<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Fig.3 montre trois tamis superposés, agités vive- ment par une transmission à came.

A method and apparatus for sifting, screening or sorting using vibratory sieve bodies per se.
The present invention relates to a process for sifting, screening or sorting materials, more particularly ores. We already know specially shaped sieves where the different meshes are formed of parts joined together by articulation, so that when the sieve receives an impulse from the outside, the meshes move relative to each other so that they do not not close. Devices are also known in which scraper arms are led on a perforated plate, thereby effecting material sorting by pushing the relatively thin parts through the holes, and sliding sideways to finally fall off the parts. coarser.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Finally, types of mesh are known which are kept open by means of an arrangement whereby the screen is lifted vertically with respect to the mesh, at a point suitably chosen for this purpose, to then fall abruptly.
The present invention starts from vibratory sieve bodies per se, and it achieves on the one hand the passage of materials and on the other hand a continuous release of the meshes, by an arrangement according to which a series of members , provided on a pulling apparatus which moves relative to the screen fabric, directly or indirectly exert a peeling action on the various meshes or parts of the surface of said fabric.
Rapid screening with continuously open meshes could, for example, be obtained by means of a device in which the stripping or peeling members are formed by rods, placed on an auxiliary sieve of the nature of 'a warp fabric; these rods then act, either directly on the working sieve proper, or on counter-members rigidly attached to the meshes of this sieve and projecting at the top or bottom.
The accompanying drawings schematically show different devices for carrying out the process:
Fig. 1 shows in elevation a working sieve provided with peeling members, with stripping cylinders or peelers installed below.
Fig. 2 shows a mesh screen which is provided with stripping members, and below which is mounted a stripping bar, set in motion back and forth by rotating cranks.

Fig. 3 shows three superimposed screens, agitated vigorously by a cam transmission.
Fig.4 shows three more superimposed screens, to which a drive rod actuated alternately by compressed air, communicates a jerky movement.
In Figure 1, a is a loading hopper, b a mounting frame, a screen and the material to be screened; e is an unloading hopper. f are rods which are struck by the corre- sponding rods m of the rotary peeling cylinders 1, so that the sieve d vibrates; g, h, i, p and n are control devices.
According to FIG. 2, rods o, attached to the mesh screen d1, are held in rapid striking motion by the bar s, provided with corresponding rods q and actuated by the crank r; g, h, i and k are control units.
According to Figure 3, the superimposed screens are set in vibratory movement by means of the cam rod t, x, subjected to the action of the spring W; at the places where the rod intersects the sieves d, it has spherical swellings v which are housed freely in the corresponding shaped bushes u, arranged in the sieves; a rotary cam there abruptly lifts at each turn the rod t by its cam x, and lets it fall again, thus imparting the desired vibratory movement to the sieves. g, h, i and k are here again the members which control the movement of the cam y.
According to Figure 4, the superimposed screens d are further set in vibratory movement by the rod t; with each up and down movement, the bulges v
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
of this rod are pulled sharply through the corresponding spring-loaded eyes ul of the screens, and these therefore vibrate continuously. The rod t can be controlled by two small compressed air cylinders o1 and o2 with pistons z and zl. In all of the systems described above, the control of the vibratory movement of the sieves can be effected by an electromagnet.
The screen can also be constructed so that it can be used for processing ores or other materials. In this case, the construction is made in such a way that the heaviest metal grains and which must be thrown higher, will be thrown through a screen provided with slits. In this way, these grains are diverted by gutters and thus separated from the non-metallic sieved material which in turn is carried further by the sieve.
