<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

FLUID INJECTOR FOR TRAINING AND MAINTENANCE
FLUIDIZED BED
The present invention relates to a fluid injector for forming and maintaining a fluidized bed in an enclosure, an injector comprising a central fluid supply tube and the upper part of which has a series of orifices for the outlet of the fluid, the tube being capped with a cap fixed to the tube and comprising a lateral skirt surrounding the drilled tube to prevent the penetration of the material of the fluidized bed into the tube.
Such injectors are used in boiler or waste incinerator installations for injecting, from the bottom, under pressure, gas for the fluidization of fuel and materials to be burned. Until now, the caps which covered the gas supply tubes had a cylindrical shape and their base had an internal thread to be screwed onto a corresponding thread of the tubes. The caps had, in addition, at their base, above the thread, a lining of individual openings to allow the exit of the fluidizing gas. Given the abrasive nature of the material forming the fluidized bed, generally sand, the mixing of the material and the vortices which are generated at the outlet of the gases from the injectors, there has been very high wear of the caps at the openings. Release.
This wear enlarges these openings and ends up completely eliminating the partitions between the adjacent openings, which means that the caps are no longer held and are ejected. Their replacement obviously requires stopping the boiler and its complete emptying.
The object of the present invention is to provide an improved injector which has a significantly longer service life than known injectors.
To achieve this objective, the present invention provides an injector of the type described in the preamble which is essentially characterized in that the lower edge of the skirt defines with the wall of the tube an annular opening for the outlet of the pressurized fluid.
The skirt of the cap preferably has a frustoconical shape diverging downwards.
The cap can be fixed by welding on the head of the tube.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The base of the tube is preferably surrounded by an annular washer of steel or of material resistant to high temperatures, the outside diameter of which is at least equal to that of the lower edge of the cap.
Other features and characteristics of the invention will emerge from the detailed description of an advantageous embodiment presented below, by way of illustration, with reference to the appended drawings in which: - Figure 1 schematically shows an axial section through a known injector and - Figure 2 schematically shows an axial section through an injector according to the present invention.
Figure 1 shows a known injector such as those used to line the bottom of a boiler or a waste incinerator to maintain a fluidized bed by injecting gas under pressure. The injector essentially comprises a tube 10 which emerges from the bottom of a boiler. The head of the tube 10 is closed, but the upper part of the tube is lined laterally with a series of orifices 12 allowing the fluidizing gas to exit. To prevent penetration of the material of the fluidized bed into the orifices 12, the tube 10 is capped with a cap 14 in the form of a socket. This cap 14 has, at its open base, an internal thread 16 which allows it to be screwed onto a corresponding thread of the rod 14. To allow the outlet of the fluidizing gas, the cap has, at its base, above thread 16, a set of holes 18.
As mentioned in the introduction, significant abrasion wear occurs at these openings 18. This wear fairly quickly causes the disappearance of the wall of the cap between the adjacent openings to thereby release the upper part of the cap.
To remedy this phenomenon, the invention provides an injector of the type shown in FIG. 2. This injector also includes a tube 20 comparable to the tube 10 in FIG. 1, provided with a series of orifices 22 for the outlet of the gas. The tube 20 is capped with a cap 24 which this time is in the shape of a bell with a dome 26 and a frustoconical side skirt 28 which diverges downwards. The cap 24 is made solitary of the tube 20 for example by a weld between the dome 26 and the head of the tube 20 or by screwing. The flared skirt 28 thus defines with the tube 20 an annular opening which allows the gas to escape downwards while preventing
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
the material of the fluidized bed to enter the tube 20.
The degree of flaring of the skirt is adapted to the flow rate of the fluidizing gas. Since the gas is directed vertically towards the bottom of the enclosure, it is preferable to provide around the tube 20, below the cap 28, a protective washer of refractory steel or ceramic, as shown at 30.
An injector as proposed by the invention achieves a service life which is of the order of two to four times longer than that of known injectors.
