Abstract

The implant comprises a cage made from carbon fibre-reinforced PEEK and provided with titanium rods (3) at each end and with trapezoidal teeth (2) and fixing holes (5). A medical implant used in cervical surgery for replacing a vertebra comprises a cage made from a carbon fibre-reinforced polyether-etherketone (PEEK) composite. The proximal and distal ends of the cage have trapezoidal teeth for anchoring in the adjacent vertebrae. A titanium rod is provided at each end of the implant so that it can be seen in x-rays. The cage has a hollow structure (4) and contains holes for fixing parts. The length of the cage corresponds to the length of the removed vertebra.

   Beschriiving

   Description
WINDOW FOR WORK BODY REPLACEMENT IN POLYETHERETER KETONE.

The Ti-PEEK CORPUS REPLACEMENT cage is a medical implant for use in cervical surgery (1). The implant consists of a composite material whose components are on the one hand a polyether-ether ketone matrix and on the other hand a carbon fiber reinforcement. The elasticitaits modulus of the Ti-PEEK CORPUS REPLACEMENT cage is almost the same as that of cortical bone.

The implant has a proximal and distal contact end face that is covered with trapezoidal protrusions (2) that attach to the adjacent vertebral bodies like teeth. The Ti-PEEK CORPUS REPLACEMENT implant is radiolucent. In order to make the RX visible, it contains a Titanium rod (3) on each end. The Ti-PEEK CORPUS REPLACEMENT implant has a hollow (4) structure and fixing holes (5) for attachment.

The length of the implant corresponds to the length (6) of the vertebral column removed.
