<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Il suffit d'observer ce qui se passe dans une auto no- bile, une voiture ou un véhicule quand a lieu la fermetnre, totale ou partielle, de l'entrée du mélange explosif dans le moteur, pour reconnaître qu'à cet instant, une entrée d'air additionnel peut procurer une économis d'essence.On a remarqué que si l'on accélère le moteur d'une voiture ou d'un véhicule pour atteindre une certaine vitesse et, qu'ane fois la vitesse désirée obtenue, on coupe ou ferme le gaz totalement ou partiellement, il se produit dans: le véhieule ou la voiture un freinage, avec une perte consécutive de vitesse;

Mr. Ramôn Urgell Sardâ in Barcelona (Spain) Process for reducing the normal consumption of gasoline in internal combustion engines.
The object of the present invention is a method for reducing the normal consumption of gasoline in internal combustion engines, which method is based on a principle completely opposite to that which is used to obtain a reduction in consumption. standard gasoline in the different types of economizers used to date. Indeed, according to the process, object of the present invention, to reduce gasoline consumption in internal combustion engines, the maximum depression is taken advantage of. qud occurs in the inlet pipe or pipe, more specifically from the negative pressure following the closing (cut) of the gases.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
It is known that the depression existing along the gas inlet pipe in internal combustion engines reaches its. maximum value when the throttle valve of the carburetor is closed, ie it occupies the slow or idle position; it is also known that this depression decreases as the throttle opens, and that it reaches a minimum when the shutter or throttle is in its maximum open position.
It suffices to observe what happens in a noble automobile, a car or a vehicle when the total or partial closure of the entry of the explosive mixture into the engine takes place, to recognize that at that moment, an additional air intake can save gasoline. It has been noticed that if you accelerate the engine of a car or a vehicle to reach a certain speed and, once the desired speed is obtained, the gas is completely or partially cut or closed, braking occurs in: the vehicle or car, with a consequent loss of speed;
however, if, when cutting or igniting the gas supply to the engine in whole or in part, an additional air inlet is opened to the engine, the braking of the car is canceled and this continues. its running as if it were disengaged or turned on the free gear - although it is engaged - at the same time that there is bound to be an economy of fuel.
The method forming the subject of the present invention consists essentially in supplying the engine with a determined additional quantity of air, between the throttle valve of the carburettor and the engine, during the entire closing stroke of the throttle, and in instantaneously stopping and completely this addition of complementary air to the engine, when the carburetor throttle comes to occupy its normal position corresponding to the slow running of the empty engine.
For the practical realization of the process, object of
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
the invention, that is to say to supply additional air to the engine between the carburetor throttle and the engine during the. closing the throttle, one can use whatever mechanism, apparatus or device is considered most appropriate; the invention does not extend to any particular kind of mechanism, apparatus or device, but only to the process capable of being practically applied by various means. The apparatus, mechanism or device may be disposed between the carburetor and the intake pipe or may form an integral part of the carburetor; in this case, the additional air inlet to the engine is always made between the carburetor throttle and the engine.
In accordance with the process, the additional air inlet to the engine is obtained by causing this additional air inlet by the throttle control or by the throttle control of the carburetor, so that air is injected into the engine during the stroke of the carburetor throttle, between its maximum opening and the maximum position. engine running slowly, this additional air inlet to the engine closing when the throttle reaches the position corresponding to the slow running of the greedy engine.
This control of the additional air inlet according to the present method can be carried out as follows: a) by opening the additional air inlet to the engine; between the throttle valve of the carburetor and the engine, at the beginning of the closing of the throttle valve of the carburetor, increasing this air intake as the throttle closes, closing the additional air intake to the engine abruptly, at the 'instant when the throttle reaches the position corresponding to the slow running of the empty engine.
b) by opening the additional air inlet to the engine, between the carburettor throttle and the engine, at the start of the opening of the carburettor throttle, keep
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
this air inlet during the entire throttle closing stroke, abruptly closing the additional air inlet when the throttle reaches the position which corresponds to the slow running of the empty engine.
c) by opening an additional air inlet to the engine, between the carburetor throttle and the engine, at the beginning of the throttle opening, which air inlet is made ... e when the throttle closes , and by opening another additional air opening, between the carburetor throttle and the engine, at the beginning of the throttle closing, which air intake is maximum when the throttle is near the maximum running position engine idle, by instantly closing the two additional air inlets when the throttle reaches the corresponding position 5. slow engine idling.
As goes without saying, and as moreover already emerges from what precedes, the invention is in no way limited by the details of embodiment described; nor by those of the embodiments of the various parts which have been more specially indicated; on the contrary, it encompasses all the variants which do not influence its essential characteristic - which is none other than to inject a certain quantity of additional air into the engine, between the carburetor throttle and the engine, during the stroke. throttle closing, additional air injection which is abruptly interrupted when the throttle reaches the position corresponding to the slow arc of the empty engine.
