<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Additive for explosives and explosives.
The object of the present invention is the constitution of a product intended to be added to explosives, especially based on ammonium nitrate or nitrated hydrocarbons with the aim of increasing the detonation temperature, consequently the aptitude for detonation and of allow complete combustion of the explosive with suppression of fumes.
The product according to the invention can be mixed with most explosives and mainly with mine explosives which, as is known, are based on ammonium nitrate or nitrated hydrocarbons.
These explosives based on nitrated hydrocarbons do not manage to burn completely and it is with the aim of remedying this defect that certain manufacturers provide oxidants and reducing agents comprising in particular aluminum.
With the aim of ensuring the complete combustion of the products constituting the explosive, the present invention proposes to reduce the proportion of nitrated hydrocarbons contained in the explosives and even to eliminate these completely and to provide a rich body ' in oxygen with a

easily combustible organic reducing agent, rich in carbon, with or without the addition of a metallic reducing agent.
For this purpose the adduct, according to the invention, comprises strong oxidants such as chlorate, manganate, permanganate, chromate, nitrate.
EMI2.1
with an organic reducing agent such as sugar, starch or hydrogen carbide with or without the addition of aluminum.
The invention also relates to the constitution of explosives comprising among their constituent elements those of the adduct according to the invention.
The proportions of the elements entering into the adduct and the explosives specified below are given by way of example and not by way of limitation.
The adduct, according to the invention, may consist of a mixture in the following proportions of:
EMI2.2
1 to 6% d3 organic reducing agent (sugar, friendl-on -or C42, - de P, d: hydrogen carbide, -7%
6 to 20.5% oxidizer with the addition of aluminum in the proportion of 0.5 to 3% the whole ground and mixed in an alcoholic solution of manila gum, shellac or permaceti (whale white) or dissolution of gomma damar.
The oxidizing salt and the reducing agent are first crushed and mixed thoroughly. The dissolution is brought in while the mechanical stirring is taking place. The product is dried and then finely pulverized.
The explosives, according to the invention, can consist either of:
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
68.5 to 82% ammonia nitrate
9.5 to 20.5% of the addition product according to the invention with
8.5 to 15% trinitro toluol, trinitro aniline or other hydrocarbons' neither very or
18 to 27% of the product according to the invention
73 to 82% nitrate, ammonia or even
63.5 to 65.5% ammonia nitrate
20 to 18.5% of trinitro toluol 16.5% of product according to the invention.
The adduct, according to the invention, is water-repellent and can be stored indefinitely. It can be added to all explosives and especially to mine explosives, the intimate mixture with hydrocarbons, nitro cellulose etc ... can be used for military uses (large caliber weapons and grenades).
Added to mine explosives, the product according to the invention increases the power and the aptitude for detonation, the charge in the mineholes, however strong it may be, completely detonates which avoids the minnows.
The explosives according to the invention, based on this adduct have this particularity among high explosives that they break more clearly without crushing.
