Connection piece for wall profiles.
The present invention relates to a connecting piece for wall profiles.
More specifically, the present invention relates to a connecting piece for wall profiles provided with a tongue and groove for connecting the wall profiles to each other in the longitudinal direction to form a wall, for example in the form of a wall, ceiling, partition wall or of such.
It is known that for the manufacture of a wall plastic wall profiles are often used, wherein adjacent wall profiles can be coupled to each other along the longitudinal direction by means of a tooth groove connection and wherein the coupled wall profiles are fixed to a substructure, for example by fixing them to screw or glue.
A drawback that is encountered when installing such wall profiles is that wall profiles arranged in line with each other are not connected to each other at their ends.
Often, therefore, only wall profiles of a full wall length are used, wherein each wall profile is sawn off to the required wall length and the remaining part is disposed of as waste, with the disadvantageous consequence that a lot of material is lost.
On the other hand, when the smallest dimension of the wall or ceiling is greater than the length of a wall profile, different wall profiles must necessarily be provided in line with each other.
Installing wall profiles in line with each other requires extreme precision when cutting the length of the wall profiles and usually a small gap can therefore be observed at the connection between two consecutive wall profiles that are arranged in line with each other, with the result that the aesthetic finish of the ceiling or wall often leaves something to be desired.
An additional disadvantage is that, due to the lack of a connection between the end faces, the aforementioned small opening can increase considerably due to shrinkage of the wall profiles.
The present invention has for its object to provide a solution to one or more of the aforementioned and other disadvantages.
To this end the present invention relates to a connecting piece for wall profiles, more particularly wall profiles which are provided with a tongue and groove for connecting the wall profiles to each other in the longitudinal direction, wherein the connecting piece is provided with coupling parts which can cooperate with the end ends of the wall profiles in order to be able to connect wall profiles arranged in line with each other.
An advantage of a connecting piece for wall profiles according to the invention is that the wall profiles with their adjacent end ends can easily be coupled to each other, whereby, on the one hand, a strong connection and, on the other hand, a more aesthetic finish is obtained.
Another advantage of the invention is that less material is lost when the wall is placed, because wall profiles with a shorter length no longer have to be disposed of as waste, but can be recovered to supplement certain wall profiles in length.
According to a preferred embodiment, a connecting piece according to the invention is provided with a central part on which the aforementioned coupling parts are provided, said central part having a thickness greater than the thickness of the coupling parts, to form a stop for inserting the connecting part in the wall profiles to be connected.
An advantage of this embodiment of a connecting piece according to the invention is that, due to the stop, accidental incorrect assembly is prevented.
According to yet another preferred embodiment, the central part of the connecting piece is also profiled.
An advantage of this embodiment is that the central part of the connecting piece remains visible when it is used to connect two wall profiles, the aforementioned profiling being able to be carried out in such a way that an appearance at the end ends of two wall profiles is not, as far as the view is concerned, differs noticeably from an assembly in the longitudinal direction of the wall profiles.
With the insight to better demonstrate the characteristics of the invention, a few preferred embodiments of a connecting piece according to the invention are described below as an example without any limiting character with reference to the accompanying figures, in which:
Figure 1 represents a connecting piece according to the invention in perspective; figures 2 and 3 represent wall profiles that can be coupled to each other by means of connecting pieces according to figure 1, before and after assembly respectively; figure 4 represents a section on a larger scale along the line IV-IV in figure 2; figures 5 to 7 show cross-sections along the lines V-V, VI-VI and VII-VII in figure 1; figures 8 to 12 represent variants of figure 7.
As shown in figures 1 to 3, the invention relates to a connecting piece 1 with which wall profiles 2 can be connected to each other at their end ends 3.
Such wall profiles 2 are generally known and they are, as in the example shown, generally provided on two opposite longitudinal sides 4 and 5 with a groove 8 and a tooth 9 respectively, which extend in the longitudinal direction of the wall profile.
2.
As is shown in detail in Figures 2, 3 and more in detail in Figure 4, wall profiles 2 can be coupled to each other along the aforementioned opposite longitudinal sides 4 and 5 by cooperating a groove 6 and a tooth 7 of two adjacent wall profiles 2 .
In the embodiment shown, the wall profiles 2 are also hollow, wherein these hollow wall profiles 2 are compartmentalized by partitions 8 in the longitudinal direction.
In order to be able to connect such known wall profiles 2 in line with each other at their end ends 3, according to the invention a connecting piece 1 is provided, wherein this connecting piece 1 comprises coupling parts 9 which can cooperate with the end ends 3 of the wall profiles 2.
Because in the example shown the known wall profiles 2 are of hollow design, the coupling parts 9 of the connecting piece 1 are male coupling parts 9 which can each be slidably fitted or clamped into a cavity at a head end 3 of a wall profile 2.
In particular, the male coupling parts 9 consist of teeth 10 which can be fitted or clamped into the corresponding cavities 11 which are bounded by the compartments at a head end 3 of a wall profile 2.
As shown in more detail in Figure 5, the teeth 10 have a substantially U-shaped cross-section 12 for this purpose, but of course other shapes, such as for instance rectangular cross-sections, are not excluded.
These teeth 10 are preferably also slightly conical in order to obtain a better adhesion between a connecting piece 1 and the wall profiles 2.
The connecting piece 1 is further also provided with a central part 13 on which the aforementioned teeth 10 are provided.
This central portion 13 has a thickness D that is greater than the thickness D 'of the teeth 10, as is shown in figures 5 and 6, so that a stop 14 is obtained for inserting the connecting piece 1 into the wall profiles 2 to be coupled .
Furthermore, the length L of the central portion 13 of the connecting piece 1 is equal to or substantially equal to the width B of a wall profile 2 and, in the example shown, the height H of the aforementioned stop 14 is also equal to the wall thickness H 'of a wall profile 2.
In the embodiment shown, the central portion is
13 with a flat outer surface 15, as is clearly shown in the cross-section of Figure 7.
The use of a connecting piece 1 for wall profiles 2 according to the invention is very simple and as follows.
The teeth are used for connecting two wall profiles 2 which are arranged in line with each other
10 of a first coupling part 9 of a connecting piece 1 according to the invention is inserted into a first wall profile 2, whereafter the teeth 10 of the other coupling part 9 of the connecting piece are pushed into the second wall profile 2.
Thus the intended objectives are achieved, namely that
wall profiles can easily be coupled to each other along the longitudinal direction, whereby on the one hand, a strong connection and, on the other hand, a more aesthetic finish is obtained.
Many alternative forms for the embodiment of a connecting piece according to the invention discussed so far are possible, some of which are shown in Figures 8 to 12.
For example, it is possible to profile the central part 13 of the connecting piece 1, in order, for example, to obtain the appearance or effect as a connecting seam between two wall profiles 2 coupled in the longitudinal direction.
Such profiling can be formed, for example, by a groove 16 or a rib 17 extending over the length L of the central portion 13 of the connecting piece 1.
In the examples shown, the grooves are provided
16 or ribs 17 V-shaped or round, but other shapes are of course not excluded.
Another possibility is, for example, to vary the width E or E 'of the central portion 13.
Although the coupling parts 9 are designed as male coupling parts 9, it is likewise not excluded to design the coupling parts 9 as female coupling elements which can be slid over the end faces 3 of the wall profiles 2 in order to enable two wall profiles 2 arranged in line with each other. to connect.
The present invention is by no means limited to the embodiments described as examples and shown in the figures, but such a connecting piece for wall profiles can be realized in all shapes and sizes without departing from the scope of the invention.
