<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
détermine l'ouverture de celui-ci et par suite l'échappement de l'eau par la conduite 32. la section d'écoulement du clapet 22 étant suffisamment grande, par rapport à la section de la conduite 32, réglée par le robinet qui y est intercalé, l'eau s'écoule hors de la poche 2 par la conduite 32 et la soupape 8 se ferme instantanément;

The present intention relates to an air compressor, operated by means of a pressurized fluid, intended mainly for the brewery, for the distribution of compressed air under constant pressure for the withdrawal of beers.
This apparatus is, however, also applicable in the majority of cases where use is currently made of carboys! compressed air, for example for the projection of coloring matters by means of dry air or for all other applications.
Its object is to provide an apparatus of this type of a particularly simple construction, capable of operating automatically without the aid of floats and having the essential advantage of avoiding any contact between the motor fluid and the air or other fluid. to compress.
With a view to achieving this aim, the apparatus which is the subject of the invention is essentially characterized by a reservoir containing a pocket, made of rubber or other similar material, into which a working fluid is introduced under pressure, the filling of this pocket with this fluid having the effect of determining the compression of the air or other gas contained in the reservoir

and to cause, after delivery of the air to the desired pressure, the establishment of a pressure imbalance determining the automatic closing of a member controlling the admission of the motor fluid into the rubber bag.
In the practical realization of the invention; the admission of pressurized fluid and its interruption, after each operation, are obtained by cooperation with the aemission member, an exhaust valve integral with a piston moving in a sealed chamber, such that, when a determined pressure is reached in the device, the exhaust valve opens automatically to allow part of the working fluid to flow out until the pressure in the When the appliance has dropped below a determined limit, the distributor unit opens again automatically, causing the exhaust valve to close simultaneously,
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, in vertical section, an apparatus constructed according to the invention.
The apparatus shown comprises a reservoir 1, inside which is fixed a rubber bag 2 which can match the almost complete capacity of the reservoir 1. This bag 2, which forms a watertight seal, at its lower part, with a bottom 3 is suspended at its upper part, in the axis of the tank, at a point 4, from a plate 5 oscillating around pins 6 fixed to the wall of the tank. when the pocket 2 is empty, it comes to rest, in its lower part, on a perforated partition 7 having an appropriate convex shape.
The plate 5, the diameter of which is slightly less than the diameter of the tank 1, so as to leave a certain passage between its periphery and the wall of the tank 1 carries a valve 8 normally closing an opening 9 made in the cover 10 closing the tank at its upper part.
This cover has, on the other hand, a normal closed opening 11. ment by a valve 12 loaded by a spring. This valve 12 is housed in a chamber 13 to which the compressed air delivery pipe 14 is connected leading to a reservoir, or to the place of use of the pressurized air.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The cover 10 also has a series of air inlet openings 15, normally closed by a rubber valve 16 having a certain resistance to the entry of air through the openings 15.
The bottom 3 of the reservoir 1 is provided with an inlet pipe 17 for a pressurized fluid, preferably water, and this pipe, which is provided with a shut-off valve (not shown ) ends, inside the perforated partition 7 ′ by a nozzle 18 in which moves a distributor piston 19 having a groove 20 allowing the flow of the pressurized liquid admitted by the pipe 17 when the piston 19 moves. is in its upper position shown in the drawing. The piston 19 is assembled at 21 with a valve 22 provided with a gasket surface 23, made of rubber for example closing an opening 24 formed in a false bottom 25. This valve 22 forms,
on the other hand a piston 26 moving in a cylindrical part 27 sealed under the piston 26 by a rubber pocket 28. The chamber 29, thus formed under the piston 26, is in communication by a pipe 50, of balance pressure, with the upper part of the reservoir 1, above the plate 5. Finally, the chamber 31, formed between the false bottom 25 and the piston 26, is connected to an exhaust pipe 32, of suitable section, or, preferably, provided with a valve for regulating the flow of water. This pipe 32 has a certain height and is immersed in a water tank, not shown, so as to create, along its height, a suction column of a determined intensity.
The apparatus described operates as follows:
If we assume the device properly primed by filling dela bag 2 by any means, for example by filling with water when the tank is in an inverted position, the bag 2, after recovery and assembly of the device, will be devoid of air and will empty of water in column 32 until the bag has been applied to the perforated partition 7. At this time,
the vacuum created in chamber 31 will cause the piston to rise
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
26 in the chamber 27 and consequently the closing of the valve 22 and the opening of the intake member 19. The water entering the pocket through the duct 17 and the channel 20 of the piston 19 determines the application. of the latter against the wall of the tank 1 as shown in the drawing in solid lines. By the same token, the air contained in the tank 1 will be returned through the opening 11, overcoming the action of the spring acting on the valve 12 controlling the discharge of the air towards the storage tank.
The pocket 2, being fully developed, the plate 5, acting as a lever, oscillates on. its pivots 6 and determines the opening of the valve 8. If one takes into account the fact that, until this moment, the compressed air in the reservoir p acted, through the pipe 30 in the chamber 29 and kept the udder 26 raised and consequently the distributor piston 19 in its position. open position, the opening of the valve 8 has the effect of determining the exhaust through the opening 9 of the compressed air contained in the upper part of the reservoir 1, and, consequently, to create in the chamber 29 decreases the pressure so that the weight of the water, contained in the pocket, joins the action of the pressure of the water, which continues to arrive through the pipe 17, on the valve 22,
determines the opening of the latter and consequently the escape of water through the pipe 32. the flow section of the valve 22 being sufficiently large, with respect to the section of the pipe 32, regulated by the valve which is inserted therein, the water flows out of the pocket 2 through line 32 and the valve 8 closes instantly;
the pocket is then applied to the perforated partition 7 while its upper part sags as shown in the drawing in dotted lines. the sagging of the pocket causes, on the other hand, a suction of the outside air through the orifices 15 after lifting the valve 16 - this suction also being felt in the pipe 30 ensures that the valve 22 is held in position. opening and the escape of water through line 32 until the moment when under the action of the depression due to the suction column and created by stopping the escape of water , the di stri-

striker 19 is again lifted by piston 26 and returned to the open position,
thus giving rise to a new admission of pressurized water into the tank while the exhaust valve 22 closes. As a result, the operation of the apparatus is fully automatic and that it can act as an automatic pressure regulator ensuring the maintenance in the compressed air tank connected to the pipe 14 of a constant pressure substantially equal to the pressure. water acting as motor fluid.
