Zie patent DE Nr IT 1173984 uitvinder Monnet, Robert
Nadelen:

Title: Gear in an alloy in which aluminum is dominant, front, for motorcycle, with ceramic coating.
Technical field of the invention:
Sprocket for chain drive for motorcycle, at the front at the power source.
State of the art:
The rear sprockets in chain transmission, that is to say the sprockets on which the force is transmitted, that is to say those located at the wheels, have been made of aluminum alloys for several years. This is because it is desired to achieve as much weight reduction as possible and since the service life of the rear sprockets is considerably longer than the service life of the front sprockets. Compared to the usual iron alloys, the weight saving achieved with equal dimensioning in the case of quasi-pure aluminum alloy is about 50-70%.
However, nowadays the aim is to make motorcycles as light as possible, since the lighter the motorcycle, the less power is required and the better the performance. In the past, attempts have been made to save as many materials as possible through the design of the gear in order to reduce the weight. See patent DE No. IT 1173984, inventor Monnet, Robert
Cons:
The problem that arises when replacing the front gears in an iron alloy with lighter alloys in which aluminum is dominant is that the wear resistance of these materials is too low. After all, the force exerted on the teeth of the front sprocket by the transmission chain is much higher than the force exerted on the teeth of the rear sprocket.
The invention:
This invention consists in that the front sprocket, which in the current state of the art is manufactured in an iron alloy because, due to the high wear load, aluminum alloys do not suffice, is made in an aluminum alloy, preferably a 7075 alloy. This results in a considerable weight saving, which is approximately 50-70%.
In order to increase the wear resistance, the surface and any internal splinting or key connection that serves to attach and force transfer to the shaft is provided with a PEO ceramic layer such that the service life, the service life of iron alloys approximates or exceeds.
Benefits:
The advantage of this invention is the large weight saving coupled with the high wear resistance.
Optimal implementation:
The gears that are used in principle have the traditional design. In principle, they do not need to be dimensioned differently. They are preferably manufactured from aluminum 7075 alloy.
A ceramic coating is then applied with the PEO process. Where PEO stands for Plasma Electric Oxidation. The application of the layer is preferably effected by immersion in a liquid coupled to electrolysis. Only by means of PEO is molecular adhesion obtained that forms a continuous layer and is highly corrosion-resistant and very durable.
