BREVET D'INVENTION Pour : PERFECTIONNEMENT AUX TROMMELS DE TRIAGE PERFORES.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

DESCRIPTIVE MEMORY filed in support of a request for
PATENT OF INVENTION For: IMPROVEMENT IN PERFORATED SORTING TROMMELS.
Subject to an invention patent filed in France on October 26, 1926, N 623.8686
The present invention relates to rotating perforated trom- mela used for sorting all materials.
The inventor has found that the efficiency of a trommel of this kind was increased in unexpected proportions by producing inside, by means of a current of air, a vigorous stirring of the material, so that until 'here the ventilation of the material when it is used to complete the action of the trommel,
is produced outside of this trommel @
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Preferably the trommel will be surrounded by an enclosure for example formed of sheet metal so as to prevent dust from spreading into the atmosphere and to produce eddies in the ventilation air *
The present invention will find its particular application in the sorting of slush. Certain devices intended for this use include an oscillating grid on which the slush arrives and which is subjected to the action of an air current.
If a ventilated trommel conforming to that of the invention is interposed between the arrival of the slush and the grid and if the trommel is rotated at a sufficient speed (for example 80 revolutions per minute) so that the centrifugal force acts on the material to disintegrate it without sticking it on the walls of the trommel, we see that we obtain from the exit of the trommel a very rigorous classification: the ashes are evacuated by the perforations of the sheets, the heavy waste (stones , etc ....) fall at the end of the trommel, in an empty space that we have taken care to spare between it and the grid; the putrescible parts pass through the grid and the papers and light waste of the same kind, travel further still and are evacuated beyond the grid.
An embodiment of the present invention applied to the separation of slushes into their elements has been described below by way of example and shown in the appended drawing in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation,
Figure 2 is a plan view,
And figure 3 is a section through the trommel along the line X Y of fig. 1.
The slush arrives through a chute 1 in the perforated trommel 2. This trommel is of the type without spider
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
so as not to interfere with the movements of matter. It has circles 3, 3, rolling on rollers 4.
It is actuated by a belt 5 controlled by a pulley 6 set in rotation by any motor * The trommel is enclosed in a sheet metal enclosure 6 'comprising at its lower part chutes 7. Below the chute 1 opens a pipe 8 bringing in the air current.
Between the trommel 2 and the oscillating grid 9 is an empty space. Below the grid is a slide 11
If we bring in the slush and air and turn the trommel at 80 rpm, for example, we see that the classification of materials is done automatically. Through the chutes 7 the ashes fall 12 Heavy waste (stones, pieces of metal, etc.) are evacuated between the trommel and the grid in 13 The putrescible parts, which fall on the grid 9 come in 14 in s' flowing on the slide 11.
Finally, the papers, lighter, cross the grid and are evacuated from behind at 15.,
