines of trees are therefore each constituted in this case by three sections of tree.
The first pair of pinions 2,3 bears on the spindles of shafts 4, 5 of the coupling sleeves 6, 7 which can slide, but cannot turn. The second pair of pinions 8,9 has fixed coupling halves 10, 11, 12, 13. The third pair of pinions likewise carries on the spindles 16, 17, coupling sleeves 18,19 which can slide but without being able to turn.
20 designates the receiving shaft. The control torque comes from the planetary mechanism mounted in front and drives the pinion 2. 24, 25 and 26, 27 are double levers, by which the coupling sleeves 6, 7 and 18, 19 are brought into engagement alternately. with the corresponding coupling halves 10, 11 and 12, 13. This is how the various speeds are obtained.
The main mechanism described in the above alone provides the following four speeds:
First gear: pinion 2, pinion 3, coupling 7, 11, pinion 9, coupling 13, 19, pinion 15, pinion 14, shaft 20.
Second gear: pinion 2, pinion 3, coupling 7, 11, pinion 9, pinion 8, coupling 12, 18, pinion 14, shaft 20.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
Third gear: pinion 2, coupling 6,10, pinion 8, pinion 9, coupling 13, 19, pinions 15, pinion 14, shaft 20.
Fourth gear (direct drive): pinion 2, coupling 6, 10, pinion 8, coupling 12,18, pinion 14, shaft 20.
The planetary mechanism mounted in front of the main mechanism comprises a spindle shaft 30, which is housed in the pinion 2 but is prevented from rotating with respect to this pinion by keys and grooves 31, 32. A planetary pinion 33 is mounted in this way. so as to be able to turn on the spindle shaft 30; this pinion 33 comprises a braking surface 34 on which a band brake 35 acts. The spindle shaft 30 is secured to the support 36 of the planet gears.
The corresponding planet gears are designated by 37; they mesh with the planetary pinion 33 and with the ring 38 with internal teeth. The latter is secured to the coupling plate 39 which is mounted so as to be able to rotate with the axis 40 in the planet carrier 36 and in the spindle 30. The coupling plate 39 is connected to the control shaft 41, 44 designates the inner side surface serving as the friction surface of the internal gear ring 38. 45 is a coupling blade which is mounted on the planet carrier 36, so as not to be able to rotate relative to the latter. , but to be able to slide in the axial direction.
Another coupling blade 46 is also mounted on the coupling plate 39 so as not to be able to turn but to be able to slide axially; the pistons 47, which are housed in bores 48, can press against this blade 46. 50, 51, 52 are channels through which pressurized oil or another
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
fluid can be led to the bores 48. 53 is a fixed hollow ring, which closely surrounds the control shaft 41 and in the inner chamber 54 from which the bores 52.55 open is the inlet duct for pressurized oil.
The control shaft 41 receives the torque imparted to it for example by an internal combustion engine.
To obtain a lower number of revolutions than the first normal speed of the main mechanism, as is desirable at starting, and also to obtain intermediate speeds at the four normal speeds described, the brake 35 is applied and therefore the planetary gear 33 is immobilized.
The conduit 55 is withdrawn from the pressure and since no pressurized oil arrives, the pistons 47 do not load the blade 46. The blade 45 can move freely between the blade 46 and the friction surface 44. The planet carrier 36 rotates relative to the coupling plate 39 at a lower speed corresponding to the reduction produced by the rolling of the planet gears 37 against the crown wheel 38 rotating at the number of turns of the control and against the immobilized planetary pinion 33 by the brake.
The torque which drives the planet carrier 36 and is transmitted by the spindle shaft 30, the keys and the grooves 31, 32, is communicated to the pinion 2 of the main mechanism. The number of revolutions is thus multiplied.
If it is now necessary to interpose the next higher gear, the reduction produced in the planetary mechanism is put out of action because the brake 35 is released and the pressurized oil passes through the pipe 55. This pressurized oil passes through the annular chamber 54 and the channels 52, 51, 50 into
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
the bores 48 and press the pistons 47 against the blade 46.
As a result, the blade 45 is immobilized by braking between the blade 46 and the friction surface 44. The planetary mechanism is blocked. The planet carrier 36 and thereby also the pinion 2 receive, via the coupling plate 39, the same number of turns as the control shaft 41.
By the arrangement shown, a total of eight speeds can be obtained. The lower speed is manifested when immobilizing the planetary gear 33 by means of the band brake 35 by the transmission ratio produced in the planetary mechanism in combination with the transmission ratio indicated above of the first gear of the main mechanism .
The second speed is produced after releasing the brake band 35 and pressing the blade coupling, therefore after locking the planetary mechanism; it corresponds exactly to the above-mentioned first speed of the main mechanism.
The third gear is produced by the transmission of the planetary mechanism in combination with the aforementioned transmissions for the second gear of the main mechanism.
The maneuvers are carried out again as for the first gear, so that the blade coupling is. released and the band brake 35 engaged.
The fourth gear is produced after releasing the band brake 35 and engaging the blade coupling, therefore after locking the planetary mechanism by the above-mentioned transmission for the second gear of the main mechanism.
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
The fifth and seventh gears are engaged in the same way as the first and third, while the sixth and eighth gears correspond to the third and fourth gears of the main mechanism.
Unlike the embodiment shown, in which the planetary mechanism is arranged in front of the first pinion 2 of the main mechanism, this planetary mechanism can also be provided at another location, for example behind the pinion 14. In this case, it is possible to have the planetary mechanism more or less inside the pinion 14 and thereby further save space. The planetary mechanism can also be arranged on the auxiliary shaft, for example on the pinion 3. In this case, the planetary mechanism only influences the speeds in which the pair of pinions 2, 3 is used, so in the present case the first and second speeds of the main mechanism.
As emerges from the foregoing, the planetary mechanism provides a particularly simple operating mode in each case between two speeds. By tightening the band brake and releasing the blade coupling, then releasing the band brake and tightening the blade coupling, it is possible to switch in a simple way, for example from the first to the second speed, or from the second to the first speed.
