A soil bio-mediation support tool for the remediation of soils.
It is a supplement product that is used in the remediation of 5 contaminated soils. Biosol is a supplement product that is mixed with organically contaminated soils. The incorporation of the aggregate product improves the conditions in the soil for the gradual, microbiological cleaning of the contaminated soil.
A large number of sites have been contaminated with all kinds of chemicals due to the presence of industrial activities such as pesticides, fuels (petrol, diesel), oils, solents. In the future, as stipulated in the Soil Decree (BS, 22/02/95), it will be necessary to remediate these sites.
The conventional technologies of landfill and incineration are being used less and less to remediate such soils. New techniques that are aimed at the degradation and detoxification of pollutants are increasingly being applied. Bioremediation, the use of micro-organisms and micro-robot processes for the degradation of pollutants, is such a new technology. Biosol is a supplement product that is incorporated into the polluted soil. The aggregate product has a structure-improving effect on the soil and an activating influence on the soil micro-organisms. Due to these improved conditions, the pollutants will be immobilized and broken down as a result of physical, chemical and biological processes in the soil.
The contaminated sites usually contain a complete mixture of organic pollutants. In addition, the concentration of pollutants on the site can still vary greatly. In addition to the heterogeneity of the pollutants, the matriks can also be very diverse. It is therefore important to apply a methodology that remains applicable under very different circumstances. The incorporation of the supplement product, Biosol, which can be seen as a kind of 'landfarming process', therefore fits perfectly into this framework.

Biosol is a supplement product that can primarily increase the sorption capacity of the contaminated soil. Biosol consists for a large part of sorptive material. This material has a large specific surface on which the adsorption and absorption of pollutants can take place. The polluting components are thereby captured and immobilized, so that they no longer pose a potential eco-toxicological hazard to the environment in the broad sense of the word. As a result of the immobilisation, the necessary time is allocated for the gradual micro-degradation of the bio-available pollutants.
The most successful application of bioremediation is to stimulate the activity of the microorganisms already present, and the success of this method of soil remediation depends directly on the activity of the microorganisms present. It is therefore very important to optimize the circumstances in which the microbial degradation takes place. The aggregate product, Biosol, has a structure-enhancing capacity whereby the conditions for microbial degradation are optimized. The aerobic degradation processes are in fact the most important for the bioremediation of contaminated soils and an improvement in the structure of the soil means easier oxygen diffusion.
In addition, Biosol contains a wide spectrum of organic and mineral nutrients, which is also conducive to micro-activity.
The supplemental product also contains a guaranteed radical generating activity. The radicals formed play an important role in the degradation of pollutants. The radicals look for an energetic balance and can therefore break covalent bonds of the pollutants. The pollutants are thus broken into smaller components that become more susceptible to further degradation.
The incorporation of the aggregate product, Biosol, into a contaminated soil can thus contribute in various ways, both physical, chemical and biological, to the soil gradually cleansing itself.
