Abstract
The rotating high-pressure pump transfers hydraulic energy of one productto another product or similar product. The pump can be used as ahydraulically driven pressure augmentation device and as a recuperatingdevice for hydraulic energy. The construction of the pump is simple; it hasa high volumetric and energy yield. Exceptionally high pressures can beobtained when used in combination with a low-pressure pump.<IMAGE>

Roterende hogedrukpomp
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Rotary high pressure pump
The invention relates to a pump which, due to its construction, is able to transfer the hydraulic energy from one product to another or the same product. Depending on the construction, the pump brings the product to a higher, equal or lower pressure. The invention therefore applies in all areas where gases or liquids need to be pumped
A very wide range of pumps are used in today's industrial environment.
Multistage centrifugal pumps have many advantages and are widely distributed. However, the efficiency of these types of pumps decreases greatly with increasing pressure development. Piston pumps do not have this drawback, but are not very reliable and require relatively much maintenance.
In reverse osmosis installations, the brine water is often dumped as waste. However, it still contains a lot of energy. By using so-called Pelton turbines, approximately 40% of this energy can be recovered. However, these turbines are quite expensive and are therefore not widely used in small RO systems.
See fig 1 On page 6 In the following explanation it is assumed that the magazine 3 rotates and the housings 1 and 7 are static. However, this is not a necessity.
Reference is made to the conclusions in R. 29 (3) on page 4 The pump consists of a magazine 3 mounted between two housings 1 and 7.
The plungers 4 are located in the magazine 3. The valve plates 5 are arranged on either side of the magazine 3.
See view BB The magazine 8 and shaft 3 rotate in bearings mounted in the static inlet housing 1 and outlet housing 7.
The static valve plates 6 are mounted on these housings 1 and 7.
See view AA The static valve plate 6 is divided into two arcuate sections. These sections need not necessarily be symmetrical. This distribution creates an inlet and outlet cycle for the plungers when rotating 360 of the magazine. However, multiple inlet and outlet cycles per revolution are also possible
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The following happens during the intake cycle
Product is supplied via port LPI. This causes the plunger 4 to be pushed to the left. If port LPO is pressureless, the liquid to the left of plunger 4 will flow out of the rotary high-pressure pump. Meanwhile, the magazine continues to run and the inlet cycle changes to the exhaust cycle.
During the exhaust cycle the following then happens: Liquid is supplied under pressure through port HPI. This fills the space in the cylinder chamber and the plunger 4 moves to the right. The pressure development can be influenced by using a differential or equal plunger surface.
The product located on the right side of the plunger is displaced through port HPO. During this pressing cycle, the magazine continues to run until the pump automatically returns to the inlet cycle. The advantage of the invention is that by combining the pump with a centrifugal pump, a high pressure can still be obtained with a high efficiency of the whole.
Another advantage is that the pump can be connected directly to the brine flow of an RO installation to pump fresh seawater into the RO system. Concerns the drawing on page 6 - fig. I

<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
In a classic setup as in fig3, you get about 34 liters of drinking water for every 100 liters of sea water that you put in it
pressurizes the system The rest, called brine, disappears back into the sea via a pressure control valve.
In order for this RO process to operate with a 34% yield, the seawater must be brought to a pressure of 70 bar. This pressure is very typical in seawater with a salt content of 40,000 PPM.
This means that in a classic system, 66% of the energy is lost over the pressure control valve.
If a rotating high-pressure pump were installed in this arrangement, more than 80% of this 66% can be recovered.
Such an arrangement is shown in fig2 on page 7 The pressurized brine line is connected to port HPI of the high pressure pump - see fig 1.
The pressureless brine fluid leaves the rotary high-pressure pump via port LPO.
Low pressure product water is connected to port LPI.
This water leaves the rotary high-pressure pump through port HPO.
If we now calculate with an efficiency of 80% in the rotary high-pressure pump, this means that by using this device in this configuration, only half of the energy will be sufficient to obtain the same yield.
Not only do people thus use considerably less energy, the installation costs of the installation will also be favorably influenced.
The high-pressure pump should only supply half the flow rate and can therefore be smaller than in a traditional setup.
Imagine a situation in which 100! / Min sea water would be pressurized. Power consumption - 13 kWh If this installation were to be equipped with a rotating high-pressure pump, it would only consume 6.5 kWh
Since these installations usually operate continuously - 8000 hours per year, the rotary high-pressure pump would save 6 5kWh x 8000 hours = 52,000 kW per year
